  • I doubt it will happen under a week. Note that usually ketone levels will be lower in the mornings. I think the best way to tell if you're adapted is to test your glucose levels fasting and throughout the day, it should be under 78 mg or so in the morning and remain stable throughout the day. Ie no wild swings. Most likely…
  • The problem is that some food items (especially from outside the U.S. ) have net carbs already deducted. So the problem is more complex than first appears. It's a shame there's not a checkbox whereby food database items can be flagged as being in Net a Carbs to start with. Otherwise it's a case of Garbage in/Garbage out.…
  • Could you give an example?

  • I would stick to the lower end of the range but make sure you're having at least 30g of protein with each meal, mand never less than 20. This will ensure protein synthesis gets turned on. Having all your protein in one meal of the day is a bad strategy
  • Macros as far as percentages are less important than actual amounts in grams, are you still tracking carefully? Watching your calorie intake? Etc. also the scales often reflect water weight, are you tracking other things like waist, etc.?

  • Same thing was happening to me.... after a while started getting lots of hypothyroidism symptoms without realising what they were, then mineral deficiencies, and to add injury to insult, stopped losing weight as well as my metabolism came to a halt. So not only isn't it worth it, it doesn't work... perhaps you'll lose…
  • I always find my ketones lower in the morning, anywhere between 1.5 and 2.5. By evening they usually go up to 3.5 - 4.5. I'm not sure when the best time is to measure them, but I do mine first thing in the morning assuming it can only get better from then on, but perhaps everyone's body reacts differently.
  • I believe very person is different so it's a matter of finding what is best for your own body, everyone has their own tolerance and lifestyle. Also, rather than focus of percentages, look at grams, if it's under 50 a day of carbs then that should enough to keep you in ketosis. Then work out grams of protein and fill the…
  • As an Italian, I just can't get my head around it. At best, I can get away with some coconut cream in my espresso. It that's as far as I'm willing to take it!
  • We make a broth every weekend and store it in containers to use throughout the week. Usually beef, but sometimes lamb broth. It's great if you can throw a trotter or hoof, or knuckle bones in there as well, they're full of gelatin, cartilage, collagen and other benefitial bits. Doing so makes it a bit thicker in the fridge…
  • I'm glad you researched the topic and of course everyone must do what they feel is best for their own bodies. As for ketones being toxic, this is only the case in high levels of ketones, way above what is achieved on this diet, and is known as keto acidosis. To compare the two is like comparing a diabetic with high blood…
  • Dane, when you say equal do you mean gram wise or calorie wise? Remember that fats have over double the caloric density of carbs and protein. I find it useful, if not essential, to go to your goal settings and modify them using the custom option to match your percentages and calorie limits, if you haven't done so already…
  • Ha! I know the feeling of the reaction people have when they see what you eat. It really goes against the grain (pun intended) of current dietary advice. It certainly requires a leap of faith to go on this diet, but I believe the evidence is mounting for it. I've also just changed to an 80/15/5 ratio and dropped my…
  • I think the idea that saturated fats are not healthy is being seriously challenged these days. Humans were living and surviving in good health from eating saturated fats long before heart disease became a problem, and long before having "high cholesterol" was even considered a problem. I urge you to look up a presentation…
  • My profile is very similar to yours apart from the gall bladder (although I was wrongly diagnosed with that at one point also). After years of trying different diets, which most I found difficult, I find this one increadibly easy, tasty, satiating, and have also seen the best results out of all. I'm now back to the weight…
  • I agree, the keto diet is great and even should I transition to something a little more flexible down the track, I don't ever forsee carbs being a huge part of my diet, I've seen too many health benefits already from their exclusion to think about going back to that type of diet again.
  • BTW I don't do any weight training however there are plenty of bodybuilder forums that discuss training on this diet, you could check but if I remember what I have read then they recommend some carb intake after training however it needs a bit of research I think.
  • I'm also following a keto diet, 75/20/5 fat/protein/carb ratio. I've only been on it a couple of weeks but have seen much benefit. I was on a fairly low carb regime before that, but am now more careful about not overdoing either my carbs or protein. My motivation is slightly different than losing weight (not that I can't…
  • It's a lethal combination :)
  • r_tuck pretty much hit the nail on the head - it's the sugar you're probably addicted to, not the chocolate. Chocolate itself is pretty healthy. Well, the cocao side of things anyway. Once you start adding sugar and other products, then it goes downhill pretty quickly. If you do like chocolate, then I suggest sticking to…
  • Hi Tony, I've been on a ketogenic diet for the last few weeks, and seen some impressive results already. I didn't find the transition too hard as I was already on a fairly low carb diet to begin with for a couple of months prior. The form of diet I'm following is 75/20/5 ratio fats/protein/carbs, with a calorie deficit to…
