  • Hi. I used to live in Portage for about 6 years. Unsalted raw almonds, cashews, and pumpkin seeds are pretty good snack options.
  • Sweet n Low & cream.
  • I am planning to start Insanity soon with a friend after their Vegas vacation. I am sure it will be difficult in general but I am a bit concerned about the problem I've had in the past with shin splints. I have had issues with plyo mechanics and running on a treadmill. I do an elliptical for cardio now since there is no…
  • I've found this to be a good tool for me. Once you find your current body fat % you can input a target % on the next page and it tells you what you would weigh at that BF%. http://www.fat2fitradio.com/tools/mbf/
  • I think it has a lot to do with what body type you were before becoming 230 lbs. If you were lean and not muscular it would be different than if you were. For instance I was an athlete all through school and college. I played in college at 180-185 lbs at only 5'7". I was in the best shape of my life yet any chart would say…
  • This season of the NBC show Parenthood has gotten me at several times. I hadn't seen it before this year but its been really strong as well as good in general.
  • Its embarassing to say a movie that stars Keanu Reeves but Hardball gets to me every time. Its about him coaching a little league team and one of the boys dies.
  • I would take it more as a way of saying they could show anything why pick to zoom in on her *kitten*? I have no idea who the girl was but presumably she had more flattering features they could have focused on. Another angle is I recall in the Olympics there was a member of the women's volleyball team who did not appear to…
  • 1200 calories is the minimum or your in starvation mode. If you are under, especially WAY under, then you aren't helping yourself any. Eating some of your calories back is good as well. If you exercise don't be afraid at all to go to 1300-1400 calories.
  • I didn't read everything and I'm sure it has been stated but you need a minimum of 1200 calories every day to stay out of starvation mode. A daily multivitamin would probably be helpful for you as well if you don't currently take one.
  • I've seen the recommendation to have a protein shake within 15 minutes after a workout if that's what you want to have. The reason given was to help reduce muscle soreness.
  • Becky- I'm not a father but my job gives me very little free time for about half of the year. Having extra motivation and support is helpful but I've found that you don't really commit to a change until it comes from within. Anyone can say anything but it won't last until you are ready to do it for yourself and not someone…

  • I take a 500 mg chewable Vitamin C. Just round, no cartoon shapes. At lunch I take a multi vitamin from Complete Nutrition. Its like GNC Mega or probably a lot of others.
  • To me it is knowing that if I don't get up and go I won't do anything that day. It also helps having a pet that also got on that schedule and pokes me in the face if I turn the alarm off and lay there. One morning I just did not want to get up because I could have slept another 2 hours if I didn't go to the gym. I said to…
  • Buy new pants... when your current ones are too big! Keep squeezing in as a reminder why you are working hard. It can also help in those times when the scale says you haven't lost but your pants tell you otherwise.
  • I've never done shred but its sounds like: Muscle weighs more than fat. You are stimulating muscles much more than you were by walking. That's all there is to it really. I bet if you have your old and new measurements and put them into a body fat calculator you'll see your change there rather than on a scale. Sometimes you…
  • You didn't do everything you've done up til now to stop! My alarm went off one morning and I had no interest in getting up and going to the gym. I mainly just didn't want to get out of bed. My cat kept poking me in the face because he wanted to eat but I felt like he was reminding me you didn't get to where you are by…

  • Having gone through this myself all I can tell you is that when someone isn't ready to commit to a lifestyle change they don't do it. I was a college athlete and knew how and what would happen and I just put it off for years. There are way too many excuses, and that is all they are. I work 80-90 hours a week now, but the…
  • It isn't very convenient for at home but I have found that where walking/running would give me bad shin splints and elliptical trainer does not. I think it was the pounding, especially from running. There is no impact on an elliptical.
  • Sleep with his brother or best friend, or both, at once.
  • I think it is an ill advised attempt at a compliment. It is insulting but I doubt they intend for it to be.
  • I don't have a tape measure yet but I do know that I was given the same size pants for work last year and this year and this year they almost fall off. :)
  • I do that frequently but when the gym isn't busy and no one has shown any sign of using one of them. I also get the sets done quickly and move on. If someone asks I say go for it as well.
  • Being there early in the morning and there are only 2 people using weight equipment. I go to the machine I'm going to use next after what I was doing and change the settings so it is ready and the only other person in the gym goes to it and does 1 set only and changes everything.
  • Just be honest with what you log or you can't stay on course. You'd only be lying to yourself. :)
  • SW: 248 CW: 225 GW: 190 or whatever the scale says when the mirror test passes.
  • I'm John. Originally from Muncie from birth thru college and then moved around to North Carolina, Michigan and Ohio before settling in Lafayette currently. I'm about 90 days in with MFP and loving the results.
