  • Not all premade corn tortillas are gluten free, but I know that Mission brand are.
  • If you are on medication and are feeling even a little better but are still having hypo symptoms, you might consider switching to a different medication. Synthetic thyroid relieved some of my fatigue, but I began to experience mood swings, irritability, brain fog, and depression. When I told my doctor and asked to be put…
  • I haven't seen lettuce cups in the US, but if you like cabbage that might hold fillings better than lettuce. All I know is I've had burgers "protein style" at a few different restaurants and not enough lettuce has the potential to turn into a giant mess.
  • Very good to know. Luckily I am not planning on having kids anytime soon, but I appreciate the concern and will definitely look into it. Just in case there is anyone who is curious, Zonegran can be taken in place of Topamax if you experience severe side effects (as far as use for weight loss; Zonegran appears to be an…
  • I swallow mine and find that it works fine for me. I wake up at 6 to take it and then go back to bed for a bit to avoid all the absorption issues. That way I can eat breakfast like a normal person instead of trying to survive on a cup of coffee until lunch time.
  • Just because some of his patients didn't do well on Armour doesn't mean you won't. I was on Levothyroxine for about 9 months and just about went crazy (literally...I had horrible mood swings, was super irritable and generally not a fun person to be around). As soon as I switched to Armour I began to feel normal again. It's…
  • I took Phentermine and Topamax from June-July 2009 under the supervision of a specialist to lose weight before my wedding. I lost 25 lbs in about 2 months and was very happy with the results. The only side effects I experienced were dry mouth and a tingling sensation in my fingers from not drinking enough water. I was 23…
  • If you eliminate gluten from your diet you're basically cutting out bread. If you adopt a low-carb diet, there's a good chance you're eating wheat free at least. There are a lot of gluten-free alternatives to bread, pasta, etc. Celiac.com is a good site to figure out which foods contain gluten and which foods are safe to…
  • I am taking over the counter 25 mg of both DHEA and Pregnenolone. I have not been tested yet for adrenal issues because my doctor wants to get my thyroid levels balanced out first before we test for that. However, my dad also has Hashimoto's and adrenal issues and told me about those two supplements. I've been on them for…
  • Ezekiel bread is flourless, but there is still malt and barley in it, which means it still contains gluten. Food For Life (the company that makes Ezekiel bread) makes a gluten free bread made from rice flour that you can get at Trader Joe's. I've also heard that Udi's brand gluten free bread is pretty good and most…
  • I have had excema (or what I assumed was excema) on the back of my arms for years. I never saw a doctor for it, but no amount of cleansing, exfoliating, or moisturizing seemed to help. I switched from Levothyroxine to Armour and the bumps went away almost immediately. I assumed it was from the medication, but I also cut…
  • I was on Levothyroxine for 9 months also and felt like I was going absolutely crazy. My energy levels were up and I wasn't sleeping all day like I was before medication, but I started having mood swings, I was lashing out at my family for no reason, I would start crying over little unimportant things, and I was easily…
  • I switched from Levothyroxine to 30 mg Armour, cut out gluten and started taking Vitamin D & B6 (I've heard B12 is better for energy, but I found some B6 that I already had from a year or so ago when I was feeling nauseous every morning and couldn't figure out why). My new GP also has me on a 1200 calorie diet. The weight…
  • Have you joined the "hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism" group? There is a lot of trial and error involved in figuring out what works for you, but there are a lot of people in the group with great suggestions.
  • I also have Hashimoto's hypothyroidism. I was just switched from Levothyroxine to Armour and feel so much better. I cut out gluten a few weeks ago as well, and am finally starting to gradually lose weight after about a year of dieting, exercising, getting frustrated and giving up, and starting all over again. I also take D…
  • That is so great! I was on Levothyroxine for 9 months and while my energy levels were up from where they were before being diagnosed, I was so moody and would snap at everyone! I've always been a very laid back person, and all of a sudden I was an emotional wreck! It's such an odd feeling to know you're acting crazy but…
  • I know exactly how you feel! I just started Armour last week and I have already noticed a difference. I am alternating between 15 mg and 30 mg each day, and I notice that I'm a little tired on the 15 mg days, but I'm going to wait a little while to see if that improves before I ask to be on 30 mg every day. It is so nice…
  • After my most recent bloodwork (about 2 weeks ago) I asked my GP to switch me to Armour. He said that my T3 levels looked okay, and were almost on the high side so he didn't want to do that. However, I have not been able to lose any weight at all since starting on medication in April 2011. Does anyone know if your T3 can…
  • I started a gluten-free diet this past Saturday. It's only been 4 days, but I'm actually enjoying it. I find that it is actually easier to eat healthier since I can't snack on anything bready or carb-loaded. I haven't gone out to eat or anything yet though, so I'm sure it will get tougher, plus you have to read everything…
  • According to this formula I should be eating about 7 small meals a day for a total of 2300 calories. It definitely a scary concept to eat more than you're used to in order to lose weight. Has anyone else heard anything about this theory or have any experience with it?
  • I'm still pretty new to this as well, but here's what my experience has been like so far: I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's hypothyroidism in April 2011 and put on 25 mcg of Levothyroxine as well. I felt 10 times better, but I was still finding myself feeling tired and coming home from work and napping for 3 hours or so.…
  • I have been on Levothyroxine for about 8 months now. I started out at 25 mcg, but my dosage was upped to 50 mcg a couple months ago. My medication bottle actually has a tag that says not to ingest calcium for 4 hours. I swear my first bottle didn't have that tag on it though; I started out taking my pill with orange juice…
