  • Hello everyone. Not sure how this exactly works, but trying new things. I’m hoping to lose the pounds and get back in shape. Winter here, so only the gym for now. Need to drop some pounds so I can not suffer so much dirt biking. At 57, it’s not exactly an old person sport lol. Hope everyone gets to their goal.

  • I have been regularly donating plasma for almost 3 years. When the clinic isn’t busy, I’m in and out in about an hour. Definitely drink a lot of water the day before and day of donating. You also have to eat clean that day....no greasy foods. I had some troubles here and there with hitting the veins. Several bruisings,…
  • I turn 54 this coming March. In my early 40’s I decided I wasn’t going to get old lol. Had maintained a decent activity level, but could tell things were changing. Took on P90x and Insanity...then weight lifting. At 43 I started dirt biking....what a steep learning curve there...still going even though it’s tough. My first…
  • Add me. On a weight loss journey myself
  • I have had it several times. The first time was a bit scary. It’s weird being “awake” in your dream. I have been able to wake myself up. I somehow just relax and concentrate to make a quick movement. Works every time
  • Almost 52, but still feel 18...if I didn’t have some aches and pains lol. It’s only a number!
  • Just keep adding weight to the bar. Even if it’s only 5 lbs...over time it adds up and you will get stronger. Check out stronglifts 5x5.
  • Starting weight 200.5
  • I am going to try. Count me in
  • Lifting is an investment in you. There is so much info on this site and the web to do whatever you desire. Figure out what your goals are and spend some time researching how to achieve them. Does not matter if you go to a gym and pay a monthly fee or spend the money upfront and make your own gym. What matters is spending…
  • Not everyone can do ATG. Have someone watch or take a vid. You should stop at the bottom where your butt is rounding under (butt wink). Otherwise you take the chance of really messing up your back. Lots of info on the web about this
  • I agree with buying quality equipment, but you don't have to be the one paying the full price. Just do a lot of research on whats good. Then keep checking craigslist or local ads. I paid less than 50 cents per pound for all my dumbbells and olympic wts. The cable machine I purchased sold new for $1800 and I picked it up…
  • I used to go to our local high school wt room but the school made some changes and we could not use it anymore. I decided to get my own equipment. I lifted with a friend, so we did this together. It took about 6 months of searching craigslist, but for 2 grand we have a squat rack, full set of dumbbells (8-85) with racks,…
  • Look up Stronglifts 5x5. Good starter program for legs. You could always do 3x5 on the other upper body lifts to save some time until you are happy with your lower body.

  • I got kicked out of our local high school wt room. The old "lie ability" issue. Decided then to make my own wt room. Got on craigslist and looked for the important stuff first. I now have a squat rack, bench, full set of dumbbells, cable machine, calf machine, lots of plates and bars etc. Got about 2000 into it. Some would…
  • Narrowing your grip will give you a bit more strength. Starting at 45 may be a bit more than you should have started. Check to see if you can get a 35 or lighter bar and move up from there. Mark Rippetoe has some great vids on this move. The bar ends at the back of the head rather than the front. It makes the move a bit…
  • Believe me it will not happen overnite. Just start a lifting program. Pick something simple that works the entire body. You can always stop, lower the weights, eat less etc. once you have achieved the results you want. Remember, genetics plays an important too.
  • Now that is something I would like to see. Not that I don't believe you, but that is impressive. Must be way more than twice your bodywt. Have you been lifing for years??? Again, impressive.
  • Yes, one plate is 135. I have not seen her do it yet, but I bet those 45's make her seem really small. Most kids want to mimic what mom or dad do. So, if you set good examples, hopefully they will follow. You really never know once those teen yrs come.
  • I am always surprised at how strong kids are with their own bodyweight. That and how flexible they are. Kids have the perfect squat form. Too bad old age sets in.
  • She will turn 16 in Sept. She started around 14 maybe a little earlier. I have seen that vid of the 13 yr old girl benching 240. There was quite the discussion on here about it. I sometimes get the "she is too young" advice, but have always thought that with good form and supervision, kids will do well with strength…
  • That's great that you downloaded the stronglifts program. You may also want to check out Starting Strength too. The next step is to read, read and read some more. Do a lot of research on how to lift properly. Whatever you do, DONT lift heavy right away. There will be plenty of time to lift heavy. Start light and progress a…
