Either log or watch the scale. I stopped doing both and ended up 21lb back on.

Through the danger time on a Saturday evening. Day 5. This is an achievement for me to not drink Fri & Sat. Not particularly missing it and enjoying the gains of better exercise. Hoping to see a positive change on the scales next week too. Onto day 6!
-
Mostly used to portion sizes now, however, today 60g of cooked rice looked tiny! Surprised how filling it was in the end.

I woke up with a totally clear head this morning & had a long run. I read somewhere that with running, you shouldn’t drink the day before a long run or the day you’ve completed it. This is really helping me (was a bit doubtful of the benefit) as two long runs in since alcohol free & there is a fairly big difference! Day 5…

I am lighter than I was pre-pregnancy. I put on quite a bit with my second & took a good hard look. Surprised myself by getting down to 135lbs. I’ve put some back on (why I’m back here!), my bust is smaller, waist narrower, hips slightly wider, but overall I’m lighter than before. All depends where you’re starting from &…

I’m so pleased, have got over the Friday evening. My first dry Friday in months! Hope I can manage Saturday too, but another day done :)
-
Day 4 for me, Friday. I don’t feel like having a glass of wine, but my husband will open a bottle. Determined to stay strong, have a long half marathon training run tomorrow so will focus on that.
-
Thank you! That’s great. Final question (promise!) what’s your view on alcohol? I’m having a couple of weeks with none, but would you carry that on while getting to goal? I enjoy it however it’s the main reason I’ve got 15lb to lose!
-
Hopefully. It’s a challenge. Training is going well, heavier than I should be. Have cut alcohol out this week, have previously trained with the odd few glasses. Want to see if it makes a difference on time & weight loss.
-
Day 3 here & I’m feeling good, not even tempted tonight. Friday may be a different story. Each day as it comes
-
I’m finding I need to wee more?! I’d always drunk loads of water in the day, 2liters or so, so no idea why this is happening!
-
Definitely consider reading that naked mind book. I read it yesterday and I’m surprised how different I feel about drinks today. Not at all sure what has changed but I think this will truly assist drinking less (or nothing!) as time goes on. I’m almost interested to see how I feel tomorrow about Friday/Saturday where I’d…

Thanks.. I’m slightly over, 25.7. I definitely want to get below 25, I wondered whether your advice would be to aim for 23 or so? I’m 150lb at 5ft 4, aiming for 135, however, that’s a number I’ve plucked out.
-
I think I’ll feel same tomorrow. Day 3 is always hard on anything new? Good luck tonight!
-
I’ve been reading the Naked Mind tonight. It is really eye opening and thought provoking. She definitely focuses on what you gain, rather than lose by giving up completely. It also explores how far you can be down the addiction route without knowing it. For me, right now, I’m still wanting to cut back rather than stop, but…

Day 2 for me. Feels like I’ve got through when I’d be most likely to have a glass when cooking dinner. I usually do Mon-thurs clear & then have wine Fri-Sun. My aim this month is to be dry apart from Fri & Sat & then keep to just a couple. I’ll read naked mind too, it sounds v interesting.

Could you suggest an alternative ‘Holiday Party’? A spa morning or similar? You’d both enjoy but no temptation on drink.
-
I think that’s the nail on the head, the first few weeks are hard. It’s getting used to lower calories, so you can still enjoy those foods. I had a week or so off for Christmas and the last couple of days I feel hungry, but it’s that readjustment to not overeating. It definitely gets easier and once you see the results…

It’s shocking and eye opening. 25g of cheese looked tiny at first. Like others say use a food scale, it’s surprising how much of other foods you can eat (esp veg, salad, fruit). I find it really helpful to plan meals out using the restaurant website nutritional info now too.
-
I’ve started daily weighing using happy scale app. I can tell with clothes too. For me daily accountability means less stress compared with skipping a week or two weigh in... a week or two became 18 months of skipping & putting 21lb back on!
-
I’d also add well done for posting your photo, not sure I’m brave enough to do that! You can def do this without worrying about the BF %
-
Just keep focused on what you’re doing. Am similar to you, 5ft4, 153lbs and want to get to 135lb. What’s your goal? I think focusing on that rather than the BF will work for, it’ll come down as you lose.
-
Thanks for offering! What’s your recommendation on setting an ultimate goal??BMI is such a wide bracket, would be interested to know where you’d recommend aiming for. Thanks!
-
Day one down for me. Avoided any temptation with an early night. My aim is to cut back, but not abstain totally. I am building it into my calories, but really aiming for just a couple of drinks on Friday & Saturday.
-
Fab! Thank you, I’ll add that one, is a great idea speed day!
-
Good idea on the speed day. Never tried that before... so you’d run 3x 3 milers at half marathon pace or faster?
-
Wow 100miler sounds amazing! Am aiming 1hr 50. I’ll make sure I can talk and run on the easy runs. Yeah those 15lb are my own fault for taking eye off tracking & not weighing myself. Lesson learned!
-
I’d like to join too please.. 5lb a month gets me to goal too!
-
I’m 5ft4 and on 1200 too. I lost 56lb a few years back on 1200, I did eat back 75% exercise cals. I got out of habit of tracking & put back on 21lb.. restarted at end November (1200 again) and have dropped 6lb so far. I don’t have that much to lose (15lb now). It’s definitely manageable, I really plan ahead and make sure I…

Definitely see your doctor first. My husband has this and one disc was compressing the spinal cord in his neck. He had surgery to remove that one. He now works with a personal trainer and physio to make sure he does the right exercise to support the lower bulging discs which cause back pain and associated lower limb…
