  • Don't listen to Dr. Oz. Garcinia cambogia is just the next in a long string of miracle weight loss pills.
  • Get out of there as soon as you can, however you can. Seriously. See if there's a DV shelter/resource in your area that can help you and RUN.
  • Would you even be able to eat anything else if you aimed for 400g of carbs a day? That seems like an incredibly high number to me.
  • "Lift weights". Never would have lost weight if I hadn't started doing that. I hate cardio and probably would have given up eventually if I hadn't gotten that advice...
  • I'm trying to cut it out of my diet because I think I may be gluten intolerant. It's tough. I miss toast :( It hasn't been long enough since I cut out wheat to see any kind of "progress", really, but cutting out wheat products meant cutting out a lot of carbs which ended up meaning that I'm eating fewer calories per day…
  • I doubt it's significantly healthier, the idea is just that it drains the grease right? Not that different from draining it out of a pan... But I love my little george foreman. I just use it as an indoor grill, for salmon and sausage and peppers and such. My mom also has one and she makes turkey burgers on them. Sadly I…
  • Agreeing with what waterbuglaree said, but additionally, you're not eating enough calories to "bulk up". You have to basically eat ALL THE FOOD to bulk up, seriously. The average I see cited most often (and what I aim for) is around 1g/pound of body weight (or 1g/pound of your goal weight), and even then, I've been told…
  • I LOVE the fruit flavored Chobani yogurts (pomegranate is my favorite), but I prefer to buy plain Fage and add my own flavors. It has a bit more protein in it.
  • No such thing. Try sugar free gum if you want something to munch on between meals...it helped me get over the boredom eating a little.
  • Why waste all the valuable fiber in those vegetables by juicing them? Just eat 'em, jeez. For some reason that's always my first thought when these juice fast things come up. Priorities!
  • I haven't gone through any tests yet...what happened was that I decided to try eating paleo, and suddenly, all that bloating and those stomach aches I'd been having lately were gone! Then I ate some pizza at a party at work, and felt sick that night. Same thing happened when I ate a small muffin. Then again when I had some…
  • I'm going through this right now. I feel your pain :( So far all I've really found for "buying gluten-free products on a budget" is to replace them with stuff like fruit or nuts, because a gluten-free version of a thing like say, pretzels usually costs three times as much. Is cross-contamination a problem for you? Meaning,…
  • It's just water weight. Up to ten pounds is pretty normal, and it all drops off right after.
  • There's no one "diet ruiner" food; as long as it fits your macros, eat the bread. If you're eating so much bread all the time that you're going over your calorie goal consistently, stop eating bread until you can learn to cut back. Simple.
  • I find kale is really good when cooked simply, so I usually steam it in a little chicken broth or water with some other veggies. Kale chips are also a good suggestion, just make sure to watch them because they burn easily!
  • Every time Dr. Oz comes up in conversation, my reaction ranges somewhere between "LOL, Dr. Oz" and "eww, Dr. Oz". Hate that guy.
  • Tell him if he's going to be that picky (and that obnoxious about being that picky), he'll have to cook his own meals. It sounds like he's being a bit of a manchild about this so going all or nothing might be your best bet.
  • I've never tried straight up hazelnut butter, but I have tried chocolate hazelnut butter (Nutella brand and otherwise), which is good for an occasional treat. I love cashew butter, but I don't buy it much; it can be incredibly expensive when not on sale! I'd like to try macadamia nut butter. I've never seen that one before.
  • Mostly I listen to music, sometimes audio books. If I'm doing cardio I'll sometimes watch TV or netflix. I don't understand how people can read while on the stationary bike or whatever. I have to be going impossibly slow in order to focus like that. Some people I see are studying textbooks while just pounding away on the…
  • Orlistat, from what The Google tells me, functions by preventing the absorption of fat by your body. It works, but only IN CONJUNCTION WITH diet and exercise that lead to actual lifestyle modifications. If it were me, I'd just make the lifestyle changes without the drug. Orlistat might help you lose weight somewhat faster,…
  • I probably shouldn't be surprised that people are still falling for this joke, but...
  • MFP's default protein goals are ridiculously low. Ignoring that, it's only "too much protein" if you're going way over your calorie goal every day because of your protein intake. Don't worry about it.
  • They just opened up a Trader Joe's in my area and so far I love it. I love their chicken sausage, there's a bunch of different kinds and the ones I've tried aren't terribly salty like a lot of sausages are, which was a nice surprise. I also really like their pita crackers. Gonna have to try out some of the suggestions in…
  • Short answer: no. Longer answer: No, because a variety of different factors can influence the scale's body fat measurement, including whether or not you drank/ate something recently etc. You can't trust those things at all.
  • I just put a bit of liquid in the bottom of a frying pan with my veggies, crank the heat and cover it when I steam veggies. They turn out nice and it's very quick.
  • You could do calf raises while standing in line at the grocery store or whatever, too.
  • I like this recipe: http://hilahcooking.com/spatchcock-chicken/ If you'd rather not cook a whole chicken, you can just use the spice rub on whatever pieces of chicken you like. It also goes well with seafood and vegetables. Really though, no one says you HAVE to eat chicken if you honestly don't like it. Edit: forgot to…
  • You won't turn into the Hulk just by swimming regularly. The kind of muscle gain you're thinking of takes a lot of work including eating a ton and doing a lot of resistance training.
  • I've heard their chocolate and peanut butter spreads are horrifying, but I've never tried anything from them.
  • What brianfmatthew said. If I just feel kind of congested but otherwise fine, I'll still go work out. If I have a fever or I feel weak etc., I stay home.
