  • I would love more friends who lift. I'm 34 (tomorrow) and have been lifting for just over a year. I did Strong lifts 5x5 in the fall and have been working on Strong Curves as well.
  • This! Believing in yourself is so important. Until I believed I could do it, I couldn't. Once I had it in my head that I would be successful, I was successful. Believing in yourself also lets you forgive yourself and move on when you have a bad day. I read a great article on Self Efficacy and of course I can't find it now,…
  • <--- Here are my arm results from lifting/ cross fit. This was while eating at maintenance or just under. I started doing more weight work January 2014 but didn't really pick up the intensity until September 2014 when I started Stronglifts 5x5. Then in January 2015 I started Cross Fit 2 days a week, in addition to a couple…
  • Your best bet is to keep adding calories until you find your maintenance amount. You don't have to fill it with sweets, but choose higher calorie foods that can boost your number. I am 34, 5'7 and I am still losing while eating 2250 calories a day but many calculators say I should be maintaining at that level. Its all…
  • Congrats on hitting your 27! I know it is not always easy to do.

  • In for more geeky companions! My MFP name is also my gamer tag and my roller derby name is "Nerdie Birdie." I have already finished my weight loss journey, going from 210 to 145 at 5'7. I am now focusing on body recomp, but I love supporting others on their journey. I love all things geek, but my main loves are Spider-man,…
  • Im still a work in progress and wasnt really focused on recomp until recently. I have maintainred !y weight for about a year and a half but have made the most noticeable changes to my body since since I started crossfit in January. I haven't lost any weight but have dropped a size since January. I am 5'7 and 145 lbs.
  • Truly amazing transformation. Congratulations! You are definitely an inspiration.
  • I did this while losing and it worked really well for me. I used the Fat2Fit Radio calculator, which had me eating about 2200 to hit my goal weight of 150 @ 5'7. While progress was slow, this method made transitioning to maintenance pretty seamless as I didn't have to adjust my eating habits at all. I have been maintaining…
  • I bring breakfast, lunch and snacks with me to work. There aren't really any food options close by so I pack enough food to keep me from running to the vending machine. My husband routinely makes fun of me for the amount of food I bring with me to work. Breakfast is usually a smoothie, overnight oats or a homemade parfait.…
  • You look great! Good job!
  • In was about 195 in my wedding photos and 145 in the derby photo. My highest weight was 220. This was Dec 2014 after maintaining and lifting for about a year. I maintained between 145 and 150 but am trying top drop a few more pounds now so I sit between 135 and 140.
  • Great work! You are such an inspiration
  • There is a gym at my office that I use frequently, they hold cross-fit classes 2x a week at lunch and the rest of the time I take an early lunch to get my workout in before the other classes start. I found working out at gives me more time at home in the evenings. I do a quick shower to rinse off and then eat lunch at my…
  • @psych101‌ Thanks! @Lainx20 This happened to me :( but I didn't really heavy lifting until after I had lost weight, and that helped them look less like pancakes. I am hoping with time and continued lifting they will continue to improve, but it may be too late.
  • Here are my progress pictures. I did mostly dumbbell training until Sept 2014 when I started Strong lifts 5x5. I think that's when you can see the biggest difference. Also...another derby girl here. I play in Airdrie, Alberta!
  • I also found MFP suggestions to be a bit too low for me, even at maintenance. It really is about testing out different calorie amounts and seeing how you do. You also have to remember that weight loss isn't linear. Some weeks you will lose the set amount, some weeks you will lose more, and some less. On average I lost a…
  • I'm 5'7 and went from 210 to 150 in 2013 and I have been maintaining between 145 and 150 since then. It took about a year and a half to lose 60 pounds. I took it slow, didn't restrict myself too much and exercised 5 days a week. Best advice I can give is to find what works for you and stick to it.
  • Awesome work! Congrats!
  • I have been doing Stronglifts for about 2 months and I love it, before that I did NROL Supercharged. I find lifting to be very empowering, and I wish I had started a long time ago. I always love having more friends that lift, so feel free to add me!
  • I think the problem with Stronglifts 5x5 etc on dumbbells is that you can quickly progress beyond them. But that doesn't mean that you can't use them to start with. There are a number of at home workouts that use only dumbbells, including P90x. Fitness Blender also has a bunch, as does Jefit. With Jefit you can actually…
  • I just hit 750 days today! :) I have been on MFP since Aug of 2012 and been maintaining for about a year. I am currently on a break from food logging but still check in daily. Feel free to add me. I am always looking for more friends who have similar goals.
  • I am definitely right there with you and I have been maintaining for 10 months. I will offer to lend people clothes, or make comments like "that's why I got fat" only to have people look at me incredulously. I also still feel weird when people refer to me as small or tiny... I don't feel small!
  • I was the same as you... when I was at my highest 210 lbs I was in a 12/14 pant and large shirt. Now at 145-150 I am a size 6 and small shirt. Going anywhere below 145 and I begin to look sickly skinny. Its all in your body composition. I hold my weight all over so it always looks like I weigh less than I do even. When I…
  • All I can do is tell you my experience. For me, it wasn't until I started maintaining that I was able to really change the way my body looked. At 5'7, I have been maintaining between 145 and 150 since November of 2013, and have been really focused on heavy lifting since January 2014. I had incorporated strength training…
  • I am 5'7 and 147 Lbs. I have been maintaining since November of 2013 at around 2400 calories. My actual daily intake varies between 1800 and 3000 depending on the day, but averages out to 2400. I try to do weights 3x a week and play roller derby 2x a week, plus daily dog walks of 30-50 minutes. I also try to throw in some…
  • Hi I'm Nerdie Birdie #1812 from Airdrie, Alberta and skating with the Rock View Rebelles. I have been interested in Derby for a long time, but only had the confidence to join this year. Once I joined, I kicked myself for not doing it sooner. Originally I joined MFP to help me lose weight, and I am not just focusing on…
  • I was about 195 in my wedding photo and 145 in the derby shot. I have lost 65 lbs and have been maintaining since November 2013.
  • 125 is still in the healthy BMI range, but I know for me it would be way too thin. I start to look really gaunt when I fall below 145. Feel free to add me as a friend if you guys want. I am currently maintaining, but am willing to help when I can. I try to stay between 145 and 150. Height: 5'7 SW: 210 GW: 150 CW: 148
