  • A "diet" implies that it is temporary until goal is reached and then you resume old (normal) eating habits. A "lifestyle change" to me means eating better, making it continuous habit.
  • Hated: -shopping for clothes. Men's summer shirts-bright, summer colors in regular sizes..3XL in navy blue or brown only. -Airline seats. -Amusement park rides. -Booths at some restaurants.
  • If I know days in advance that I will be going out to eat, I will eat less the day before and the day after my restaurant cheat meal. If it's a spur-of-the-moment thing, I'll eat less for the next 2 days. The idea is that I will have averaged my normal calorie range over 3 days. Think of it like per diem spending money. If…
  • I could not believe my eyes when I plugged in a SMALL DQ dipped cone. 330 calories!
  • That's good news to hear. I hate my moobs. :'(
  • I've gotten used to water with just lemon juice. Fresh squeezed if I have it on hand, RealLemon® juice if fresh not available
  • How is an Egg McMuffin any different than if you had breakfast at home: 1 English muffin, 1 sl. ham/back bacon, 1 egg, 1 slice cheese (product). That's even smaller than what I'd eat at home because I'd cook 2 eggs.
  • I do this if I know I am going to eat out later that night. But I wouldn't say I "eat very little" but rather I eat sensibly. Even when I do go out after having saved the room, I don't go crazy on the calories. Yes, after a while I don't even notice. I think you'll find that if you eat healthy foods often, you can actually…
  • Think of it this way: A lb of lead would be like, maybe, the size of a hockey puck. A lb of Corn Flakes would be like the double-jumbo family size at Costco. A very muscular person would be smaller yet heavier than a fluffy, fat person.
  • I was under the impression that the opposite was true: Weight gain causes sleep apnea (barring any nasal problems like deviated septum) When I was 330lbs i had severe apnea and felt like crap every day that I didn't use my CPAP. Now (still overweight at 255lbs) I hardly use my CPAP maybe 2 nights a week and I still feel…
  • When I have a weekend event coming up where I know I will be going over my daily calorie limit, I compensate by staying under my limit the day before and the day after. Think of it like a daily cash allowance. If I get, say, $50 to spend every day and one day I spent $70. If I spend only $40 the day before and $40 the day…
  • My journey started at 124kg (320lbs) but I didn't find MFP until I was already sub 300. I'm currently 114kg (251lbs). Add me if you like.
  • I've also had friends say walking isn't exercise. Yeah, at your present fitness level which is probably pretty good. One guy said "Hell, I could walk for days, its so effortless." Oh, yeah? Strap a 50lb bag of potatoes on your back and see if its still effortless.
  • Pringles. My kryptonite. And then I have to wash them down with Coke. Close 2nd would be cashews or pistachios.
  • Try this: Melt dark chocolate chips in a bowl in the microwave. Put a small dollop on parchment paper, about a 1"-1.5" circle. Put 4 almonds in the chocolate, and add another dollop of choco on top and then top with unsweetened coconut flakes. Chill in the fridge. Voila. Nice, bite-sized snacks. Don't eat too many in one…
  • Actually, the first time I looked, the pics didn't come up. Then when I did see it and saw the joke, I tried to delete my post, but got an error. PS- That is funny.
  • Not a diet. For me, anyway. A "diet" implies that it is only temporary and that it will end at some time. A lifestyle change is forever. Break bad habits, adopt new habits and they will stick with you.
  • Even when I was a fit teen at 17, I was "stick thin" and weighed 185lbs while my friends were around 155-170lbs. I'm fat NOW, but I wasn't back then. I used to love winning prizes at the carnival weight guessers who always guessed low. In high school and college I had a linebacker's build due to weightlifting and sports.…
  • I guess I rollover in a sense. I rollover my overages. If, on a given day, I eat over my calorie limit then I consciously try to be below for the next day to equalize things. But if I am below one day, I do not eat more the next day.
  • I don't understand why you took insulin for carbs that you didn't eat. I have friends who are on insulin and they shoot up the insulin for the # of carbs they ate. Actually ate, not planned to eat. Maybe you're taking your insulin too early?, sounds like you didn't even eat the carb food yet and ultimately ended up not…
  • When I'm eating foods like potato salad, chicken salad, egg salad, etc. I use my measuring cups before putting it on my sandwich. 1/4c, 1/2c. You could do so with pulled pork I would imagine.
  • Biggest :319lb @5'8" Now: 253lb @5'8" Goal is ~200lb
  • - Big bag of Pringles Zesty Cheese! -Whole tube of Pringles. Along with almost a whole 2L of Pepsi. - Whole 12" pizza. Many different occasions. - I'm ashamed of this one, but it was in my past fat life. I used one of those "Two can dine for $xx" coupons at McDonald's and ate the whole shooting match.
  • I'm in Canada...we don't have half of the restaurants you guys in the US have.
  • Hi, Pete. Just wanted to comment that you look kinda like writer/director Kevin Smith. Cheers!
  • I've heard many good things about 5 Guys Burger & Fries. I wish they'd open one in my neck of the woods. Closest one to me is in Bangor, Maine.
  • I have a medical scale (the one like in your doctor's office). It's accurate. If I weigh first thing in the morning, I am 1-1.5kg lighter than I was before I went to bed. No wonder everybody says to weigh in first thing in morning...you're lightest then.
  • Think of it like saving money. If you work hard and bank every penny; you only buy food/essentials, you don't have cable, cell phone, you don't go out for dinner, movies, you don't entertain guests, all you do is work and sleep. Yes, you will have an impressive bank account but are you really enjoying your life? Now, not…
  • I also don't think it's a myth. I think it's not so much "the slower you lose weight, the more it will stay off..." as "the less radical change to your current diet will be easier to endure." This is a marathon, not a sprint. Moderation is the key. If you sprint flat out right from the start, you probably will peter out…
  • If its black coffee then you're good to go. You should log coffee if you take cream and sugar; especially if you drink 4-5 cups a day.
