  • I just finished reading the book, but have yet to apply the idea. The idea within the book is that you can achieve moderate and consistent weight loss if you just avoid fructose in your daily diet and limit its consumption to special events (e.g. your birthday) The book's view is fructose, unlike other forms of sugar such…
  • if they work for you and you feel safe with them on, then keep doing it. other alternative if you are really worried is to carry them in your hands and get an upper body workout while you walk. If you are really into it you can get a weighted vest. Some people as they loose weight just keep adding more to their vest. That…
  • this is why weight watchers is so successful. They know that once you stop tracking, the weight will come back and so will you ...
  • you could try P90X ....
  • sounds like you are on the baby food diet?
  • Weekly weigh-ins is what most books recommend. For me I find if I weigh in every morning it keeps me more focussed on the task at hand. In my view, weighing in more than once a day is a sign of being obsessive.
  • It totally depends on which paleo author you read. Some Paleo authors promote eating lean meats and staying away from processed meats, such as bacon.
  • I tried sesamin once and did not see any effect. Regarding coconut oil - isn't it very high in calories?
  • Habit come from doing of something you like - often. Find a form of exercise that makes you excited.
  • there are three variables on your diet - quantity, quality and accuracy. The last 2 often cause problems. Quality: Make sure you are eating good quality food (you know the natural stuff - not "diet" food) and get good quality exercise (you know the kind where you really sweat) Accuracy: Weigh your food and never trust the…
  • Online buddys are fine - but get a gym buddy - you need someone to get you to do that last rep and kick your butt when you slack off
  • I survived my first 24 hour intermittent fast yesterday. Skipping breakfast was no fun, but by morning tea I was doing o.k. and breezed through lunch By dinner I was starving. Dropped some weight off the scale this morning, as a result of the fast, but I think it is probably water weight. Has anyone here tried intermittent…
  • like everything in life - it depends ........ If you are insulin sensitive then you should probably eat less carbs than MFP suggests. If you are into endurance sports or work as a lumberjack then you may need more than MFP suggests. If you are concerned about water weight then cutting carbs will help you drop it quickly.…
  • I like the reference to the second article. It shows that dieters placed on a very low calorie diet their metabolic rate slowed by 23%. The body probably did this as some kind of defence mechanism to protect the fat stores incase of a famine. Just goes to show you what an amazing machine the human body is. No wonder every…
  • Which ones do you cook most often?
  • Has anyone tried the paleo blueprint cookbook? Which recipes do you like best?
  • I am not really a big fruit person, so some days I find my carbs are low and i dip into ketosis. I sometimes feel like I am on some kind of cyclic ketogenic diet by accident.
  • Liposuction ......
  • I wish everything was clear cut. How many carbs (and hence starchy carbs like potato) you should consume depends on more factors than just how it is prepared. If you are insulin resistant, then you should be consuming far less potato than your average Joe. If you are someone who is into lots of cardio, like accountant boi,…
  • thanks for the feedback - I might give them a swerve
  • eat more fat, nothing satiates you better than fat. yes I know it is counter intuitive, cause you are on a diet, but unless you get enough fat in day you will feel hungry all the time. I am not saying go over board on it, just enough to curb your cravings. Also be picky about the fat you eat - dont waste it on junk food.…
  • I have a theory that you can't loose fat and gain muscle at the same time. You can have one or the other just not both. If you focus on muscle gain exclusively expect your fat loss to stall. If you focus on fat loss exclusively then expect to loose some muscle in the process. It has something to do with the body trying to…
  • umm, but paleo is not an all meat life style. A large portion of it is about eating copious amounts of fresh veg and fruit. Paleo followers act more like a low carb zealots who eat fruit but shun starch and gluten. It is kind of like a vegetarian that eats eggs and dairy products, or that even funnier type of self…
  • all of these devices, such as HRMs, BodyBugs, the machine at the gym, the MFP calculator, etc are giving you nothing more than an estimate and each has its pros and cons. To get an accurate estimate you would need to live your life in one of those rooms that measure your calorie consumption from the oxygen levels. My…
  • If you want to track calories all day go for a bodymediafit / bodybug device. If you want to track just your exercise sessions get a heart rate monitor as it will allow you to track if you are in the "zone" a lot better.
  • I sometimes drink mine before my workout and sometimes I sip on it while I am working out. I do it so the protein is available as soon as possible to my body. Also if you get it out of the way as it is one less thing to worry about when you are trying to get out of the gym and home to see the wife & kids.
  • its not the coffee you got to worry about - it is the milk and sugar. A couple of cups of coffee a day with a dash of milk and a sugar is fine. A super sized grande latte with cream on top and an extra caramel shot is where the problems really begin.
  • Moderation is the key - milk is a food designed to turn baby calfs into cows.
  • Does anyone here do the workouts recommended in the blueprint? I have been doing some slow cardio and lifting heavy things for a while now and recently I just added sprints to my workouts once a week I must admit it feels great to just push yourself as fast as you can and feel the wind rush by. It gets a much harder once…
  • ok .. so the title of this thread is "paleo/primal truth revealed". Here is my take on the "truth" bit. Paleo / primal sells the idea that you too can have the body of a "caveman". All you have to do is eat the modern equivalent of what they ate and do the modern equivalent of the kind of activities they do. At the heart…
