  • We were just having the belly fat/cardio vs. strength training discussion in my office the other day. It was more on the endurance cardio, but this one woman (who's in her 50s and fit as hell) was saying that the rest of us should not hike/mountain bike/hula hoop for hours because long bouts of cardio actually help you put…
  • darn, mom! ;) oh well. I did manage to get some hooping in last night after all since my last class was cancelled. Working on paddles, which I clearly do not understand at all!!
  • has your mom hooped before? That would be awesome! No chance in hell my mom would ever try it. Good job on the 20 minutes. I drop the hoop all the time still. My pets live in fear.
  • sorry hun :( hope it was a good move in all though
  • interesting! Maybe your hips got unbalanced somehow in your workout? I have scoliosis and I know on days when my hips are really off, I can't do a dang thing going to my right. 30 minutes accomplished last night before I went and drank half a day's calories with the girls.
  • not happening today. Working 8 am-9 pm. At least 3 & 1/2 hours of that are dance.
  • nope, didn't work out for me. Worked 8-8, ate food, collapsed also.
  • blargh...this is SO not working out for me. Though I will say that I've hooped more lately than I usually do, so that's a win. I'm working 8-6 today then have a dinner date with a friend. We'll see how late I get home.
  • no hooping today. We were at the Cutter races all day (benefit for Shriner's hospital, horses pulling people in little carts over snow). Much drinking and betting is involved, so by the time we got home, I was too sloshed to hoop.
  • ha, yes it is! I've been cranking the heat when I hoop lately so I can hoop in shorts and a tank top. I got an hour in today. Bought a new album on itunes and hooped the whole way through. Probably can't hoop tomorrow, as we're going to the mall, which is an all day affair (100 miles away and over 2 mountain passes).
  • I'm going to try between work and dinner if the husband works later than me. I hate to make him my scapegoat, but we have a small space and I haven't kept up with the 30 day challenge because I'm driving him nuts with hooping while he's home. Happy v-day hoopers!
  • HA! Are you getting the hoop going with your hand before you stick your foot in? I've been blowing this challenge big time :( Too much work and sickness. But new hoops got delivered yesterday and I'm dying to use them, even if I cough, hack, and sneeze my way through it. Hoping hubby gets home later than me tonight and I…
  • that sounds awesome! I'll have to see if I can find it on the web here eventually.
  • Yeah, where do you live? I'm a little jealous...though I won't be when I go snowboarding after this storm passes. I'm not in the south, so this is an all-winter-long occurrence here. Good job on the chest hooping!
  • sorry hun. But to give you some hope, it is hard at first, but I know a lot of curvy ladies who are awesome upper body hoopers. Just stick with it. Sigh...I'm starting to remember why I've failed at 30 day hoop challenges before. The only place I can do it is in the living room/open kitchen area and the husband doesn't…
  • missed day 5 :( Too much going on. Awesome progress melry!
  • missed hooping Sat. but I did get some snowboarding in and then went dancing at a concert :)
  • good morning! Hopefully I get my 30 in tonight. I dropped one of the dance classes I teach-was feeling too stressed. So I won't be working until 9 pm, hooray! Have a good day all.
  • I had a craft fair yesterday, so that consumed me from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m....but I got my hooping in! My body hurt so bad from sitting in a little plastic chair all day, that I thought it might help. So I busted out my old, heavier hoop and mostly did some waist hooping.
  • Hope work is tolerable! Planning on getting my 30 in right after work, hopefully before hubby gets home. The peanut gallery is too much for me to get into my flow sometimes!
  • Rihanna hooping :) NICE! As I predicted, I wasn't able to hoop yesterday. I taught 3 hours of dance classes and my knee was swelled up, so I just put my jammies on when I got home after 13 hours of work and opened some wine!
  • I teach ballet, jazz, and tap and give my students conditioning classes with the suggestions below. I also hoop dance and do poi. I've never done very heavy weight lifting, but I do a lot of hand-held weights, kettlebells, resistance band, Pilates circle, and body weight exercises. I think planks are the best thing ever,…
  • lol, take progress where you can get it!
  • Yum! I've made banana ice cream before, but not with coco or almond powder. Will have to try that!
  • I have good and bad PT experiences, but in general it's been very helpful to me (when I can afford it). The key for me was finding a good one & sticking with her. It's great when someone knows all your pains and how to help already when you walk in the door.
  • I agree, try logging EVERYTHING you eat for awhile, and track your nutrients as well. I've found that tracking sugar and protein has been really helpful. I was getting too little protein and too much sugar sometimes, and felt like crap on those days. I'm a dance teacher and am also very active outside of work and it is…
  • It only tastes like what it's cooked with, so if you've had tasteless tofu it wasn't prepared well. I always drain tofu on a cutting board and press extra water out with paper towels. Cut in cubes and toss with some olive oil and spices you like (steak seasoning actually works really well). Then, I put a flat lid on top of…
  • My favorite cookbook is Simply Vegetarian. I pretty much learned to cook with it when I was a teenager. My mom was pissed that I became vegetarian & wouldn't eat her food, so she decided I just needed to cook for myself. I'm a fan of making casseroles, so when I get home at night and am tired, I still have a good dinner.…
  • Hi group! I am a dance teacher (ballet, tap and jazz mainly) but am also a hooper (non-fire for now) and do fire poi. I also just got into minis or poi hooping. We don't have many resources here, but I have some friends that hoop and spin and we get together on occasion and share.
