  • Yaaaas, girl, have the cake. On my birthday I had cake. But I ALSO put in an hour on the treadmill in the morning. It's your birthday. I understand keeping a tight lid on calories and the fear of backsliding, but one slice of cake will not undo your progress. You need to balance life and have fun too!
  • I don't treat eating in public or at the office cafeteria any differently than eating at home in front of my husband. At work I generally bring a frozen meal and some snacks. I usually read the paper or something so I eat slower anyhow. No one says anything about my tiny frozen meal that I only eat 2/3rds of. At…
  • Nope. And I have no desire to see it either. They gave me pictures after my endoscopy and those kind of freaked me out. Like, hey yo, here are your organs. LOL!
  • Once I did the endoscopy, it took like, a week or two. I had no idea. The whole time I was like, well I can quit any time thinking I wouldn't really go through with it, even though I went through all the hoops! I got a call from the hospital letting me know, then a letter from BCBS a week or so later. Funny thing was that…
  • Girl you look fierce. Love the blue dress!
  • Sadly we can't control where the fat goes from and where it stays at. I lose from the top down. And also the left side of my body is less lumpy than the right. So I feel your pain. Eventually it will catch up!
  • So I think the takeaway here is that the cinnamon roll bar is not for you. I've not had issues with any Quest flavor I've tried including cinnamon roll. There are definitely some I like more than others though. Looking at the three flavors I have in my snack drawer (which is all healthy crap now, LOL), they ALL have…
  • I keep low carb, but then again I am a diabetic and carbs like pasta and bread and potatoes rocket my blood sugar up to hell. If I were not diabetic, I'm not sure if I would keep low carb. As it stands, I'm not a zealot about it. I occasionally have all those things. I've lost over 70 lbs, but mostly due to weighing and…
  • I'm a sleever. I chose it because I liked the idea of not having to reroute all the business down there. I also wasn't cool with malabsorption. And if I ever need to be scoped again, the path is clear. Unfortunately for me I have had hunger since about a month after my surgery, though, not the ravenous hunger I had before…
  • They call em bingo wings over here in the US too. Basically keep up on your overall cardio to shrink the fat all over. Then hit your triceps hard - push ups, kick backs, skull crushers, dips. You want to work the muscle so that it helps fill the skin with good definition. If you've had your wings for awhile, the skin may…
  • Team Quest here too. I don't count the carbs in them as bad because they are almost all from fiber, which you can subtract from the total carb count to get your net carbs. You need the fiber to keep things regular!
  • I took a week. I could have gone back earlier, but my job makes me crabby so I purposely took an extra two days. And my job, like yours is a desk job. I will say you may need to mind when you are eating at your job though. The first day I went back I had my one and only bout of nausea from being too long between my…
  • My local Mariano's (grocery chain in Chicago) sells isopure. So you might check to see if your grocery store has it. I feel like the isopure has an aftertaste. Or maybe not an aftertaste, but it leaves my mouth feeling all coated with a residue.
  • I would suggest sampling protein powders but not really committing to anything (via buying in bulk) because your tastes may change. I bought a bunch of one protein powder before my surgery and hate it now. Like, no amount of doctoring it up makes me like it. A lot of people like Unjury or Syntax Nectars, but again, order…
  • This is going to make me feel old, but I had the best results doing interval workouts using the Firm DVDs back in the early aughts. I lost 70lbs doing them. And I am not a small girl, but I lost weight very quickly doing those interval workouts. I don't do them now because I live in a 3rd floor condo. But man those…
  • I do not feel obligated to tell anyone just because they have noticed I've lost 60 lbs. I just say I am working out and eating better (and I am). Casual people don't need to know all my business. Hell, close family proved they didn't need to know either. My mother told her sister. I then heard from my cousin about the Lap…
  • Do you have a therapist? Maybe there is one in the Phoenix area that specializes in bariatric patients. As part of my Hospital's program, they have a psychologist (two actually) on staff for all the bariatric patients. They are always more than happy to make an appointment for us if we need to work through any issues.…
  • I can't blame WLS for my insomnia. I had it long before I ever got my surgery. I usually fall asleep fine but will wake up at like 2 or 3 am and not be able to fall back asleep. It's still occurs at the same frequency as it did pre-surgery.
  • I'm not, but if you'd like to sponsor my visa I will pack up my husband and cat and move! LOL!! :)
  • I have steak all the time. ALL. THE. TIME. You just need to wait until you are cleared for general diet and make sure to chew chew chew (or get a really tender cut like a filet mignon!) Also, a lot of people give up bread/pasta/rice because they are carb sensitive or they are hard to go down. I occasionally have pasta and…
  • 1 - I was required by BCBS (and also by my hospital) to do a 6 month program. 2 - I was not required to lose weight. I just could not gain weight. Having said that, the pre-op high protein low carb diet did shave about 18 lbs off of me. 3 - The first few days/weeks, you really aren't going to hit that protein goal. Tummy…
  • Chicago, the NW side of the city. Originally from NW Indiana though. :)
  • Maybe add in another protein shake? While I was told not to graze I am allowed snacks. That's like another 100 - 200 calories.
  • I've been doing squats with about 30 lbs in dumb bells, leg press on the leg press machine using 100 lbs and deadlifts with a 40 lb barbell. I don't do lunges because they hurt my knees real bad (and I have terrible balance so whenever I lunge I'm all wobbly). Can anyone suggest anything else to help a girl out? Should I…
  • 250. Only 4 more lbs. Then a size 20 clothes. I'd like to blast past 240, because back in 2002 I got down to that then moved and got the sads and gained it and some uninvited friends back.
  • I weigh and measure when I am at home. At work I take care of portion control by eating a lot of frozen meals. But it really is eye opening to find out what a serving size is. I got my scale on amazon. It was $20 I think. I keep it on my island for easy access.
  • I usually wake up at 6am and drink my protein shake. Then when I get to work at 8:30 I usually have a Greek yogurt. I consider that spaced out combo "breakfast". I don't like eggs and don't want to fall down the rabbit hole of delicious breakfast meats like bacon or sausage. Sometimes I will take a slice of cheese and roll…
  • Do you actually need a bonafide referral? Are you on an HMO? If you have a PPO you can just find a hematologist and make an appointment yourself. Referrals are such a pain in the *kitten*! I don't have an iron deficiency but I feel you, I was put on an Rx of vitamin D for 12 weeks and my vitamin D levels never did perk up.…
  • I was not interested in having malabsorption nor a plumbing reroute. So I had the sleeve. Pre-op I was a type II diabetic. Post-op I am no longer on any medications for diabetes.
  • I was only on pureed food for a little bit, but I was so happy to go on to soft solids! I was cleared for a general diet yesterday. Whee!
