  • Anyone still kicking? Back to work, so I have commuting miles again. 60 this week, and I don't think I will get any weekend miles in so that is probably going to be the total.
  • I am still kicking, but am not coming here as often as I used to. Last week's weather was a killer, so I didn't get hardly any riding in. I haven't checked, but I think 20 miles is pretty close to what I did for the whole week. I am on vacation this week, and the weather is still cold but at least not actively snowing, and…
  • I got my usual 63 in this week, but I won't have nearly that much next week. I have a little three day jaunt down to Austin this week and that will take three of my commute days out of the mix.
  • Thanksgiving knocked off 13 miles since I had one less day of commuting, but I still had 50 miles for the week.
  • Not bad at all. Some people adjust their ratios and do that on purpose every day. If you are doing any resistance training it may even be a really good idea. The default ratios are based on averages for everyone.
  • I am still hanging around as well. Not doing any recreational riding now with the weather turning sour, but I still do 64 miles each week from my commute, which is now on my mountain bike with studded tires, so each mile feels like more than it used to ;)
  • It depends on your muscle building goals I think. As Brenda said, if you want to really bulk up, you need calories to do that. I don't think you will find anyone to contradict that statement. But, if you are eating a healthy diet, your body is getting the nutrients it needs. If you are in a calorie deficit you are not…
  • I use lights from dealextreme.com. I picked them up last year. I have a small one mounted to my helmet and a beefier one mounted to the handlebars. They were about $50 combined and use rechargeable 18650 batteries, which are also sold on that site with the charger. For the rear I just use the Planet Bike Superflash (two of…
  • Well, what to say? Weather is not as good as it was. I am not riding recreationally on weekends so much now. I still have my commute, and I will do that all winter pretty much regardless of the weather (barring horrific hail or something like that). So, I will be hovering in the 70ish mile per week range for the most part…
  • I had 87 miles for the week. Likely will have about the same this week. Weather is getting nastier all the time so there isn't much recreational riding beyond the commuting miles.
  • Lots of crickets. Fall creeping up on us. Cycling isn't so popular unless you are more of a die-hard. That being said, I didn't hit my 100 this week, but I did get 87. Considering the nasty weather this week that is pretty good. I scored a set of studded tires for my mountain bike. I rode with normal knobbies last year. I…
  • Week is over. 104.8 miles. They have a path opened up so I don't have to do as long a commute, so I may not hit my 100 next week, but it is still going to be my goal.
  • I did an 18 mile ride just for fun today. We had a big wind storm last night, and it was still pretty windy today, but not so much that I didn't feel like riding. It was kind of funny because all along the route, which is a standard route for me, my path is constantly being blocked by all manner of tree branches and sticks…
  • Well, 117.76 for the week. Would have been more, but they opened the bridge early this week so I didn't have the longer commute. Still only going for 100 per week though.
  • I have been commuting on my bike every day for around 18 months now. I don't take te car unless I really have no choice, and that is less than once a month. I have to confess though, my legs are feeling the extra miles. My speed to/from work today was 1mph less than it was on Monday and Tuesday. They just don't have it in…
  • I lived there for a year and won't even go there on vacation now. As a tourist you get treated quite well, but if you are not a native and you live there, you get treated horribly by the locals. That wasn't just my observation. Everyone I worked with had the same perception. Rising cost of housing has hit people who work…
  • That could be how you are lifting. To tone and not bulk up you need lots of reps with a low weight. If you do fewer reps with a higher weight you are going to get bigger.
  • I have been gaining muscle in deficit mode, but it is slow. Depressingly slow.
  • My 'normal' commute is about 6 miles each way. That hasn't been what I have been riding lately though. In anticipation of a bridge closure (a bridge I use daily), I have been riding the long way home, which doubles the distance. So, I have been doing an 18 mile daily commute where I used to be doing 12 miles. But, today…
  • Well, actual miles last week was 76.62. I did some miles on the exercise bike since I was stuck a bit due to the wife's surgery, but I am not sure how to count those so I am just leaving them out of the whole thing. Back to the grind this week, and my commute is going to be 24 miles round trip this week due to some bridge…
  • Funny you mention the delicate fuel balance. I have plateaud for the past almost four weeks now. What did I change? I started riding MORE miles. Of course, I also got sluggish, so I had to start eating more food. When your commute clocks in at over 18 miles, and four of those are up a serious hill, you can't be running a…
  • This was the first post, which said nothing about interacting with ex-girlfriends online. That information wasn't disclosed until later, and that is how the discussion went down the path that it did. Although I already said it, some responders are still saying the same things. You are certainly entitled to your opinion,…
  • Tis the season. Around here the weeds we call 'goat heads' are everywhere. Anyone riding without a spare tube, tire levers, and a pump, is destined to be walking along and pushing their bike before the day is finished.
  • There are a lot of sub-topics floating around in this thread. They all share a common theme, but they are each separate in their own way. For the person who is getting together on-line with ex-girlfriends, there are precious few women who are going to be tolerant or understanding of that. I have a couple ex-girlfriends as…
  • I have an opportunity to ride with Greg LeMond on Saturday. Of course, my wife just had surgery so heading out for a full day of bike riding while she is stuck at home isn't going to be politically feasible for me. I may have to just swing by on my LeMond road bike and get him to sign it for me, then just go home and not…
  • I actually have thought of that, but there isn't anything mechanically wrong with this stationary bike. It is very smooth and easy to use, just horribly inaccurate. In the end it really doesn't matter. Exercise is exercise.
  • The computer on my exercise bike is wacked! My wife had some knee surgery today, so I am doing the stay at home dad/husband thing this week. As a result I don't have my normal commute, nor do I have any personal cycling time. I did get to the park with my son today and we did the 10 mile MUP together, but since he isn't…
  • Well, my week is done. I didn't ride home on Friday because I needed to drive my uncle home from a medical procedure, so that lack of 12 miles almost put me under my goal. That notwithstanding, I pulled in 103 miles, so I made it. I also see the work around my bridge starting, so I may have a lot more miles in the near…
  • Just a couple of weeks ago the FDA issued a warning about more side effects of using Alli. Before using, you may want to read up on it. You have to change your diet if you use it, so just eat what you would have while taking Alli and you can lose weight without crapping yourself.
  • Well, my week is over. I ended up at 121 miles for this week, and I was on vacation. How cool is that? Back to the regular grind next week, commuting again. I must admit, the miles this week were more interesting than a normal week. I went somewhere different every day.
