  • Shirataki noodles with chopped spinach & pesto. They were actually AMAZINGly delicious. Best food I've ever found for the calories. And maple-brown sugar oatmeal for dessert. Doesn't save any calories over a candy bar but it doesn't spike my blood sugar nearly so much.
  • I definitely have to force myself to drink water, since it's easy for me to get so busy at work I forget. It's helpful in the evenings, though, when my stomach wants something to do while I"m watching TV but I'm not actually hungry.
  • Mashed potatoes freeze & reheat really well. I always keep marinated meat in my freezer so I can just defrost it & toss it in a pan quickly. Takes about 10 minutes to cook. If I pre-cook meat before I freeze it, then it tends to get tough reheated. The exception to that is meatballs, since they taste great in spaghetti…
  • Coffee Raw sugar Spices/sauces Rice chex A few cans of soup/chili Baby carrots Eggs Frozen meat (usually a steak & some chicken) Cilantro (but I feed most of it to my rabbit, so not sure that counts as human food!) Frozen Udi's bread Butter I'd like to start having more healthy, but lasting staples around the house so…
  • If she was just barely in the "obesity" range on the BMI scale & came with great recommendations, then I wouldn't think twice about being her patient. That level of obesity can be caused by confounding factors like hormonal imbalances while still maintaining a healthy lifestyle. If she was hundreds of pounds overweight,…
  • I very much agree with this. I also think that labeling something as forbidden makes it more desirable, so allowing yourself to have a bit of treat food is OK. If you don't let yourself eat any of that, you'll just crave it more. Also, you're eating in a calorie deficit to lose weight, which means that of course your body…
  • Big thumbs up! (And a hint: treat yourself to some nice compression tights for your next run & your husband will be absolutely drooling over your legs! )
  • Sure, you can eat too many veggies. You can eat too much of anything. I'd definitely start cooking your vegetables to make them more digestible. There are plenty of successful vegan runners, BUT you need to figure out how to eat enough fuel to satisfy your body. Nuts, chia seeds, sweet potatoes, coconut meat, there are…
  • Have you considered meeting with the nutritionist again? I couldn't tell from your post if she just gave you a plan to execute or if you're routinely meeting for feedback. Has your doctor run bloodwork somewhat recently checking your hormones are doing what they should? Women with PCOS, hypothyroid, hyperadrenocorticism,…
  • Great advice! I'd also add that losing 35 pounds in 70 days indicates that you're at a significant calorie deficit. I'm not surprised at all that you're feeling dizzy & weak. And, since you're trying to lose >50 pounds, don't forget that your skin is going to have more trouble contracting back down if you lose too quickly.…
  • Because they need to. If my boss would fire me for gaining weight, you'd bet your bottom dollar that I'd be obsessively dieting! There are all sorts of challenges to reaching our dreams. I don't need to lose weight to reach my dream job, but I do pull 24-36 hour shifts when needed. How? Because I need to. Being sleep…
  • I like a small dark chocolate bar & a bottle of water (with a squeeze of citrus if I filled it at home).
  • What is your current BMI? Your post reads like that of someone who has hit a normal body weight and is trying to lose more weight to become extra thin. Your body will be resistant to shed those pounds because some fat is necessary for optimal function. I'd pick up a cheap food scale & start weighing your food if you're not…
  • I lose weight on 2,000 calories/day. Everyone has a different metabolism, affected by their lifestyle, their exercise routine, their genetics, etc. I was logging more like 1500 calories/day when I first joined, and I lost over 15% of my body weight. I maintain on closer to (young, 5'8" female here)
  • I would stop focusing on a goal weight number, and just work towards getting healthy. The BMI chart is a good place to start with finding a goal weight range, and remember that some healthy people fall off either side of the "normal" range. No one knows what's happening in your boyfriend's head when he suggests 230, but I…
  • .... literally every food contains carbohydrates ;) We eat vegetables because they contain important nutrients. And their carbohydrate value is lower than something like bread.
  • I think you're obsessing about this way too much. 1200 is a very low calorie diet, so it's no surprise that your body is craving more food. You may weigh more the next day after eating because it's still in your GI tract. And people tend to overeat on high salt foods because they're tasty, and those retain water making you…
  • Pick a meat & a vegetable to center your meals around, instead of focusing them on the carbohydrate. Bake some potatoes & sweet potatoes to munch on when your body wants some carbs. Don't bake GF products & expect them to taste like "normal" ones. Try new recipes & explore new tastes instead of trying (and failing) to…
  • Congrats on the weight loss! It does look like skin, and a doctor can nip that off pretty easily if it really bothers you. I wear compression shorts when I'm feeling self-conscious about my stomach fat, which could be an option for you if you get self-conscious about your silhouette under fitted clothes, too. Maintain your…
  • You'll smell it when you wee if you've eaten too much protein...
  • Do you know of healthy restaurants you can go to? McDonald's double bacon cheeseburger w/extra-large fries & Coke is not healthy. Chipotle's chicken burrito bowl is pretty healthy. There's nothing wrong with eating out - you just need to make a plan to eat healthier when you go out. I
  • Ultramarathoners don't run ridiculous distances because they're seeking ideal health. It's just fun. And a great challenge.
  • I completely understand that feeling. And I hate people telling me I'm just lazy, but when I'm depressed doing things just seems like an insurmountable obstacle. What worked for me was the baby steps you're talking about. Walking two blocks instead of one. Walking to the store for milk instead of driving. I focused on…
  • How short are your toenails? I cut mine every few days when I'm doing a lot of distance work, so they recede more than usual. Gotta train the toenails too, haha. I hate toenails falling off - such a weird sensation when it's only attached by a little bit of flesh.
  • What type of workout are you doing? I do mostly cardio, so if I feel the need to eat before a workout it's primarily carbs (buttered toast, granola bar, etc.). Many people have issues with digesting fructose during a workout, so I steer clear of most fruit in the morning. I prefer fasted cardio, though.
  • 1) I love that you have Date Night with hubby scheduled in every week. That's adorable. 2) I only stick to a workout schedule when I'm busy if I get up early to do it. My recent love has been T25, which requires waking up about half an hour early. Somehow everything else still gets done. I've never tried to schedule out my…
  • Have you tried trail running? On a good day, I'll run for several miles without seeing another soul. Of course, the goal is to enjoy nature & challenge my body, but a nice side effect is alone time. Also, I think the idea of finding a running buddy is good. Meetup has groups for every level in my city. Really, no one is…
  • I can definitely understand reacting like that. It's a shame that no one realized the issue until the day before, and it's very difficult to tactfully bring up weight in a conversation like that. There was a recent high profile death of an obese girl in for a tonsillectomy, so I wouldn't be surprised if policies changed…
