OK, my turn. This thread sounds like it was made for me. Turning 50 next January, so close enough. I joined MFP in May 2012. I am not quite 5 feet tall (4' 11.5"), and currently weight about 144. My goal is to weigh around 115 lbs. I dropped to 125 pounds in 2012, then started creeping back up slowly. I started running in…

You went 11 days before allowing yourself a free day! Good for you!!!!! Now get back on your program, and don't forget to allow yourself a break once in a while. Next "cheat day", or "free day", or whatever you choose to call it, just make sure you enjoy every bite without recrimination, and the next day, get back in the…

People, let's back the truck up a bit, shall we? Tasha, I am reading through the responses, and I agree that there is one individual in particular that got a little hostile awfully fast. We are all here for the same reason, and I can see how when someone makes a move to reach out for help, we can be sensitive to the…

I often refer to myself as having a "marshmallow coating".

Good luck, and remember: Trust in your training. :)

I also wear contacts and had no problems. Just make sure you have a pair of sunglasses that have large lenses - ones that cover the sides too would probably help. Failing that - maybe swim goggles? Bigger issue - getting the dust in your mouth at the stations because you are laughing so much. maybe a bandana, or just…

Thanks! Yes, I think the Half is just about the right challenge for me. The Lulu was awesome, and I was fortunate enough to be able to train for a couple of weeks along the same route as the race. Next year's goal will of course to beat this year. :) Most of the tips I received had to do with either hydration or muscle…

And again, I thank you awesome people for the support. It really does make a difference. This weekend I am doing a colour run, which will be just for fun. Then in 2 weeks, our community is holding something called the "Mud Trials". It is a scaled down version of Tough Mudder - 5 km and 22 obstacles. That's my next…

Thank you - yes, I am pretty happy about it. :blushing:

Thanks! I enjoyed your blog about your full marathon this past weekend. Congratulations, awesome job!!!!!!! :)

Ran my first half marathon last weekend (had leg cramp problems and finished in 2 hours 47 minutes. Signed up for another one in 3 weeks. And this morning I held the plank at boot camp for 4 minutes 30 seconds. :)

Thank you for sharing your story. You did amazing! I realize that the only person disappointed with my run is myself. And so that is why I am going to try it again. Every day we get another chance. This time I am doing it for me. I think that possibly part of the reason for doing one in the first place was bragging rights,…

Thank you all again for all the wonderful advice and suggestions. I just signed up for the Wine Country Half Marathon in Kelowna, and I will take all this new information into consideration. I went out for a 10km on Monday morning (2nd day after the HM), and did just fine, so I feel like I will be ok for this next one in 3…

1) Thank you. :) 2) Training was provided - I started about 3 months before. 3 to 4 runs per week, with 1 long run each Saturday. The last 5 long runs pre-race were: 16; 18; 19; 22.5; and 11. I also attend boot camp 2 mornings per week. 3) Last LONG run was 2 weeks before the HM. The last kind of long run was 11 km the…

Thank you for the links - I will read them tonight. I purchased a foam roller, but those things are going to take a little time to get used to!

It was a relaxation massage about 2 days before. I believe the advice I was given was to go a couple of weeks before, but I hadn't been able to fit it in earlier. I explained to the massage therapist that I was running in 2 days, so she said she was careful not to go too deep. She did say she could feel a lot of tension in…

Hi MoreBean13; My shoes are about 6 weeks old (Asic Gel Nimbus). And I bought them a half size larger to accommodate my feet swelling while running. So I think I had that covered as well. I think possibly not hydrating BEFORE, as suggested by bert16. Thank you for all the kind words and suggestions - I am starting to feel…

P.S. Congrats on your runs and good luck with your Marathon!

Thank you - that also makes sense. Sometimes it's good to get objective second (and third) opinions from others. Much appreciated. :)

Good point - I was probably not drinking as much as I had during training. I will work on that. Thank you. :)

"It will pass"........get it?

Thanks! These all seem like great ideas....now my problem is which one to try first? Seriously, appreciate all the suggestions. :)

I don't usually think about it, but being 4'11 " has its challenges. If I were a few inches taller, I would be at a perfect weight! Anyhow, it's not something I can change, so I don't really give it much thought.

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you really wanted to know what we could do to help. Clearly she needed a place to vent and maybe hear some words to make her feel better. Even a simple "Wow, that was a really crappy thing that happened.Sorry to hear about this" would probably have helped.

I'm not a morning person at all, but I signed up for a 5:30 a.m. boot camp 2 years ago, and I'm still going 3 days a week. Mostly - some days I sleep in. But I find that accountability helps me get out of bed. I also started giving another lady a ride to the classes, so when I know she is waiting for me, I get out of bed…
