Have you seen my baseball?

Seriously though, I think I've lost my mojo (baseball) for working out

Maybe it's a chemical imbalance or depression or I'm so close to goal that I've slacked off and don't care anymore...I've settled **gasp**

I'm lazy, I'm busy, I'm a slacker. I had to make this picture my profile pic to remind me that I CAN do it! (ETA: Well, since I change my pic more often than I blink, it's likely to change before this thread dies off..it's the one of me in the pink UnderArmour)

Motivators...assemble! Please kick my @$$ back into gear and remind me why I'm doing this and what I'm capable of.

Help me find my mojo

I've been exactly there. You get close and start to take it easy.

    SMACK! Stop it!

You want this? You sure worked hard at it. You looking to give up now?

You don't need motivation. You don't need to feel your mojo. The only thing you need to do is put one foot in front of the other and move. Start running, get to the gym. Whatever, just make yourself do it. Motivated or not.

You'll feel back to your old self the minute you do.

And you've got me. I won't let you quit. :flowerforyou:

    NOW DO IT!

Thats exactly what happened to me after I hit the 100 lb mark. Suddenly I can't force myself to run or do most of the cardio I used to enjoy. Luckily, my current lifting program doesn't encourage cardio!

Maybe you just need to switch it up???

In all fairness, it happens to the best of us....I'm in a similar situation, ever since I got back from vacation last month everything has been on a downturn.....you just have to push forward or regret holding yourself back \m/

I am right there with ya. I have lost about 90 lbs and all of sudden I don't really care, well I do, but I cheat all the time. I need to get back to it and I am exercising but I don't like it as much as I used to. Help!

I have been on this site since last June, and the past couple of months I have really slacked in tracking my food and doing any cardio (I do strength training twice a week). Back when I was doing a couple of cardio sessions a week, I was losing weight. Now, I'm losing still but it is taking much longer. So I know what to do, but I'm not doing it. I totally understand where you are coming from, I keep telling my trainer that I'm becoming extremely lazy.

I think for me, it is a phase and I will get back to my walking sessions soon. There's nothing wrong with taking a break. You will get back on track!

If you can't get motivated, go through the motions. Just show up to get something in. It will take care of itself after that.

I feel like I just got mine back. It was gone for a good while. Why not try something new? For me it's dance class and boot camp. Between the two I am feeling motivated and then my pants get smaller and the whole thing starts to feel good.

On the nyc mfp group, Captain Apollo put up a deal for NYSC. There is one down Water Street. I bought it- it's a 30 day membership. I would go with you on lunch a few times a week if you want to do it.

I lost it for about 2 months, but for some reason this week is new and I'm pushing harder than ever.

    I love you guys!

I have a gym membership(Club Metro). A year contract that I got last February and have been wasting money paying without using. If only I could drag my tired butt out of bed at 4 or 5 am and actually go!

LOL the title of this thread...I love it.

I have been feeling the same way. I have a gym membership that I have been wasting also. It's getting colder & gloomy here and I think that might have something to do with it.

    LMNOP -

    (See what I did thurrrr?)

You don't need willpower or motivation or any of that jazz. All you need is to take a deep breath and start. Just take the (second) first step. You'll be reminded so quickly of why you took that (first) first step towards your baseball.

Mayb you do just need a short break - then get back at it.

I couldn't do that...because taking a break would give me the excuse to never run again. So, if you know you can handle a break, then take one. If you are concerned you wll never get back on it, then I suggest you just get up and go do it even if you are not 100% committed. Sometimes Nike is right: Just do it.

Look at working out as a social life and a stress reliever. Maybe just do a workout that is in a group setting like Zumba, spinning or linedancing. You will have fun, feel better and maybe get your mojo back.

You didn't do everything you've done up til now to stop!

My alarm went off one morning and I had no interest in getting up and going to the gym. I mainly just didn't want to get out of bed. My cat kept poking me in the face because he wanted to eat but I felt like he was reminding me you didn't get to where you are by taking days off and you're not going to get to where you want to be by starting now.

Ele, it happens to me every couple months. I think I'm some sort of billy bad *kitten* who doesn't need to work out as hard anymore.... and then my pants start getting tight, and I'm reminded that I'm not. So I get my mojo back.

You just have to get up off your *kitten* and do it. I say it with love, Mongorian :flowerforyou:

  • Weight is roughly 80% controlled by food and 20% by working out. (An hour at the gym can be destroyed by a burger- do the math)

But health (BP etc) is greatly aided by what you do in the gym.

My motto is eat less to lose weight but workout to stay healthy!

My experience of this weight loss/fitness thing is that it goes in cycles. You can be totally geared up for a few months.....looking forward to hitting the gym every day. Sometimes finding yourself going to the gym twice in one day just 'cause you love it so much. Seeing results and loving the experience and then at other times you can spend months in a slump where you just don't want to do it.

In my experience there's a few things you can do to try to get out of the slump, most of these have already been mentioned, I think, though:
    1. Just push through....make yourself go. As others have said, you've worked too hard to give up now. Sometimes it helps to get in a routine eg. go to the gym Monday, Wednesday and Friday straight from work, or whatever. And after a few weeks of that it becomes habit and second nature to just go there on auto-pilot.
    2. Find a gym buddy. This can be tricky as it can be hard to find someone the same fitness level as you and also someone who is going to stick it out. If you find a rubbish gym buddy then it can be detrimental as them skipping out on a work out can provide you with another excuse to skip out, too.....so be careful about this.
    3. Mix it up. As some other people said, try something more social like a fitness class or Zumba. Or try something completely different. I usually go to gym classes and love them but there are times when they become a bit 'samey' and boring after a while and I start to lose motivation to go. When that happens, I start to go swimming and cycling in the gym more often rather than the classes. Right now I'm starting out on the C25K programme to try and introduce a bit of running in and mix things up even more.
    4. Try 'sports' rather than 'fitness'. Sometimes when we are aiming to get fit or lose weight it becomes a chore and we forget that it can be fun! I, personally, am pretty much a lone wolf when it comes to work outs so most sports are my idea of hell (don't like working as part of a team in case I let the team down!) but I do love things like martial arts which are more individualistic sports or things where its one vs one such as tennis, badminton, squash etc. Sometimes when you're playing a game, fighting a fight or learning the ropes of a new sport, you forget you're even doing exercise until you finish and discover that you're drenched in sweat!

Feel free to add me and PM me for some support if you want. I'm going through an 'up' phase myself right now but just came out a no motivation phase so I feel your pain! :)

This is exactly my first though. It's a running gag at work. Except, she doesn't call it a baseball.....

And Elez, i here you on the motivation thing. Last night was my second run since my last half marathon on September 23rd. That 2 runs over 17 days. Not good. But i feel ready to go after that break. So get your *kitten* together and get to work. No excuses!
