If you haven’t already, get yourself a set of food savers like this: They keep produce fresh for a lot longer! In addition to always having a stash of homemade freezer meals on hand, some things I do are: -Purée fruits that are on their last legs, freeze in ice cube trays, and use them in smoothies. Or cocktails! -Buy…

Eatingwell.com has a lot of weekly meal plans for different calorie goals or diet preferences (vegetarian, low carb, etc.) and a pretty good search function. I have found a lot of good meal ideas there, but have never followed a weekly plan.

I make a pot of pinto beans and tomatoes with seasonings. It’s enough for 4 or 5 quick meals throughout the week: tacos, taco salad, pintos with cheese, etc. A big roasted chicken breast gives me a couple of days of chicken salad, or a wrap with lots of vegetables, etc. I like to make poke-style bowls out of tuna or…

I took out a very light bag of recycling yesterday and threw out my back for no reason whatsoever. Now I’m incapacitated and irritated! 😂

I go through phases. I LOVE to cook but I also LOVE eating cheffy food. I live within walking distance of a tempting outdoor restaurant scene, so we do walk there a LOT, especially in the summer. I try to keep a balance though… if I’m going out, I eat salad or an egg scramble with lots of veggies for lunch and try to get…

I walk for peace and relaxation AND steps. Every day for me.

I kind of like the idea of committing to one perfect week. It's a challenge with an end, and you'll be able to pat yourself on the back at the end and say "I did it." You'll probably drop a couple of pounds, feel pretty good, and it will be good motivation to keep going. You can analyze your nutrition and see where you…

When I started this time (the day after last Thanksgiving), the only commitment I made was to log my food accurately. Some days were huge! HUGE. Then I got nerdy with the data and started making those "smart" swaps that were recommended earlier in this thread. I made it a hobby--like, how can I get more food for my…

If you are trying to maintain your current weight, eat at the maintenance calorie level. If you want to lose, eat less than your maintenance calorie level.

1200 per day is low, but if you’re not tall or you chose an aggressive rate of loss (or both!) MFP will give you a 1200 calorie per day goal. It’s doable, but not very pleasant to keep up! A .5 to 1 pound per week rate will probably give you a few more calories. Also, if you plan to do any exercise, you can log it and MFP…

Also regarding "Certified Organic"--A small local farmer who uses top quality seeds and no pesticides and does everything right probably won't be "Certified Organic" because they haven't jumped through the hoops required to get the official United States stamp.

I wonder if what your doctor meant is that cardio ALONE won’t do much for weight loss? Cardio does indeed burn calories, no matter your age. If you burn 250 calories per day, plus reduce calories by 250 per day, exercise and calorie reduction are equally contributing to a 1 pound loss per week. That’s a basic example, but…

I use the app to log my calories, sync with my Fitbit to get an idea what I burn from walking, and record my weight. I don’t really interact with friends or post on my wall. I like to read through what’s happening here on the forums and participate in discussions because it helps me think through some of my own ideas about…

Was this advice given as part of a recommendation to lose weight or for another health issue? The range of what people call “low carb” is huge. I get about 40 percent of my calories from carbs on average, or about 150 grams per day. I eat less pasta, rice, bread, potatoes, etc. I do this because it saves me some calories,…

This perfectly captures how I feel about it. When I was 30 pounds overweight (not obese), I didn’t feel awful or anything. I was moderately active, ate my veggies, all good at the doctor checkups. I had minor complaints that I chalked up to aging. But now? After losing just shy of that 30 pounds? I feel SO much better in…

@raiibrahimasif15 Losing 15 pounds in 3 months, even though you’ve stalled for two weeks, is really good. You have been doing something right. You could try tightening up your food log by weighing everything on a food scale if you don’t already. You could do a bit of research to get a more accurate estimate of your…

I don’t believe in the detox. OP didn’t say that either—she was calling it by its name, and it’s not new. I had a church cookbook from the 80s that had it. Many variations have ground turkey in it. I think the concept of detoxing with diet is bunk and would say so on a post promoting it. This doesn’t seem like that kind of…

I don’t have much of a sweet tooth, but sometimes I’ve gotta have it! I keep mini ice cream bars or sandwiches on hand. (Aldi has some that are really good!) Hot cocoa works and takes a little time to drink. If you can keep a bag of mini individually wrapped candy bars without going crazy, that’s a good option. Sometimes…

I have made this soup, and OP isn’t wrong… it’s commonly titled “Detox Cabbage Soup” around the web. I believe it’s a take on an old Scarsdale Diet staple (or one of those popular 70s diets). It’s pretty good, and it’s perfect to keep in the fridge for quick, low calorie meals.

I wanted to lose 20 pounds first and then reevaluate when I reached that goal. Now that I’m in my 50s, I think my face looks better (ahem—less wrinkly) if I’m at the higher end of my healthy range. I’m working on the next 10 pounds and I think that will be as low as I want to go. That should get me back into the jeans I…

Walking is a great way to start. You just need good sneakers. A step tracker (like a Fitbit) can help you stay motivated and will sync with MFP so you can see how many calories you burn. I listen to audiobooks while I walk, so it’s quite enjoyable! And there’s nobody paying attention to me, so I’m not self conscious. It’s…

Check out Eatingwell.com. They have lots of meal ideas for all kinds of dietary goals. It’s where I go when I want some new recipes to try.

I use MFP to log my calories, account for Fitbit calories, and keep track of nutrition. I have a spreadsheet where I calculate calories in/calories out/pounds lost (over several months) to give me a maintenance goal, and I change it in MFP weekly. I aim for 1750 under maintenance every week, but I count it a success if I…

I’ve always found that the best “jump start” is at the beginning when I’m really excited and focused and not bored or weary yet. I’ve always enjoyed a nice, motivating drop in the first couple of weeks just by buying healthier food I’m excited to eat, logging diligently, staying within my calories, and getting more steps…

If alcohol fits into your daily calories and you’re getting adequate nutrition from the rest of your calories and it’s that important to you to have 2-3 beers, go for it. But… What if you didn’t have those beers and lost an extra few pounds a month? Is it still important to you? What if you could have an ice cream sundae…

No, it won’t hinder your weight loss. You’ll lose about 2 pounds each week above what you’ve already set as your weight loss rate in MFP (1-2 pounds/week) which is VERY aggressive. It could hinder workout performance, make you cranky, make you tired, keep you in a state of constant hunger, make you more likely to binge,…

I can imagine that using this site would be cumbersome if technology isn’t your cup of tea. Like @sollyn23l2 said, it will get easier. Log with your best estimates. The foods in the database that have green checkmarks are “verified” and are usually a safe bet, though there are errors. People on this forum are pretty…

Do you mind sharing what other ingredients you used? I’ve just started experimenting with Indian curries and have only done variations on tikka masala. To keep my comment relevant to the thread, a tip: riced cauliflower goes very well as a base for saucy Asian and Indian dishes and saves a lot of calories. A very painless…

For Thai curry, there really is no substitution for the coconut milk. It’s what makes the dish! Anything else would change the flavor profile quite a bit. Not bad, but not the same. (Note: “lite” coconut milk is not really much better nutrition-wise.) It’s not like you’re going to make it every single day. It sounds like…
