  • Yes, you have to build muscle, and it can be achieved by following the kind of routine that bodybuilders follow; You should allow a lot of protein to your diet, sugars not from fruits at the minimum and keep the carbs up only for the days where you do high intensity exercise. Also, is better to have smaller meals, avoid…
  • Occasionally, my fiber intake reaches > 90g and I have never experienced any problems. I guess the answer is no.
  • Carbs are not created equal..there are simple and complex carbs. Complex carbs are considred the good carbs, they are found in fresh fruits as well as in lentils, whole grain pasta (to a lesser extent). Simple carbs (regular white pasta, etc.) are considered the not so good carbs. MFP does not make that distinction. If…
  • This discussion periodically reappears in MFP. Not all sugars are created equal, sugar from fruits are fructose, which is good (low glycemic index). Sugars from processed foods (and most, not all cereals) are glucose. Both are counted the same by MFP but their effect is quite different. The sugar from processed foods is…
  • It seems you reached a plateau..when you are not that far from your ideal weight it gets more difficult... I would say that if you lower your calorie intake while keeping sugars and fats on the low side, you will start loosing weight. Another point I would say is that it is difficult to keep your calorie below the limit if…
  • Hmmm, a fellow Iowan here at MFP...I think it is the first time it happens.. I can only talk about my experience. I am at 148 and I stand 5 8 1/2 and my calorie goal for MFP is 1710. I exercise 3 time a week, where I burn like 900 cals. I eat between 500-700 of them. In these conditions, I loose about 1/2 a pound per week.…
  • It is not a problem, but you should watch that this is not at the expense of other important nutrients, such as carbs (complex carbs preferably) as you will feel tired. High on proteins is very good if you are exercising as it builds muscle. Regardless, if you are under calorie goal, you will lose weight.
  • I have been here for 1 month and a 1/2 and loved it!. It takes quite a lot of discipline to log everything ( and I mean everything) every single day, but if you do it (and so far, I have been able to) it is amazing what you learn about your body.
  • 1) I run from home. I use the GPS on my Android to keep track of my mileage. I used to drive with the car and count the miles before that. 2) It is not that bad, it is easier on the body but much harder on the mind.. 3) I listen to music, think about different things, etc,,,once you get the hang of it, it is a relaxing…
  • It does not matter at all. Professional bodybuilders always recommend to do your workouts in the morning, but this is because they try to eat as few as possible (or not eat at all) many hours before you go to sleep. This is because in these cases, your body is fasting while you sleep and you are more efficient at building…
  • First of all, sugar us not created equal. If your sugar comes from fruits, do not worry if it goes over. If the sugar comes from processed foods, sodas, etc..you will not gain weight anyway, but if your level of physical activity is low, some of this sugar will be converted into fat, slowing down your progress...
  • Amazing!!! you look so goood! and what is more important, I am sure you feel so much healthier and full of energy! Now for the last 20 pounds: IT IS WORTH IT!
  • Thanks, I will try it
  • You should not worry about that. The bad sugar is the one that comes from processed foods. The sugars from fruits, fructose, are OK. This is something that MFP could improve, distinguishing between the good sugars and bad sugars. My recommendation is that provide you stay away from sugars in processed foods, bottled…
  • It seems you managed to grab everybody attention...well here I go again. As said, you definitely look great now and at 150 and some weight training you will be absolutely amazing (as someone pointed out..). I have to say that this 10 extra pounds are the hardest...because you will also need to eat accordingly (more…
  • I guess you are more interested in guys opinions..definitely, .you look great now! If you can get it down to 150, then you will be amazing! (my sincere opinion, as you asked, the truth and nothing but the truth..)
  • Great post, I agree with almost everything!
  • Hi, Weight loss is just a math problem. You need to ingest less calories than you spent. I guarantee that if you are disciplined to enter everything you eat everyday, you will be able to keep correcting your diet until you find one that helps you keep the weight you want. and you will see results immediately. MFP is…
  • I agree with asteroidvsmars. I love MFP but it is too focused on calories., there are other nutritional parameters that would be nice to track..the sugars in fruits (fructose) are waaay healthier that the ones in processed food but are counted the same. BTW, there is also a similar problem with carbs, as there is no…
