Hi, mouse! It seems the news feed is shut down so I came to community and look who I found. You probably know I bred, raised, showed and sold Arabians for 20 years. It's 10 years since I stopped the business, but I still have 14 horses left here, all old. I still have an inactive stallion. He's so easy he has been allowed…

I could eat whatever I wanted until I was about 35, then the fat fairy found me. Over the past 31 years I have gone from 110lbs to my current 220lbs. During these years I have lost and regained several times. I started MFP in 2012 at 210 and over 3 years I lost 50lbs and kept it off for two years. I’m back to it again. For…

I’m insulin resistant. I keep my net carbs between 80-100 grams. I make sure that most of the carbs I eat contain a lot of fiber. I also make sure that I have protein with the carbs, especially if it’s a simple carb, which I limit but still have. Protein will slow down the process of turning to glucose. I’ve been doing…

I was an adult in the 70s. There was processed food. I grew up on Wonder Bread! I think portions were smaller, whether it was homemade or a TV dinner (which I also grew up on). We weren’t as sedentary, that is true. I also think stress has something to do with weight gain and we are living in a stressful world. And there…

I have an iPhone 6. The plus just seemed to large for me, I have small hands. I don't want to carry a tablet around

I understand completely. When I started this in 2012 I had a goal of losing 50 lbs. The beginning of this year I was diagnosed insulin resistant, hypertension and hypothyroid, making me rethink my goal. 50 lb lost would put me in the middle range for overweight, but I am happy at that weight and know it is doable for me (I…

Turkey, sausage & sage dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, cranberry relish and a green salad. Dessert will be apple clafoutis and pumpkin pie with whipped cream. Wine with dinner, coffee with dessert.

I'm almost 62. I use my treadmill over the winter but otherwise my normal life keeps me active. I raised horses and still own 16, so general feeding (hay bales) cleaning and handling horses keeps me moving. I also do most of the farm maintenance and am currently painting the outside of my single story house. I've never…

Congratulations on your commitment to sobriety.

I give up.

When wheat flour is refined the endosperm is removed, which is where the nutrients and fiber are. Enriched flour has some of these nutrients added back in, but more are missing than added back. Fiber is not one of the added ingredients. This makes refined flour act as a simple carb when it's metabolized into glucose. It…

You look fantastic. Congratulations on a job well done!

Fruit has nutrients. There are fruits which are turn to glucose slowly and those that don't. I've had to learn the difference to keep blood sugar under control.
-
Actually they are not. Once refined the properties which made them complex are removed and they act as a simple carb. I don't dread 00 flour, but I shouldn't use it because it spikes my blood sugar, so I don't. If it didn't, I would use it when making pizza because it makes a great crust. I'm not all or nothing, but I do…

I call them simple carbs and complex carbs. The whites are simple, the browns are complex. Brown sugar is not complex. Brown rice is complex but acts like a simple carb, so there are some complications. I cannot eat simple carbs or rice because of dietary issues. There is life after the whites and if someone chooses to…

This is an amazing change. Congratulations.

I'm slow, 34 pounds in 2 years. The good thing is it stays off, even though it comes off slow. Add me if you want,

Which school of thought am I? I am a scratch cook who doesn't feel deprived. I believe we would be healthier without over processed and refined foods.

Wow. Just wow.

I know you didn't mean breed, but Mel's and I cannot help ourselves; if you can put in a plug for an Arabian, you do it! In all seriousness, I just wondered if jumping is a good idea if you are having more trouble.
-
I second Mel'sAuntie. Consider competitive trail and an Arabian/Arabian cross. Very athletic and sensible horses with hearts as big as all outdoors. We do have a bias, but it's based on our history.

I know I cannot because of dietary restrictions. Puts my blood sugar through the stratosphere.

Not usually, but yesterday driving past Dairy Queen and seeing the sign with the double cheeseburger basket nearly caused me to jump the curb. I have no idea why I wanted that thing soooo bad!

I'm IR, not diabetic, but I have to watch it. I have found a pita and flat bread that are very low in carbs and really high in fiber and protein. This is my bread substitution. I do eat pasta but it's also a whole grain, low carb/high fiber and I eat the 2 oz serving. I generally have a protein course as well with it,…
