  • 204.6 Down 3.8 and officially at goal weight. Still some toning left to do but I officially don't want to lose anymore.

  • Down 2 lbs since this morning, would have been a loss for the week if I didn't weigh in this morning. Headstart on next week.
  • 209.6 Up 1.4 Guess I'm officially at that point where that last little bit is going to be tough to take off.
  • If you want to join, you just did. We have a weekly thread with the same title just different date (Crazy Canucks "<date>". The thread is started each Wednesday which is our weigh in day. I'm sure some of the group members chat a little more via PMs but this thread is the dedicated source of discussion.
  • Wow, schweet. Had that customary buyers remorse for a couple hours after picking up the new car but I'm over it now. I don't know how I'm dropping the weight though, I haven't been watching my diet enough or getting to the gym enough lately, I guess it's the constant being on the go lately. Oh, and I had to share. The new…
  • And I'm Vancouver.
  • Had a conversation with a lady from work about this recently. She was telling me about looking good at the gym etc. It's the gym, you're not supposed to look good. Regardless of what you look like or your fitness level the fact that you are there getting something done is all that is important. Also, like anything in life…
  • A rather hectic week for me but got my deal done, pick up my brand new car today. :) Last week: 212.6 Today: 208.2 Not sure where the weight is coming from, really say the first 10 lbs have a dramatic effect on the body. The last 7 I don't think I look any different. May have to revise my goal to drop a few more as 3 more…
  • BTW, for me, best bang for your buck when needing those extra calories is baked potatoes.
  • I know you want to add the size while keeping it lean but that is very hard to do and takes a much longer period of time. This is why bodybuilders have bulk and cutting stages, to get the results in a shorter period for bulking you have to be able to accept a little less healthy eating and a adding a few points of body…
  • Same for me with mushrooms. I was "forced" to eat them or stay at the table until bedtime, I spent a lot of time at the table. Then the hiding thing which never worked. SOme foods and some people just were never meant to get along.
  • Welcome to the site. Read and learn all you can, some very good knowledge here and you'll learn quickly. Then it's just putting into practice. Good luck.
  • When you started MFP you set your daily activity level, if you considered those walks when you set that activity level then I wouldn't count it.
  • Going right off the map here. It's 2009, supplements can get the job done. I happen to like veggies so not a problem for me. I hate mushrooms though, and even if the FDA told me I need 2-3 servings of mushrooms a day to be healthy I wouldn't be eating them. A sustainable lifestyle does not include eating things you simply…
  • For me it's bargaining. I take a little then I have to give a little. My favourite "bad" food is KFC. I love it and simply cannot 100% cut it out of my life. But now it's in moderation and not without a price. Before really deciding to change my lifestyle there probably wasn't many weeks that I didn't pick up a 20 piece…
  • Depending on your activity level, size, muscle mass, etc 3000 calories is not all that high. I'm almost 160 lbs less than you in weight and I do eat approx 3000 calories on my heavy workout days. Lighter and inactive days my intake is more in the 2200-2500 range and yes I am losing weight eating at those levels. However,…
  • 1. I have no answer for why we talk ourselves out of the gym when we need to go and it helps in more ways than fitness but we do, find any motivation you can and force yourself to go which leads to the next point. 2. You see your boyfriend everyday and he gets to the gym a lot but you don't, why can't you go together? More…
  • Pushing yourself too hard could be the most simple answer. I was doing the same and it's hard to stop when you're seeing results quickly. After two weeks of really pushing I saw great results, I also was done for energy for the day after leaving the gym ( and sometimes before that). I lsitened to my body and took a number…
  • Per Kilo sounds much more correct. I've been reading a book designed for eating properly for athletes and even when at the highest training levels the recommendation is 0.9 grams per pound. During light intensity training (less than 8 hours per week) the recommendation is 0.5 grams per pound.

  • Blatant honesty, you need to worry not about just your looks but your health. Closing in on 40 carrying that kind of excess weight is asking for trouble. You need to do this most importantly for yourself but for your family as well and they should understand and support you. Talk to your family and get them on board with…

  • It's cliche but: Insanity = Doing the same thing without change and expecting a different result. If you want change you HAVE to change your lifestyle and you HAVE to stick with it. The only way nobody else will ever see parts of your body you're not happy with is if you do something about it. Do something now and stick…
  • Congratulations on your success so far with more to come. Such success just makes you want to keep going and I think posting these success stories helps keep everyone motivated, especially when someone has hit a plateau they can be reassured in time it will pass and they will have their own success stories to post. I was…
  • The odd indifferent or slight gain week isn't so bad, don't be discouraged. I pretty much maintained this week after forcing myself to stay away fro the gym most of it to allow my body to recharge. Got back into the gym today (819 calories burned, what's for dinner? ) and I could actually see very positive…
  • It all depends on you and the machine. After getting an HRM I found I was actually burning double what the machines were telling me.
  • "Healthy", even in the set parameters is quite subjective as well. BMI doesn't consider people with an above normal muscle mass either. According to my BMI I'm in the highest risk class and considered obese despite the fact that I'm only carrying about an extra 10 pounds of unwanted body weight.
  • Before he started as per the OP. With that high of a resting heart rate, he's a smoker right? If not I'd say that's dramatically high.
  • I think this is probably happens more with men due to increased muscle mass. My guess is he is adding muscle. Personally over the years I have always found that when I start working out after a long absense of doing so I typically put on 10-15 pounds in the first 2-3 weeks. Muscle memory has some pretty good longevity and…
  • Accountability is very important. I find myself to be pretty good at keeping myself accoutable but in addition to posting a weekly picture diary of my progress here I also added the same photo diary to my Facebook page today. Now all my real life friends and family are watching too. Any extra little push to help keep us…
