  • Read this blog post, and the comments. I found it to be very helpful. http://www.shutupandrun.net/2012/06/another-running-tragedy-how-to-stay.html
  • I'll be 29 in a few weeks. I get mistaken for a college student more often than I'd like - fun when I'm getting ID'ed at the liquor store, but when I'm out with my kids it's a little annoying!
  • Mine was higher than I expected (it was either 1800 or 1850, it was a couple of years ago and I don't remember the exact number) but I was also breastfeeding my daughter at the time, who was around 10 months old. At around that age of the infant, women expend about 250-300 calories a day from breastfeeding, which would put…
  • Where are you getting your info from?! Not even CLOSE. A standard 750ml BOTTLE of red wine has fewer calories than a Big Mac. Not to mention there's no heaps and gobs of saturated fat and cholesterol...
  • I always swore I'd never drive a minivan either, but my MiL gifted her old one to us when she finally got a regular car...and honestly? I'm sort of in love with having one. :ohwell:
  • Now that I've gotten through the whole thread...there's NOTHING WRONG with NOT wanting kids. Nothing at all! Do people change their minds? Yes, sometimes, and that's part of where the pressure from family and friends comes from. They know of so-and-so who suddenly decided one day that they did want kids after all, or…
  • I'm sorry, but first off, wanting kids does not make a person insane any more than not wanting them makes a person insane. Both are valid choices. Secondly, there is a lot a woman can do with life after kids than just be a mom. I know some women who have had kids who have also done some pretty incredible, amazing things in…
  • Wow, you sound really loving. So that daughter you shipped off to live with her dad no longer counts as having been your first child? Sounds like she's better off with her dad.
  • I was diagnosed with RA two years ago this July, but I've been having symptoms since my late teens. (I'll be 29 in August.) Ask for the anti-CCP test when you see the rheumy, if you didn't have it done in your initial bloodwork. It is the most specific diagnostic test for RA currently available. Co-morbidity (having more…
  • I joke with my husband about how I was "young and hot" when we met - we were 20 and 21 when we met, and I was about 150lbs (I am 5'10). He was active duty Marine Corps at the time, but wasn't really a fitness nut. He is 5'11 and was probably 175-180lbs, and wasn't cut or anything, but was in decent shape. I have been up…
  • I would say lightly active, and don't eat back exercise cals on the F2F plan. Lightly active, by their definition, is moderate activity 1-3x/week. Walking 2 miles in the morning definitely counts toward that.
  • I also agree that there is nothing wrong with eating fats - your body needs fat to perform its necessary functions. Aim for 30% of your calories to come from fat, particularly healthy, unsaturated fats.
  • Go to Fat2FitRadio.com, calculate your body fat % (if you don't already know it - the military formula is a good, easy one to use there), then your BMR. It will tell you how many calories to eat each day at your goal weight, and suggests to eat that way now. Eventually you will be at that goal weight. I am 99% sure that…
  • I ran a warm, muggy 3.5mi today in 39:30, so I think I should go for it. I will probably be faster on race day anyway, I would think.
  • I have no problems doing squats and lunges with free weights, working out on my own, but when I tried to do Ripped in 30 (similar to 30DS), it was awful on my knees. I only made it through 3 or 4 days before I stopped. I have done Jillian's Making the Cut program out of her book, which includes lots of lunges and squats,…
  • I think you could definitely cut out the elliptical on days that you do 30DS - too much cardio isn't always a good thing, and JM videos are more strenuous cardio. Also, cut out the processed (prepackaged) foods and substitute with some higher fiber, higher protein foods. That should help as well. You're welcome to check…
  • I am 28, and if I were single I would. My answer would have probably been the same a few years ago too.
  • I would switch your activity level to active. I'm a waitress, in school (I try to take walks around campus when I have breaks), and have two small children. I have a FitBit and I usually average 10,000 steps per day (some days are around 8000, others as much as 16-17000) so I have my activity level set to "active." I had…
  • Oh, and I'm not saying that I would normally just burn a ton of calories and not eat back at all...but I'm still not all that hungry after how much I ate yesterday, so I figure being under my net for today isn't the end of the world.
  • I just continue on as usual, most of the time. Yesterday I went beyond the binge, so today I am going to be pretty far under since I burned a lot of calories working out. I figure it will balance out for the week. I always look at things in terms of the whole week and not just one day to the next. For this past week, I was…
  • I don't let a day here and there make me feel guilty. I'm on track for my goals, and that's what's important to me. As for one meal sabotaging hard work, maybe for that person it's a slippery slope to go off track at all.
  • Bull, mine is 35% right now and it has come down 2% in the past 3 weeks from fueling properly and working out. If I didn't fuel properly, I would end up decreasing my lean body mass, which is the last thing I want!
  • It cracks me up when people say things like, "Sure you can lose weight eating VLCD, or else people in concentration camps would have been fat." Because the goal is to eat like an Auchwitz prisoner? As if its a good thing to starve yourself? OP, don't say that eating more doesn't work. It does. I eat nearly 2400 cals a day…
  • I'm not saying that type of relationship can never work, cause it does work for some people...but I'd hardly say that everyone's happy here. Sounds like your marriage is ****. Don't you think that because you both fool around on the side that she could think it's okay to lie to you about "less serious" things, since sex is…
  • Exactly. I am married to someone who struggles with depression, and compulsive lying - always when he is totally overwhelmed. (When I get overwhelmed I turn into a mess of anxiety, so neither of us is perfect.) We work on the issues we have because apart from those, our relationship is pretty damn good and we are happy. I…
  • Okay...not trying to be rude, but I am going to guess that if you feel it's necessary to pay $10/month to see where she is, then there are bigger issues in the relationship than her not going to school one day. (If you were using it for safety reasons, like if you lived in a remote area or something, I would guess you…
  • If your relationship is a good one and this is the only flaw, then counseling, counseling, counseling. If this is just the icing on the cake, I would take a long hard look and make some decisions.
  • BTDT. It's not necessarily because they're doing something they shouldn't...sometimes it's simply not wanting to admit failure at something. I'd have a long talk and then plan on working on rebuilding your trust and letting them work on whatever it is that made them feel lying was the only option...there's life after…
  • You all do know that wearing two sports bras (especially one that is purposefully too small) compresses your breast tissue, which can actually cause it to lose elasticity, right? Save your ladies and shell out the $50 for a high-quality bra designed for larger busts.
