I had gastric bypass surgery on 11/18/14. I'm doing great. Be sure to have the surgery done at a Center for Excellence. There are, of course, risks as with any surgery. I had mine at St. Luke's Hospital in Allentown, PA. Their statistics are high compared to the national average. I at one time was very opposed to weight…

I chuckled at the comment "watch them chow down mightily on three courses"...haven't you found though that most people really don't chew and enjoy their food? The need for bariatric patients to chew their food so thoroughly has really made me aware of how fast and gluttoneously a lot of people eat.

Keep moving forward, girl! We're in similar boats. :-)

Statistics are that 80% of people who have wls are successful.

I agree that if you are able to do it on your own successfully, then by all means don't have the surgery. I lost a lot of weight many times then gained it back. I was fortunate to have met my out of pocket and only had to pay about $400 toward anything having to do with the surgery. And, I have a lot of sick time. I was…

So, how do we start an actual group? I had gastric bypass surgery on 11/18/14.

As for the "diet" the surgeon puts you on, that may or may not be true depending on your situation. Some insurance companies do require a period of waiting and/or dieting before the procedure. Mine did not. One thing I learned that surprised me is the reason for needing to lose weight before the surgery. I thought it was…

Shame on you for making such an asinine statement without, obviously, having done any research into the procedure.

I had gastric bypass surgery on 11/18/14. I'm doing great. As for the comment about complications from wls can be fatal...be sure to have the surgery done at a Center for Excellence. And, fatalities are rare today. There are, of course, risks as with any surgery. I had mine at St. Luke's Hospital in Allentown, PA. Their…

Hi there. I just had my surgery on 11/18. I had to do the liquid diet for 6 days to get down to the pre-surgery weight I needed to be. I used Chike meal replacement shakes. They're [almost] really good. I'd love to communicate with other bariatric patients as I know this journey will not be easy, but will be well worth it.

June Cleaver for sure. She deserves a medal for having to parent the Beaver and Wally! Do you listen to Family Life Network...they were doing the better TV mom contest all week...Carol Brady vs. Weezy Jefferson is one I remember.

5' here. Goal is 125 max. I try not to think of that number though because it's way too overwhelming at this point!

I am compelled to comment (and perhaps rant a bit). I am personally acquainted with at least 5 people who've had gastric bypass surgery and one who had the lap band one. Some of the GBS people did great at first. One kept it up because she drastically changed her eating habits and became an avid cyclist. Most of them…

I am doing a program through a local hospital which involves separate monthly meetings with a nutritionist, a behavior therapist, and an exercise physiologist. Both the nutritionist and exercise physiologist have told me to NOT add calories back for physical activity at this time because of how much weight I need to lose…

OK, I don't wear any old shirt I pull off the floor, but makeup? At the gym? While I'm working out and sweating?! I don't think so. But then, I'm comfortable going without makeup sometimes when I'm not at the gym. Different strokes...
