I paid for a membership at a natatorium and swim laps. It never hurts and Is very good for cardio. I can swim an hour now before about 5 minutes.0

Hi, have you tried Leslie Sansone walk way the pounds?? I like her it's not to hard but u do break a sweat . Hope this helps.

I literally typed "commercial time workout" into google because you said you have a difficult time working out for more than a minute at a time, but if you can make it through an entire commercial break you're doing awesome . . . and for an hour long show that's more than 15 minutes of exercise time if you workout through each commercial.0 -
Tony Horton's Ten Minute Trainer
I started doing just one 10 minute workout, pausing the DVD every time I needed a break. At first it would take about half an hour to get through one but now I can do all 5 consecutively no prob.
Since it was 'only 10 minutes', it was easy to talk myself into working out when I was less than motivated. I highly recommend it!0 -
The one thing I found I can do even when I was not working out. Is the yoga ball. It is so easy to watch tv while doing crunches with it, side to sides and leg lifts with it. You can feel the difference as well.The sad thing is~ I am so out of shape, it is hard for me to continue exercise for over a minute without stopping for a few seconds to a minute.I am really looking for a beginner's out of shape workout program to start with, then when I can get through that, work my way up..I know it needs to be kinda fast-paced to burn calories, I have looked and looked, just wondering if anyone has anymore ideas..Also~ walking is a good source to burn calories? I can only walk for about a block atm without shear pain ripping through my shin area. Does anyone have any advice on how to get past this difficult first stage? I really need to get going. I feel like a failure because I cannot do much without the pain.( I really let myself get out of shape, it is embarrassing)..If anyone has advice or has been where I am~ please~ help me..Thank you for taking the time to read my story..and thanks for the previous answers girls~ those workouts are just a bit too much for me yet, but I'm trying to get there..Have a great day!0

Do you have Comcast of Fios? If so...the On Demand feature has TONS of workouts! It's an amazing, free tool. Go to On Demand>Sports and Fitness>Fitness Workouts
From there, there's tons of categories to choose from. They have a beginner, intermediate and advanced section with aaaaaall different types of workouts. Enjoy!0 -
Sweatin to the Oldies, the original 30-minute video, is an oldie but a goodie. (Puns deeply intended.) I was using it a lot four months ago, when I as embarassingly obese. (Now I'm just sorta, normal obese. If that makes sense. Just you know, you see a lot of people my size now.) Course, if the tone of the video grates on your nerves it might not be for you... it depends on your personality. I like it, because it felt so hard to take the thought of ME doing EXERCISE seriously, that I needed a video that didn't take itself too seriously, either.

really low impact but still has an affect and burns cals. i did this for a month and now can do the harder exercises like Zumba.

I too was where u are, I dont have time to read all the comments so I dont know if I am repeating what someone else said lol I found walking to b a GREAT exercise, I have lost 30lbs from walking and watching what I eat. Start slow and stop when u need to. When I 1st started I had to stop ALL THE TIME and seemed like it was probably pointless. I walk a track at a park and I rememer when I 1st started I had to stop at EVERY bench, EVERY water fountain and took all I had to finish 1 lap (1mile). Every couple of days add a little more distance and you will be surprised how quickly your body will adapt. I now walk that same track 31/2 laps each day, WITHOUT stopping, I chuckle to myself when I walk past those benches now. You CAN DO IT!!!!! Dont rush it because you will wear yourself out and most likely stop. Hope this helps you feel a little better.0

Anyone can start here .... you don't need a senior DVD either. These DVDs do not have "choreography" .... what that means is you can ALWAYS slow things down & move at your own pace. The Walk at Home DVDs are chaptered .... if you only want to do 1 mile ... just use your remote control to "skip" to the last mile, you never have to do the whole thing. These are available at Target, Wal-Mart, etc.
30 Day Shred is too hard on my knees ... no way can I do that one.0 -

this^^^^^^^ but i have lost 87lbs from watching my calories and walking, i started off slowly now i do at least 6 miles a day sometimes as much as 14 miles (got a toddler who loves the fresh air and school run is a 3 mile round trip twice a day)
a great tool i found was endomondo a fitness tracker on blackberry apps, though i think its available on loads of other phones, it basically tracks your route via gps and uploads it to its website, alternatively you can go on its website and "draw" your workout to keep track if you dont have that type of phone.
you can either join challenges set by other users as a way to motivate you, or set yourself a challenge like walk 10 miles (or km) in 28 days, it really motivates you to get moving, i have done the 100 mile in a month one a few times the most i managed was 153 miles but it was glorious weather that month lol
also get yourself an mp3 player to listen to whilst walking
and lastly i no its hard work when you first start out and its so tempting to set yourself unrealistic goals, remember slow and steady wins the race, so start off with small goals and before long those lbs will be melting away

Do you have Exercise on Demand through your cable provider? They have lots of different programs. Also I would say go to collagevideo.com or totalfitnessdvds.com, there are plenty of beginner recommendations there. I love Kelly Coffey Meyer, she has a DVD titled STart Here which may be perfect you. It's 30 minutes and has very easy cardio and a straight forward weight segement. You can also grow with it. As you get fitter and stronger. Good Luck to you. I only exercise at home with DVDs and the couch to 5k program.0

