Lightbulb moment...thanks Steve! Looking at my diary today, my sodium intake was dire, at only 690mg. In fact, I need to take better care of all my micro's. I'll work on ensuring I'm eating more salt and vitamins. Maybe a large portion of steamed veg, with a teaspoon of salt will help. Thanks for pointing me In the right…

I suppose it's possible. The thing is, I've always drank this much water - it's normal for me. Things seem to have changed since I've been eating fewer calories and since I've been doing this extra running.

Thanks for the input everyone - I'll come back to this after I've done some more research, as i thought calories burned was related to HR. Thanks, Dale

Either: 1. increase your calorie intake for a couple of weeks (i'll leave it for others to explain how/why this works - i'm no nutritional expert). 2. Swap some of the cardio for some resistance training.

Muscle is weighs more than fat. Fact. Concentrate on your measurements and ignore the scales - weight is irrelevant.

When i finally get round to doing the deed (we decided a house to live in was more important), my girlfriend decided that she wants to give me something of equal value in return. The idea is she gets something she wants, I get something I want. What could be more fair than that? Equality and all... It also means we will…

People will always resist change. The old MFP interface was old and outdated. Surely you guys realise they update one thing at a time. There will probably be other changes over the coming weeks and months, so you had better get used to it!

Thanks for the tips everyone. Not really a misconception. I know that hulking up takes a lot of time and effort, I was merely stating that my intention was to tone up and not become a bodybuilder. I'll give the StrongLifts 5x5 a go for a few months and see how that goes. Cheers

What an absolutely epic weight loss - Well done to you both!

Net calories is your daily goal calories plus your exercise calories. Example, if you were aiming for 2000 calories a day and did 200 calories worth of exercise, your net calories would be 2200. Many people find it hard to eat to their net calories if they are doing lots of exercise. My target is 1730 calories a day and i…

upper limit is about 1800 a day for me atm.

To be honest, you should start trying to impact on how he currently eats and exercises! Just do it subtly. Challenge him to log his food and exercise for a week and see if he thinks what he is doing is healthy at the end of it. Then explain that you do not want to mimic his calorie intake as you want to live a fit and…

OP, how are you getting on? I have successfully got back into my exercise over the course of the week. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday i did 1 mile runs. Thursday a 10 mile bike ride. Friday I had a rest. Today I ran 5k, and tommorow i'll likely do another 10miles on the push bike. I have been stretching my calf/soleus as well…

Fair enough. Good luck!

I had plantar fasciitis at the start of the year, it was an absolute nightmare. Like you I could not walk for weeks, let alone do any kind of exercise. I went and bought a new pair of running trainers, after having my gait and running style analysed. I would highly recommend you do the same, from a local running shop. They…

Much of the food in today world is processed. Find me some chocolate or sweet which is readily available on the shelf which hasn't bee processed. Perhaps you are reading too much into dieting? Just putting it out there that stress and anxiety can cause loss of appetite as well as weight gain. I don't know you, but its a…

Fasting is going to do you absolutely no good. Not eating for 18 hours WILL put your body into starvation mode, which means your body WILL store everything you eat as fat. Like others have said, just eat a balanced and health diet and the fat start to go away. Weight loss is like a marathon; every step you take is a step…

To be honest, if I were you I would work towards your half marathon in April. Especially as you are a new distance runner. Once you are able to do 10 miles (about 16k) then maybe think about doing ripped in 30 too. If you rally wanted to do ripped in 30 as well, do it on a day you are not running. Don't push yourself too…

I have suffered from migraines since I was about 13 years old. I used to have at least once a month, and I would often have more. Worst one I ever had I ended up in hospital on a morphine drip. I just kept having the migraine cycle over and over. That was about 3 years ago. Migraines are essentially a chemical release in…

My girlfriend teaches combat and attack several times a week. She loves it.

Generally how long you rest for depends on how you feel. At a minimum always have a day of rest from running. Sometimes, and particularly if you havent ran in a while, you will get delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS), which will take 2 or 3 days to go away. I wouldn't like to run with DOMS. Dale

First of all, weight loss is a gradual process. Your will not loose weight over a matter of days, it takes weeks. Next, don't worry about going over on protein. Protein is good for muscle mass and is much better than, for example, fat. If you are under on carbs and calories then how a bout a sugary snack during the day?…

Hi, Because when you exercise you burn calories. If you are only eating 1200 calories a day and you are not eating the calories burned during exercise then your defect will likely be huge. So, for example if you burned 1000 calories running, you would need to eat 2200 calories that day. Otherwise your body will go into…

I have been logging daily since joining a couple of weeks ago. Anyone, feel free to add me, I could use motivation too! especially while i get through my current injury! Dale

Meh, they are just jealous. Anyone with this attitude is not worth your time or 'friendship'. Just ignore it and move on.

The only reason I found it out was because when I first started running I would tighten my my shoes up too tight. After a mile or so calves would be burning and i would have to stop, take my shoes off and let the circulation get back to normal. You couldn't just run through it. Once I learned not to over tighten my shoes I…

Not sure about my future self, but to my past self I would say don't give up competition swimming and football! Don't get addicted to Dr Pepper and computer games!
