  • Hi Bruce: I drink seltzer water to up my water intake. For some reason the bubbles really help me. Drinking so much regular water begins to feel heavy syrup going down to me. Anyway, just sharing my little trick. All my best, Celeste.

  • I was dx'd in May13, w/ an A1C of 10. I went on Metformin 500 2x a day and sent to a Nutritionist who upped my dosage to 850mgs 2x a day. She saw that I had a good handle on my menu choices. When that didn't work, I upped my dosage to 850mgs 3x a day, and when that didn't work, I upped my dosage to 1000-mgs 3x a day.…
  • Bless your heart. Tomorrow is another day...a fresh start with your new number in hand, no matter what it is. Please keep me posted and add me as a friend if you like. None of this is easy, but it can be less difficult when you have people who understand what you're going through, to lean on when you need it and offer a…
  • Chia Seed Apple Pie! I boil down 4-large chunked-up apples in water until cooked. Add 3-T of Chia Seeds, Stevia to taste (@ 2-t) and 1T vanilla extract. If you have one of those pans that make filled sandwiches, use whole wheat bread with a brush of butter in the trays. Just a bit over 100-calories each and good for you!
  • I'm so dang proud of you!!!
  • Ya, it doesn't work for me. I'm in the process of going vegan for a while to do what I can to stay off medication. I wish you the best.
  • My nutritionist says that's normal: fasting glucose is always higher. You'd think it'd be the other way around, but it's not. Celeste
  • When I first got diagnosed, I wanted a CGM and still do. I priced them out and they run @$400. It just made so much sense to me for as accurate as possible picture of how my body copes with fasting and food. I asked my doc for one and was told insurance wouldn't cover it...only for T1's. Here are some great tutorials from…
  • Bless your heart. 500mg of Met 2x a day is the standard starting dosage. No wonder your body is rebelling! I'm new to this too...3-months since diagnosis. My doc wasn't real helpful either. She passed me off to a ditsy nutritionist who is the one helping me adjust my met dosage. I've come to the conclusion that no one is…
  • I found out a week less than 3-months ago. You're not alone. Much to my surprise, I've actually enjoyed monitoring the foods I eat and how they effect my body. I'm finally getting dialed in to the right dosages of meds for me. Come to find out, it's fasting and certain fruits that screw me up the worst, That has been the…
  • I think Bettyboop has a hugely valid point. Combinations of foods are appearing to me to play a role in me too. I really thought I'd resent testing frequently when I was first diagnosed, but I'm finding out they're the biggest tool in battling diabetes.
  • Great comments, everyone! I'm shocked to read these foods and their effects. I haven't tested pasta yet. Can't wait now that you mentioned it, Miss J! You can't even eat raw cukes or carrots, Gearjammer?
  • Why not buy a cheap meter and some strips to test your blood sugar and find out for sure how fructose and glucose affect you specifically?
  • With all due respects, that math applies in a perfect world. Unfortunately, that world doesn't exist for many of us and the science is still virtually unknown. Case in point: http://www.ted.com/talks/peter_attia_what_if_we_re_wrong_about_diabetes.html
  • I'm surprised to see such different results from everyone. This is all such a learning experience. Mom, you might be right. I made Chickpea cookies that day and had to pull out the honey with a spoon from the tub. I'll bet that was it. A couple nights later I ate pineapple and the next night I ate cantaloupe as my only…
  • Thanks for your warm and kind comment, Goddess. It is my pleasure to meet you. Thank you for taking the time to try and help me understand what's happening. I had an English muffin with my breakfast after I wrote this post, and was back to what is low for me 2-hours later. For me, it's either the fasting, or the fruit.…
  • That's wonderful results!!! Proud of you!!!
  • I get 14-full mini-cupcake/candy cups from one batch. Please tell me how you like them.
  • Oh Hookilau, now I have more research to do on additional supplements! Thanks for sharing what's working for you. Before this dx, I was a bread freak, Margaret. Before dx, I was taking Vitamin D, Chromium Picolinate (kidney support) and a Multi-vitamin daily. When I read about the Tri-Chromium, Zinc and CoQ10, I knew I had…
  • Don't you dare get discouraged, Margaret! I'm right there with you experiencing the same thing. We'll get there!!!
  • Coconut oil fat bombs really take the edge off and there are huge benefits with coconut oil for diabetics. Google and you'll see. My favorite are Salted Raisin Fat Bombs 1-C Coconut oil 1-Square Bittersweet Baking Chocolate Melt in microwave 30-seconds Use paper candy cups and fill with 8-raisins. Pour chocolate mixture…
  • There are 3 things on the body that keep growing as we age: ears, nose and feet!
  • I have already shared it once since viewing it yesterday. Brilliant hypothesis and it gave me hope. Thank you for posting.
  • My nutritionist wants me to stay at 30-grams for three meals per day. We'll see if she's on track or not. In one week I've gained 3-lbs. Not cool.
  • @ Big Guy: please check out the benefits for diabetics on these babies!
  • Maybe they don't have your meds dialed-in quite right yet. If this continues, please call your health care provider this coming week to let them know!
  • I make fat bombs with coconut oil, nuts, lemon, cream cheese, cocoa, unsweetened chocolate, nut butters, stevia (if it needs it) and occasionally a couple raisins. Here's where I found out about them. The only thing different I do is put them in paper candy cups. Quick, easy and they've really helped me stay on track.…
  • Right on!!!
  • I just looked at your food diary. One itty bitty hint I have is to make your own salad dressing from Greek Yogurt and Ranch Mix. I buy Frontier Herb Ranch mix when I don't make it myself. It's good for you and totally guilt-free. Pack baby carrots for the day and dip away! I am staying away from food in boxes, carbs and…
