  • My two favorites are 1 Tbsp of almond butter and some kind of fresh fruit -or- fresh pumpkin puree, cinnamon, and a touch of real maple syrup.
  • I also drink almond milk instead of dairy milk. Less calories that the skim dairy version and I think it tastes yummy, especially in coffee and on cereal.
  • That's tough. I think change just makes people uncomfortable. We get used to our friends and family being a certain way. I think this comes up especially when the person has something they really wish they could change about themselves (whether it's losing weight or something else in their lives that make them unhappy).…
  • I am obsessed with their eggplant parmesan stack (frozen entree). Definitely take the time to heat it in the oven rather than the microwave if you can. :)
  • Cereal! I could eat 4 or 5 bowls in a row at night without blinking an eye. Or peanut butter...even though it's not a bad food for you, I've started eating it out of the jar. No more peanut butter in my shopping cart for awhile. :(
  • You should read "The End of Overeating." It's written by Dr. David Kessler, who used to head the FDA. I'm still in the middle of it, but it's an incredible book. It talks about the science of addiction and the types of chemical reactions that occur in the body that lead to an eating binge once you allow yourself that first…
  • I really love Tera's Whey (available at Whole Foods). They make individual packets too. The dark chocolate and the Bourbon vanilla are both delicious! http://teraswhey.com/store/3-single-serving-packets
  • Definitely a good fruit! Very filling. One interesting thing I learned though was that the sugar content changes depending on how ripe the banana is so if you're trying to stay low on sugar, don't let it get too ripe! :)
  • This is fun to think about and has given me lots of ideas! Some of my favorites are: 1) Oatmeal 2) Almond milk 3) Apples 4) Almond butter 5) Low-fat cottage cheese 6) Yogurt (any kind with low sugar) 7) Goat cheese 8) All kinds of spices! The no-cal way to make your food taste really good. 9) Tara Whey packets (my new…
  • I've always wanted to try Bikram yoga. After reading how much you liked it, I'm going to start looking for deals in my area. :)
  • That sounds incredible! I'm definitely going to try that. I'm addicted to part skim ricotta. :)
  • I agree about ricotta cheese! I'd never had it outside of pasta either until recently. Now I use it as a spread on english muffins (sometimes I do ricotta on one half and almond butter on the other) for breakfast. This morning I tried it on Nature's Path organic wildberry buckwheat waffles and it was amazing! I use the…
  • The confusing thing is that an ounce is a measure of both weight and volume and the two are NOT equal. An ounce of liquid (volume) = in this case, yes 1 cup = 8 oz so 1/4 cup = 2 oz An ounce (weight) = I think this is most likely what your pasta box is referring to, not volume. Therefore, you really can't equate a weight…
  • CONGRATULATIONS! That's a really good NSV! :)
  • Great job!
  • Hi Stephanie! I'm also a science nerd (genetics). We have a lot in common. I am also 5'4" and at my heaviest, I was around 186 lbs. I've been working towards my health goals since ~2002 so it's been a long road with many bumps along the way. I think MFP is the best tool I've ever found and you're right that the people on…
  • First of all, holy cow on running that quickly on that incline! So impressed. :) Second, thanks for sharing that story. It really illustrates the correct attitude towards health and fitness (and it was hilarious). Keep it up!
  • BMR is how many calories your body would need to run (breathing, brain function) if you were to do LITERALLY NOTHING all day (i.e. lay in bed and sleep). Then you have to choose how active you are on an average day (MFP has multiple options for this: sedentary, lightly active, etc). That will give you how many calories you…
  • BIG CONGRATULATIONS! That is a great story. I'm always especially impressed by the stories of those who lost the weight and managed to maintain all of their hard work . You are an inspiration!
  • BIG CONGRATULATIONS!
  • I agree that 1290 calories seems really low for a man. That is less than my calorie goal per day and I am a 5'4" woman. I would reset your weight loss goals for a more reasonable number of calories per day. Undereating can be just as detrimental to your health as overeating.
  • I LOVE Ellie Kreiger! I have two of her cookbooks and use them all the time! Her recipes are insanely delicious and creative, but they don't use a ton of really rare/expensive ingredients. Totally recommend it.
  • If anyone is looking for a great kettlebell studio in the St. Louis area, Studio RKC is great!
  • Congratulations! That's amazing progress!
  • Great job! It's a very big deal because it shows you that you can do it. Keep it up!
  • The best advice I've ever heard is that you have to remember that the cupcake/pasta/chips (or whatever you are considering indulging in that you really shouldn't) is not the last cupcake/pasta/chips on earth. You will have another chance to eat that food again so if you're really not hungry at the moment or you've already…
  • I just discovered the yummiest combination for breakfast. Cottage cheese, fresh pineapple chunks, and a little bit of granola. I've had it the past two mornings!
  • The BMI milestones were a really big deal to me too because finding out I was in the obese range was what motivated me to start getting healthy in the first place. HUGE congratulations to you!