It isn't very convenient for at home but I have found that where walking/running would give me bad shin splints and elliptical trainer does not. I think it was the pounding, especially from running. There is no impact on an elliptical.0

Everyone has to start somewhere! There is nothing wrong with resting. Matter of fact jog 30 sec and walk a min. From there build as you improve. Find exercise that is interesting and fun! My wife has to do low impact exercises so we walk. This started becuase of me. I was in a motorcycle acident and had 4 broken ribs. My wife walked me a short bit and then put me back on the couch.She did this every night. I went from running 3-4 miles day to making down my drive way.
When going to the store find the farthest parking spot. Unless it is going to rain then park a little closer. Instead of the elevator take stairs. By the way we now we walk every night. Good luck! You can do this!0 -
I bought a Wii and then got a Wii Fit program and balance board. What I really like about it is that it's games, not just exercise. My Wii came with Wii Sports and Wii Resort Sports. You play a game, like tennis and it gets you warmed up. The Wii Fit progam offers running (in place) and you can start with short runs, at your own pace. On carpet it provides padding so it helps with the shin splints. I have moved up to a treadmill (or dreadmill as I call it) and can do a fairly brisk walk without getting shin splints now. The shin splints are frequently caused because you are trying to go too fast. Slow it down a bit and build up to a faster pace. Also, get good shoes! A good running equipment store will have the ability to assist you in getting shoes that provide the right support for your feet. Even if you only walk, you may want running shoes because they are lighter and have more ventilation, so your feet stay cooler. The Wii Fit also has yoga for strenght building, which I like because it is low impact. You won't catch this girl doing push ups, that's for sure!

I was a couch potato for a long time too before I started. I reccomend not doing something like the 30Day Shred to begin with. I did that and ended up hurting myself and having to take a long time healing. I walk as often as I can and use some small gym equipment I got free off Craigslist (healthrider). I work out until I'm tired and sweaty and stop if I feel light headed or too much pain. I try to increase my workouts in time and intensity as I go. I think I'm almost ready to try the 30 DS again

Also, I was having so much pain from trying to exercise in the beginning that I went to my Dr. She said I could just focus on trying to watch what I eat to begin with. Try to get some of the weight off first, then add in more exercise. I did that and noticed that even though I wasn't a lot lighter, I did feel like I could do more when I was eating better foods.

Here is a piece of advice I read and it stayed with me: "Don't hit pause on the remote. When you need to take a break, take it then get back into working out." I took that advice and within months was able to complete a workout without a break. It just take time. Good luck.0

i lost 120 lbs by diet and lifestyle changes only. things like walking over lunch, trying to take the stairs more. once i lost the weight i found it much easier to do workouts and became more of an athlete. i'd say focus on diet first. you can't change everything all at once.
bingo. I had to lose some pounds by adopting a new diet before I could really move without it bugging me. I started with walking. 1 mile, at my own pace after that. I'm up to jogging 4 to 5 miles now without slowing down.
1 step at a time. It's a lifestyle change that put you where you are.. it'll take another to get you to where you want to be.0 -
Maybe `chair cycling` you can do this at home.
You can sit right back on the sofa and do some cycling, or if you want to make it harder you can sit on the sofa and lean forward a little and cycle this will tone your tummy area and strengthen your back as well, but it is hard.
Hula hooping, you don`t even need one, just imagine and swivel those hips.
If you feel a bit shaky about going out walking then jog on the spot for a minute or two then stop. Lift a couple of tins of soup.
Any exercise is going to be better than none and you can work it up as you go along.0 -

I was just about to give up, yet at the last moment, you all gave me good realistic advice and options for weight loss and exercise. I just sent you a message but I wanted to say that you're not alone! I remember trying to work out to those 80s aerobics videos and feeling so much pain in my legs after only 5 minutes I got discouraged and quit trying. Once I found something I liked to do, like dancing, I didn't feel the pain anymore. I was having too much fun. And that's when my fitness journey began, over 20yrs ago! Find something you like and don't be embarrassed...we've all been there!
I've actually been trying to find the 80s and 90s videos to do. I used to LOVE Jane Fonda and Richard Simmons Sweatin to the Oldies. Now THOSE... I am pretty sure I could do a couple times a day still if I could find them haha.0 -

so many to pick from..i will just start from the beginning and go until i find the perfect one and maybe even add a few extra workouts mentioned earlier to help speed up metabolism and to get used to exercising again..Once again~ thank you all so much for your support. and useful advice...I have many new tools to use...Now~ I just have to get my calories intake right lol..will take some time since I just started changing my lifestyle one week ago....I seem to be at a standstill after losing 8 pounds, but I believe it is the exercise and probably that 8 pounds was water weight since I make sure I drink plenty of water now..Have a great day myfitnesspals0

I am a home workout junkie. I can't afford a gym membership. If you want to start building up, you could always start by walking. Build up some cardiovascular fitness. Then really invest in some weights. 3 pounds and 5 pounds. They will become some of your best friends. A website I swear by is fitnessblender.com, you can also find them on youtube. They have workouts for every fitness level. They have cardio, strength, pilates, and flexibility workouts. Plus, they really explain to you how to do the workout. Some of their HIIT workouts are amazing. They also do nutrition. Also on youtube, there is a youtube channel called befit. You get everything from a 90 day fitness plan, to Denise Austin, Yoga, Jillian Michaels.0
