Did you see the ABC Nightly News this evening?

There was a quick story about people with the most successful and permanent weight loss -some who have kept the weight off 10 years or more - and guess how they did it - counting calories, fat grams and carbs, (who'd a thunk it!) and never stopped tracking! One lady, in her seventies, writes everything down everyday! (Poor ol' gal, probably never heard of MFP!)
So MFP friends, you know what this means, don't you? It means the friends you meet here may be friends for life!
Never stop logging = permanent success!

I watched it and kept saying to myself, "wow, exactly what I have been doing for 21 months now!" I was really fascinated with the story and kept almost wondering if they were getting ready to mention MFP!0

Well, I am sold on the idea lol.0

Thanks for posting this. It's encouraging to hear that what we are doing not only works for now, but will continue to serve us well in the future if we will keep up the good habits that we are learning.0

I have been reading this information on EVERY health website I visit. SELF, Shape, Better Homes and Gardens... Any kind of somewhat fitness/health related magazine is talking about it as well as general news sites like Yahoo and MSN.
I think it's so stupid that these articles are all the rage now. Really, did it take people that long to realize that the good old fashioned way is really the only way to lose weight and keep it off for life? DUH!
I'm glad the information is out there to make this clear to the general public though. People look at me like I'm crazy in the grocery store when I immediately look at nutrition info for products. I stand there and read all the ingredients and nutrition facts, whereas other people mindless grab stuff off the shelves. If they only knew I wasn't crazy but practical with what I want to put into my body!0 -
Logging is my least favorite thing, even though MFP makes it more fun for me. I'm hoping that in a year or so I will be so used to it that I will be able to do it in my head. Is that possible?
Nah, who am I fooling? I'll be logging until I die :ohwell:0 -
Wait, you mean they DIDN'T have a degree in kinesiology and weren't personal trainers? HOw did they DO IT?!!?!
I don't know if I care to track forever but I think if you keep on top of your weight and track at the first sign of danger, that's probably a good idea.0 -
Did not see it but am unsurprised...it always breaks my heart when I see forum threads that ask "when will you stop logging?" and all the responses seem to take a negative tone...me? I've only been doing this for six months but I see no reason to EVER stop and that's a good thing! :bigsmile:0

Looking forward to spending the rest of my life with some of the great friends I have gotten to know on here. I have a pretty good MFP family.0

MFP gets advertised on a lot of the health sites and stuff in Australia0

AMEN! I now my key to success in maintaining my goal is to keep on logging!!!0
-
this is why weight watchers is so successful. They know that once you stop tracking, the weight will come back and so will you ...0

Isn't that crazy? It's all just plain math and science. Your outgo has to be more than your intake. No miracle diets, nothing fancy. Just do more than you eat!0

Yep, so true! I stopped logging for the summer and gained 8 lbs.
I look at my 1200 cal like a budget. I'm given 1200 cals a day and must decide how to spend them.0 -
My introduction to Nutrition was in a college class back in 1983. We had to log everything we consumed for a 24-hour period. Yes, ladies and gentlemen, this was waaaay before the internet was availble. We had to use the textbook as a source of restaurant calorie information. It was tedious!!!. We also logged every 15 minutes of our day to track our activity level. In the end we had to determine if we gained/lost/or remained the same for that 24-hour period.
It was a learning experience that stayed with me for life! I logged some back in the 80's and have done so on and off my entire life and when it wasn't written down, it was calculated in my head (a scary place to be). MFP makes it SOOOO much easier!0 -
Never stop logging = permanent success!
It makes sense, really... I never gain when I'm tracking my food. It's only when I get comfortable and stop tracking... then a year later, here I am again!! lol0 -
I have never knew I could ever have this support. I am not going anywhere for a while = permanent sucess! I hope my MFP friends dont go away either. I became too attached to them! They are amazing people!0
