  • Great that you felt comfortable posting about it. One of the things I've found most helpful is to MAKE myself enter the stuff I ate so I can appreciate how many calories, etc. it was. Usually it's not as bad as I imagine, although sometimes it's worse. But putting it in there gives me a feeling, however small, of control.…
  • The great thing about getting fit is that 80% of it is nutrition (if not more). If you get your eating under control you'll drop so much weight you won't believe it. Even without exercise. You can do it!
  • I don't know how I would deal with them, other than not see them very much. I recently read something that changed the way I decide who I'm going to interact with regularly - "You are the average of the 5 people (non-family members) who you interact with the most" - if you think of it that way, there are usually 1-2 people…
  • Mornings! Eat a little - give yourself 30 minutes or so and then make it happen. As the day goes on too many things will get in your way and give you a chance to NOT exercise. Get it done and feel great all day - no more excuses. :-)
  • The shoes are 100% marketing, nothing more - but if they make you feel better that is worth double the price I think! :-)
  • Wow! Congrats - very inspiring.
  • It's a long process - for every 3500 calories you are under (500 a day for a week) you will lose one pound....so the work that you do each day adds up....that's when you see results. The calorie target set for you is to get you to lose 1 lb a week (500 under per day). Don't be frustrated - this was day 1 in a long process.…
  • I've found that I actually need more fat in my diet and less sugar - so I'd lean towards the sugar free....probably depends on where you need to "improve" more....then should be pretty easy to decide. :-)
  • Welcome! This really is the best resource in the world I think for losing/maintaining weight - and I've tried quite a few. My advice is to shoot for a long-term loss strategy - don't expect to lose 50 pounds in 3 months....but in a year, yes! Next new years eve you can easily do it if you stick to it. Look for 1-2 pounds a…
  • This really is an amazing site - great support from others and the best tracking tool out there. My advice is to set a long-term goal - not a short-term one. Look for results in 3 months, not 3 days or 3 weeks. Log your food honestly right away (I learned so much and I thought I knew a lot already!) and get in the habit of…
  • Congrats, dude....that's what it's all about!
  • That is such a great point. The things I've learned on this site in just over a month have changed how I eat now, and forever. One other interesting thing I learned was just how small a portion of pasta is....and how normally I probably ate 4-5 portions in one serving (for a total of 800-1000 calories JUST in the pasta…
  • Good luck! Stick to it and try to get your first week in 100% (all foods) - amazing learning curve with this site....will change your life forever. And 1 pound a week is really achievable if you stick to it.
  • "Cleansing" is totally discouraged by the medical community and is a short-term answer - commit to a long-term investment, look for results in 6 weeks, 6 months......not 6 days. Quick fixes aren't the answer for long-term health. :-)

  • Try and really honestly log your foods for the first couple of weeks. It's amazing what you will learn - and it will be very motivating. It's simple math - energy in (calories) vs. energy out. :-)
  • I'd say that three things have helped me tremendously: 1. Stick to your plan (1,000 is way too few) - go with what the system tells you. It will take months, but it will work. 2. Once you get the calories nailed down, try and focus on sodium and sugar as your next challenge - I've found that if I can stay good in those…
  • Hi and good luck! I am new to the site, as well, but have used others in the past - mostly to maintain weight and get healthier in general. I think this is the best site I have ever seen for tracking, etc. One thing that really helps me - beyond just the calorie counting (which definitely helps!) is to focus on another…
