Summer Workout Dilemma
Hi, all! I am back after a long hiatus and have been logging for a week. I am trying to get back into physical activity as well. I am lucky enough (?) to still be in grad school, meaning I have access to a really awesome campus rec center for fairly cheap (and I have to pay for it anyway--yay mandatory fees!). However, I…

Adjusting to New Meal Times
I'm finishing up my junior year of college at the moment, and I'm going home for the summer on Monday (only one final--yay!!). However, I'll be taking a summer class at a college that is a half an hour drive from my house that starts at 9 and doesn't get done until around 1 (lab and lecture Anatomy and Physiology) which…

My activity tracker doesn't sync with MFP...
Does anyone have suggestions of how to "credit" myself with the calories my Pivotal fitness tracker says I burn since it does not sync with MFP? I wear it when I work out as well, so my idea was to subtract the calorie count my HRM says I burn from my workout from what my tracker says I burn throughout the day (it only…

Maintenance Transition Mind Games
I thought it was going to be so easy to eat 1520 (AKA the maintenance for my goal weight), but I see that number and get terrified because I haven't regularly eaten that much in a long, long time. I'm comfortable hovering around my 1300-1400 gross (900-1100 net) even though I know that's completely wrong and not what I…

Maintenance Transition Mind Games
I originally posted this in the maintenance forum, but thought I might get some helpful answers here too. I thought it was going to be so easy to eat 1520 (AKA the maintenance for my goal weight), but I see that number and get terrified because I haven't regularly eaten that much in a long, long time. I'm comfortable…

HRM Margin of Error
I received a Polar FT7 for Christmas, and I love it. I use it for my walking, running, and elliptical workouts. I have heard that, although seemingly more accurate than the MFP database, HRM's can overestimate calorie burns by as much as 20%. Since I read that, I have been manually entering my exercise on MFP as whatever…

Digital vs. Dial Food Scale
I received a dial food scale from my parents for Christmas. First of all, I have to stress how happy I am that my family supports my goals and is willing to buy me things like that for holidays. I see so many posts on here about unsupportive parents and I am super grateful that mine are not like that. However, after using…

So I Finished C25K...Now What??
This morning I had my biggest NSV to date--I finished Couch to 5K! I never thought I would be able to say I could run 30 minutes straight, and definitely didn't know if I could complete the program after epically failing/giving up on it back before I started watching my calorie intake. Anyway, now that it's over, I am kind…

Day 200.
July 25, 2014 was like any other day for me. Except, for some reason, I decided to download MyFitnessPal back onto my phone. I did it with the expectation that I was going to do it for a couple days, and delete it again to make room for something more fun and that didn't require effort. How wrong I was. 200 days later, I…

Pre-Emptive Damage Control
Hi all, I'm not new to MFP (today is day 185!), but I've never really encountered a situation like this before, which may seem strange. My parents are coming to visit this weekend, and that means I'll probably eat 3 of my 6 weekend meals (2 Saturday, 1 Sunday) out. Sunday isn't an issue because we always go to Bob Evans…

Staying Sane During Finals Week
This upcoming week is finals week for my university. This will be my third go-around of college finals, but this is the first finals week I am on MFP. In the past, my stress relievers and brain breaks would come in the form of lots of snacks and Netflix. This year I'm hoping that's not the case, especially since not having…

Favorite Type of Girl Scout Cookie?
As a college student, one of my greatest challenges in life is finding a local troop to get my Girl Scout Cookie fix from. Now, I no longer need to worry about that: http://www.nytimes.com/2014/12/01/technology/online-sales-for-girl-scout-cookies-are-approved.html With that in mind, I was wondering whether or not MFPers…

Any Indiana college students?
Hey! I have been on MFP for 124 days and have lost 23 lbs! Yay! However, I am hoping to meet some more people who go to Indiana University or any other colleges in Indiana, as I am looking to have some like-minded, similar aged friends who share my motivation for becoming healthier. So, if you're a college student from…

When did you start increasing your calories?
Hello maintainers! I am still losing; I have about 12 lbs. to go to my GW and am currently set at 1 lb loss/week. However, I was considering upping my calories to the 0.5 lb loss/week range once I get down to only needing to lose 10 lbs. I know that I need to start upping them soon to hopefully make the transition into…

