  • Same problem...I'm working the exercise into the daily routine: commuting, gardening, etc. because neither "workouts" nor the basic calorie limit are something I can do indefinitely.
  • Glad to see most people are saying yes. My rare bike accidents were when least expected. I have no memory of about 40 minutes of Sept. 23, 2010. Coasting slowly to my car at the end of the ride, in a flat empty parking lot, alone, I guess my load shifted and I went over the handlebars. I woke up in the ER holding ice on my…
  • Just dug out of a 20" heavy snowfall last week ourselves. Shovel for a while, then read, then shovel, etc. Use your legs, not your back. You earn back calories really fast, so stretch them out over days if you can. Burn food calories, not fossil fuels. I had to fend off neighbors who wanted to bring their toys over to…
  • You've gotta train that guy to arrange for your favorite exercise instead.
  • Looking good! I know what you mean about the disbelief part. I once got on the scale in the locker room so many times that a stranger I hadn't noticed asked me if it was broken or something.
  • A coma burns 1,717, according to MFP's BMR calculator. But you have to do it all day.
  • True that! I'm going to a debate watching party as a matter of fact. Now THAT'S the MFP spirit! I might just try this...
  • I'm glad someone noticed this. Usually, you're choosing not to take a break. If not, your employer is breaking federal labor law. As someone who too often chooses to work through lunch, seated, I get my workout in the commute - biking as much as possible. Planning it at that time makes it hard to avoid!
  • Or, You *could* scan and post that photo on your profie :grumble: Actually, it seems you already have the motivation. I too want to be healthier than people older than me. It's just the way things should be! I've posted a before picture and can't wait to save my reputation with the after-shot! It's helping me reach the…
  • OK, if not religious or moral, then at least Patriotic? Aren't fans of other teams anti-American? ... What??* *kidding! (disclaimer added in the interest of helping others maintain blood pressure)
  • I love the only NFL team that can't just pick up and move to some other city as a corporation looking for a better deal. All the other teams are just like cheering for Cheetos, Microsoft or GE.
  • At last, you join the rest of us. Congratulations! I read your photo from left to right at first; aren't you glad it goes the other way?
  • Ah, so you're a People person...
  • How many calories does the Happy Dance burn? Thanks for sharing this fun story!
  • Perhaps. Your point would be more helpful with more facts and less ridicule. I do appreciate the fact about sugar in juice and good juices and question all-anything diets. A little of everything in moderation, close to natural as possible, seems the most likely bet for me.
  • I was living in Poland when I turned 30. I lamented that it's all over, and a Pole, who you can always count on to put YOUR problems into perspective, said "Jeszcze nie wiek Chrystusa," or "not yet Christ's age." Meaning, I suppose, that there's still time for you to save the world. So, Happy Birthday!! ... but no slacking.
  • Black coffee one day. Mocha (skim) the next. Sometimes just with nonfat choc. milk. On the higher-calorie days, coffee is my dessert too, or most of breakfast. The variety makes it seem like more food and makes me appreciate the different tastes.

  • Right about the time I quietly joined MFP someone in my office left large 100-calorie matzo crackers and a box of 0-cal flavor for water in our break room. Over a week I ate half the matzos and tried a couple packets of the flavor (no thanks). I don't think anyone else touched them in a week and eventually someone threw…
  • Time to start being who YOU are! Take it from a gay man: only you can decide who you are, though many think they can do that for you. Can you treat it with humor? Laugh off criticisms: "Yep, That's Crazy, Obsessive Ol' ME!" Burn some calories by jogging to a florist, bring home a bouquet for Mom/Grandma no special reason…
  • Sounds like you're approaching bicycling with a winning attitude - stuck in a hard gear, so I'll work harder! Kudos! That said, as a lifelong biker, 2 hints that worked for me: 1) Take it to a bike shop and spend money for a tuneup. Borrow if you have to. Fear not; these shops are full of biking enthusiasts and I've never…
  • Average guy? How dull. Be yourself and find that middle balance. Take it from a gay guy: YOU define who you are - no one else - though plenty of people will try. You already know you aren't satisfied being too thin or too heavy, and that YOU are capable of both! Find your balance, knowing nothing in life is perfect or…
  • What's great about this site's community is that we're serious about health and wellness more than just pounds. We're all with you! Talk to many people around you face-to-face too, and they'll help you judge when you're out of balance. Don't give up on finding good counsel! And plaudits on speaking up here. That takes guts…
  • Well, let me be part of the slow growth TheNovusVita predicts. Hey there, men. It feels comfortable in this room...
  • By nature, smoking is rude because they can't consume 100% of the pollution. What other voluntary behavior enters other people's bodies without permission? Spoils the taste of their meals? We have to understand that smokers are often defensive because they would rather not face that they're trapped in an addiction.…
  • Following up my post a couple minutes ago, I thought I was quoting specifically on EdDavenport's comment. I'm new and still pretty clumsy navigating in MFP, which is why I wrote about you rather than to you. I wondered about loose skin too. I gotta say (directly), you're looking great! I hope feeling great too.
  • I stumbled on your supportive comment to chicky26, saw your profile, and am SO IMPRESSED! Damn, you have resolve! A word of support coming from you is really authoritative and means a lot. Congratulations on letting the half the man you used to be come back out! You and the rest on this thread really are a kind and helpful…
  • Hi, I'm new on MFP today. Wish I'd started at 39 instead of my current 49. Did the milestone birthday approaching inspire you as well? We both have about the same goal remaining. Mind if I tag along? I know little about the diet you're on, other than I think it makes a lot of sense. However, I did find that it very…
