  • I actually purchased a digital pocket scale to carry in my purse. Some people think that's going too far, but luckily I don't give a **** about weighing a banana or crackers or whatever at work. I don't use it at social gatherings or restaurants, but it's been incredibly helpful in measuring the exact "snackage" amounts…
  • If you can't find a food in the database (which is user-created and often incorrect), try adding the food manually using either the info on the label or the USDA website: https://ndb.nal.usda.gov/ndb/search/list
  • Welcome. There are lots of great resources to help you on your way. Check out the stickies (most helpful posts) at the top of the forum boards. Great, to-the-point info to help you cut through the BS and avoid many of the pitfalls people make when they first start out. Helped me a lot when I first logged on to MFP. Here…

  • Unfortunately there's no spot-reducing when it comes to weight loss, and no exercises you can do to target fat on specific areas of the body. Exercising those areas will certainly increase muscle underneath the fat, but not burn it off that area. The only way to get rid of that fat is to continue eating at a caloric…

  • Welcome! Here's a not-so-brief list to get you started. * Read the stickies (most helpful posts) at the top of the forums (really helped me hone in on what I was supposed to be doing, and realize how hard I was initially making it for myself):…
  • Second on the marine biologist. I think about it a lot.
  • Those granola bars were pretty good though...
  • Yep, body weight exercises. Push ups, yoga, etc. You could also use non-traditional weights, like books or cats.
  • If she won't listen to you, just be an example for her. You're losing weight the healthy way, and she knows how you're doing it, so maybe when she throws in the towel and gains weight again, she'll think, "Hey, my friend is looking pretty good these days. Maybe I should try it their way!"

  • ^^^ This. x100.
  • Onions! I make caramelized onions and this has made my life a lot easier.
  • This is a wonderful post! I definitely start to slip sometimes. I didn't feel like weighing my frozen breakfast sandwiches and just logged "1 sandwich" as the serving size. I decided I should tighten up this morning and threw one of those suckers on the scale... wayyyyy over the serving size listed (in grams). It was a…
  • This is just stupid. There are countless examples to illustrate why this is stupid. I can picture this phrase superimposed over a picture of a single tree at sunset... Sooooo deep. :|
  • Probably TMI, but I won't miss feeling like I always have to be on the bottom during sex.
  • I wouldn't say vacations "wreck" weight loss at all! Enjoy yourselves, don't worry about it too much, and get back on track after you're home. You'd have to eat thousands upon thousands of calories ABOVE your maintenance calories to gain several pounds over a week's time. Read this thread and don't worry about destroying…
  • ^^^ This. This diet makes me sad just reading it. I want to hug OP and sneak some granola bars and string cheeses into his pocket mid-embrace. ETA: I love granola bars and string cheese, so I'm assuming everyone else on earth loves them too?
  • When I was watching my carbs a while back, I found Moon Cheese. It's basically freeze-dried cheese hunks, but they are really tasty! Kind of pricey IMO, but if you're missing crunchy snacks (which I did while I was low carbing it), they're awesome! They sell them at most grocery stores I think, and on Amazon too.
  • IF works because it helps people stay under their maintenance calories. Personally, if I wait until my stomach is really rumbling to eat, I'd eat a whole pizza, then a burger, then another pizza, etc. My ability to make better choices would take a huge hit!
  • @kimny72 Just posted this the other day, and it's very helpful! https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10754528/how-to-control-your-appetite
  • I don't think those fancy body fat % scales are actually very accurate. I use a basic "this is what you weigh" digital scale I got for $11 on Amazon and I'm happy with it. Weight fluctuates constantly, so I don't think there's a need to pinpoint your exact weight down to the micro-gram.
