  • I really, really like the New Rules of Lifting for Women. I bought the book for like $12 on Amazon, and it gives you a 6-month plan and detailed description of the exercises. I also think there's a NROL4W group here on MFP, but I'm not a member. They could probably answer questions for you. Just my 2 cents.
  • Because I don't look at my friends' diaries, and they have no business looking at mine. I do not eat "clean" and have recently stopped drinking and smoking. So by God, I will have a giant bowl of ice cream or a Krispy Kreme if I feel like it. And I don't feel the need to explain that to anyone. Plus, everyone has "bad"…
  • Yes, I was a terrified first-time skier. No, I did not learn to love it. Mild concussion on my first ski trip, torn MCL on my second. I no longer strap things to my feet that I can't control. LOL HOWEVER, I am the clumsiest person on the face of the planet, so I wouldn't use that to base anything on. I really hope you have…
  • Wonderful job!!! I love success stories!!! :D
  • I quit a month ago. Well, actually, 38 days ago. :) I put on 10 lbs, but it was the holidays, I went on vacation, and I ate SO MUCH JUNK. I think if I hadn't been in the holiday mindframe, I probably wouldn't have put on any weight at all. I'm now back to tracking my calories and working out again, so those 10 lbs will be…
  • I appreciate the feedback and information, everyone! OP, sorry I highjacked your post to diss Planet Fitness. :D
  • @ Furious: I belong to that stupid "fitness" place that hands out pizza. We have dumbbells, but no barbells. Looking into other gyms as we speak! @H7463: thanks for the clarification. I didn't mean "on" my shoulders, but "at shoulder level." But that was totally my bad. :-) I'm doing NROL4W, and I'm pretty sure the…
  • I always need new friends and getting back on the wagon this week. Feel free to add me.
  • I started NROL4W yesterday and had the same issues with the Smith machine. I don't think my form was right, so it HURT my shoulders. However, my gym doesn't have barbells. So I am really better off with dumbbells on my shoulders or goblets than the Smith if I don't have a bar? Has anyone completed NROL4W with just…
  • First, I'm so sorry for what you are going through. I lost a family member somewhat recently (August), and it actually motivated me to get back on track. I used all that emotion and put it into developing a running habit, and set a goal for myself. Not everyone is the same, but I think the exercise and setting goals…
  • DO NOT EVER be defeated just because someone runs faster than you. I am a super slow runner (14:45-ish minute miles), but I'm still a runner. When I run, I am only competing with myself, to increase my endurance and speed. Please just continue what you are doing! You will see such improvements!!! WONDERFUL JOB!!!!
  • I completed my 50 mile goal last night! I did some running and walking, but in the last several days MUCH more running than walking.
  • I gave up and did my own pace and distance after week 7. In the last 2 weeks, I have jogged an average of 25 minutes at a time. BUT on Friday, I did 30 minutes, Saturday I did a run/walk mix, Sunday I did 2-20 minute runs with a 5 minute walk between, and last night I did 28 minutes jogging. I don't think I have ever…
  • I donate blood all the time, and it's not necessarily the most fun thing in the world. But just distract yourself and you'll be fine. It doesn't take that long, and it's such a good thing to do! My grandfather had to have many many blood transfusions in the last 6 months of his life, and I know several people whose lives…
  • I ran 30 minutes straight for the first time last night!
  • I absolutely loved reading every word of this. If I can adopt 1/10 of your attitude, then I know I will be successful. Fantastic job, and thank you for sharing your wisdom!:flowerforyou:
  • I forgot to log my miles each day here. Sorry about that! But my goal is 50 miles, and as of 9/22, I hit 31. So I won't hit my goal, but I'll be much closer than I would be if I hadn't started the challenge!!! Thank you, OP for the post!
  • Wonderful! I am working to complete c25k myself, after several tries and fails! Excellent job!!!!
  • 9/2: 2.7 9/3: 2.5 9/4: 1.8 9/6: 2 9/7: 2 9/9: 2 13 so far, 37 to go!
  • I go walking/running by myself all the time. If I go hiking in a more remote area, I let my roommate know where I'm going to be. And I always have my cell with me in case of emergency. Why live in fear? I do agree with mellenorris that you need to be aware of the wildlife. The parks I frequent are close to the city, so…
  • A day late, but I'm in for 50 miles!
  • Beautiful! Wonderful job! We have similar starting weights and I'm hoping to someday get to the 100s, so it's great to see the progress pics!!!!
  • That's completely rude and incorrect. I started running at almost 300 lbs. Granted, I ran (and still run) very very very slowly, but I still run. As long as you don't have joint pain and can manage your shin splints, keep it up. :flowerforyou:
  • I didn't have a crash with it at all, but I drink coffee every day. I just didn't really care for the flavor. I prefer the taste of coffee, tea, and water to fruity drinks. To me, it was just over-priced Kool-aid. Ick.
  • @phil- that's probably why I don't like the treadmill. LOL If I'm outside, I can get away from other people. They don't have to see my big digital 3.5 mph that I'm sporting during my walk breaks, and my big flashing red 4.5 mph that's my top speed! Oh well, my fat butt is running, so it's better than not running.
  • I hate hate hate the treadmill, so I do all of my running outside. I am on Week 3 day 3 of C25K, and I don't give a rat's behind what anyone thinks of me. Totally understand not running in the heat though. Summer in the southern US is miserable. I say do what makes you comfortable, and if people look at you, they are…
  • You look amazing!!! Wonderful job! :flowerforyou:
  • It's mediocre at best. I was bored to tears.
  • For some reason, I have knee and hip pain when I use the elliptical. But I can run on the treadmill, or outside with no problem. I think the elliptical is incredibly awkward and annoying, but that's just my opinion. Go to a gym and try both, or switch it up when you feel like it.
  • Saving for later. Thanks!
