  • First photo, me (on the right) at a concert last September. Second photo, me at a concert last night. I wish John Mayer had seen me last night instead of in September, but maybe he’ll come back and I’ll catch his eye this fall.
  • I was measured for a bridesmaid’s dress in January. It was delivered today. I might need to get some alterations done.
  • Yesterday I had the day off (yay, government job on Primary Election Day!) and I decided to clean out my dresser drawers and closet. I tried on all of my jeans, my shorts, and some shirts. Put 10 pairs of jeans and all but three pairs of shorts, as well as 5 or 6 shirts, in a goodwill donation bag. Some of the jeans, which…
  • Something that I’ve thought about the past few days that’s more of a mental NSV is that every other time I’ve done this, I sweat the small stuff way too much. This time, I’m a lot more flexible. For example, while in the past I may have panicked about the idea of an impromptu lunch or dinner out, now I am finding it easier…
  • I’ve posted a few over the past few weeks but it is definitely keeping me going having something new and going, “oh! I can put that on the NSV thread!” Anyway, my new one that I just discovered is I am now on the smallest clasp on the “large” Fitbit band. I bought a bunch of “small” bands in different colors a year or so…
  • Coworker I haven’t seen since December: Your face looks thinner. Is that on purpose? Me: I can honestly say I’ve never lost weight on accident. Seriously, though, she’s the first person who has said anything. Even though it’s only been a month or so, it’s nice to know that others are seeing a change, even if the mirror…
  • I’ve only been “back at it” for about four weeks, but I’ve been walking consistently since then to prep for a treadmill stress test (I was born with a heart defect and do stress tests about every three years to make sure everything is functioning). Last time, I was in the best shape of my life and I got to Level 5. This…
  • Thank you everyone! I do have a heart defect which makes me a little nervous about excessive heat (thanks @clicketykeys for bringing a similar point up) but I appreciate the recommendations for alternative activities that are free!
  • Unfortunately, no. It's the same thing as the on campus walk in clinic. Even if I don't go to the doctor on campus at all during the year, I still pay the health fee. Same with the rec center. It's also I think $6 a day for a day pass? I think.
  • During the school year, when the rec center fee is one of the additional fees I have to pay anyway, I might as well use it. I agree to a point during the summer. There are trails by my house I utilize when it's nice out (i.e. below 75 degrees and not raining). I was just curious if people thought using the rec center over…
  • Thank you for your replies, everyone! All good suggestions. I think I'll try using a mix of outside stuff and pay for the rec center. It really is worth it. Edited because I didn't form a coherent sentence the first time
  • This is a really good point. The rec center is amazing here and I've been using it for almost 5 years so I know it super well. I'll be really sad when I don't get a gym membership for $70/academic year anymore. Just have to keep getting degrees I guess...
  • @pondee629 yeah, sorry for the confusion. I live ~15 minutes from all three options. The alternate gyms have a membership fee of about $40 each. Which is a little ridiculous the more I think about it if I'll only be using it for 2ish months. And getting used to a new place, yada yada...it's probably most convenient to just…
  • I generally just use either treadmill or elliptical when I go, if that makes a difference.
  • When one of your friends comes up to you after you've bought some appropriate fitting clothes and says, "I can actually tell that you've lost weight now!"
  • Sweet and savory combo or salt and cheese combo anything is my weakness. Right now I'm really big into pretzels and peanut butter. Luckily I've been saving enough every night to have them for a snack but it could be dangerous if I didn't weigh. I've also always been a big tortilla chips and cheese girl. I would bet that…
  • I have a heart defect, so I see a cardiologist close to my home for a regular checkup annually and one in a bigger city for a more invasive checkup annually. One cardiologist is super fit, runs marathons, eats well, etc. He started mentioning my weight as a potential issue around when I turned 16. The other cardiologist is…
  • This is a very new one for me...I'm just about at 40 lbs. lost, which is 5 away from my UGW and the lower end of what I want to maintain at. I've lost most of my weight while away at school (started at the end of July 2014), so now people are just starting to really notice and comment. I never ever thought I'd feel…
  • This is so helpful! Thank you so much! Hopefully I don't have to do this for long, as I'm going to ask for a Fitbit for my birthday, but for the time being I'm going to go about it this way. :)
  • Okay! This is what I got...568 seems high to me, but I am set to sedentary on MFP so it might be right. So would 568 be my total burn for the day so far, and that's how many I could theoretically eat back? • MFP estimated daily burn without exercise : 1570 • BMR estimate: 1255 • 1570 - 1255 = 315 • Current Calorie Burn :…
  • Hey! I'm 20 and I'm making the transition to maintenance, I'm about 2 lbs. from the upper limit of my maintenance range and 7 from the lower end. MFP estimates I'll be able to eat 1520 on maintenance before exercise, but I am set to sedentary and currently live on a college campus where I walk everywhere, so that number…
  • This. I got Peeps and Reese's Eggs in the mail today as an Easter present from my parents. 5 Peeps and one egg a day for the next few days will be my little treat. I'll log it and still be under. :)
  • Christine, I was wondering how this new method was working for you? I have about 7 pounds left to lose too, and this seems like a good way to start transitioning into maintenance, but I haven't really heard any stories good or bad on how it's been working for those doing it.
  • That's what I figured would be best. Thank you! I'm glad that some people realize there's a huge difference between knowing something is the wrong way to do it and actually having the ability to do it. 8 months of restriction is a lot, so it might take some time for me to be okay with changing my mindset, but I know this…
  • I totally understand that I've probably gone about the last 8 months all wrong. I lost weight a few years ago and did it much worse than this; think eating 600 and trying my hardest to burn all 600; avoiding a 0 net this time around was a victory for me because I did have that history of horribly disordered eating.…
  • So far, I've lost a mid size microwave and a dozen Krispy Kreme donuts. Andddd now I want a warm Krispy Kreme donut.
  • I just started this method today...how is it working for you? I only have 7 more pounds to lose, so I know the weight will probably come off much slower than it has been, but 1520 seems so much more sustainable than the 1200 I started at and 1320 I've recently been doing.