Bigger Meals or More Snacks?
I've noticed that since I started MFP I have begun a trend of eating smaller breakfast, lunches, and dinners, and saving many of my calories for snacking. I think it's purely psychological--with more snacks, I basically feel like I am eating all day, and that way I don't feel hungry. Anyway...it made me curious...do you…

Things you never thought you would look forward to eating?
I was thinking about this today as I headed home from class for my afternoon snack, which today happened to be an apple and Greek yogurt to dip it in...I never thought I would be excited to eat an apple and Greek yogurt for a snack. Ever. And while that wasn't my only snack today (my final leftover Halloween cookie made it…

Big Victory for Me Today!
Hi everyone! I'm Abbey, and I'm a sophomore in college. I've struggled with me weight all my life, and I've been at every end of the spectrum from eating 600 calories a day to being borderline obese and eating more for social and emotional reasons than to fuel my body. Finally, at the end of this past July, I got tired of…

What do you do with your spaghetti squash?
I tried spaghetti squash for the first time this week. All I did to it was add chicken breast, spinach, pesto, and red pepper flakes. Which, don't get me wrong, was delicious (and I'm so glad I have a yummy low cal option for pasta now!) but I know MFPers have some some delicious spaghetti squash recipes they would love to…

Non Dominant Arm Stronger Than Dominant?
I started adding weight training (pretty light, just some circuit training) into my workouts a couple of weeks ago. I'm a lefty, and I've noticed it's more difficult for me to do especially the arm exercises on my left side than it is my right. Does anyone else have this problem? I'm curious as to why it might be happening.

Have you become more disciplined?
I've noticed that since I started becoming more disciplined in watching what I eat and exercising, I have also become more disciplined across the board. For example, I don't think that before I started MFP, I would have taken the time to clean my apartment every week, read all of my reading assignments for class, and be…

What.
I had a dream about MFP. The dream went something along the lines of me hitting up McDonald's and ordering everything on the menu and logging it all and my phone exploding because I guess it couldn't process all the calories I was logging fast enough? Lol. Please tell me that I'm not the only one who's had an MFP dream. I…

First NSV! (Is that an NSV in of itself?) :)
I have been looking to Pinterest to find 30ish minute workout videos for some time now. Today, I picked some random kickboxing one that I've done several times before. Normally when I do a video, I have to stop and pause the video for about a minute to catch my breath...but I'm happy to report this is the first day I made…

Swimming Workout Suggestions
Hello all! I am a sophomore in college and am looking to join my school's club swim team. I have been working out consistently for a few months now, but I know swimming is a whole different ballgame. I haven't swam competitively in a really long time, and am just looking for some suggestions of pool workouts to ease myself…

Rest Days
How many rest days do you usually have per week? I've done something (walking or Zumba) every day for a week, and I don't feel bad (like not so sore that I feel like I can't), but I know that rest days are an important part of fitness.

Planning Out Meals
I will be heading off for my sophomore year of college next week (!) and will be living in a studio apartment, so I'll only have myself to rely on when it comes to preparing meals, and no meal plan means I'll be grocery shopping by myself as well. I know that planning meals ahead of time will save me time and hopefully…

College Student Looking to Make a Change!
Hi! I'm Abbey and I'm 19 years old. I go to college in Indiana. I have been overweight most of my life, probably since the age of 12 or 13. I have lost and gained weight several times, but since I've been in school, I've gained all of the weight (and then some) that I had lost in high school back. (That Freshman 15 is no…

Shoes!
So before I started MFP I was really only doing gym workouts--treadmill and elliptical. However, I have started doing Zumba workouts online and some circuit training DVDs that we've had forever but have never been used until now. I have Adidas running/walking shoes that are awesome for the gym, but since I've started the…

Local Restaurants
So, as we know, not every restaurant's calorie/macro counts are in the MFP database. My family and I frequently go to local restaurants in my town or towns around it. While some of them have calorie counts available, some don't, making it frustrating when we go to those places. Has anyone else been in this situation, and…

Supplements
I have seen all of the Dr. Oz and such ads for things like Garcinia Cambogia, Green Tea Extract, SlimQuick, etc...has anyone tried these supplements and seen results? I've always wondered if they actually work, and/or if there are any negative side effects with them. I know diet and exercise is always best, this is just…
