I only cut down on sugars with metformin for GI issues. I had tried low carb but actually it can be super unhealthy and make you REALLY sick, as it did me. It's not a natural or healthy way to eat and there isn't medical support behind it and I wish people would stop pushing it as a cure because it isn't. Foods with…

I went to the doctor, got the proper medication (metformin) and now just eat standard low calorie without counting carbs. I am losing steadily, although I am now supplementing with inositol and dci to see if that speeds things a little.

We absolutely do not. Studies done show it ranges on average from 300-500 calories lower than the average woman.

The only thing that finally got me off soda was homebrewed iced tea. It has some caffeine. but significantly less than soda; it still tastes good (I absolutely loathe drinking nothing but water, don't care what anyone tells me), and is lower in sodium. You can choose to drink it unsweetened or with artificial sweetener to…

Ask your doctor. Eat vegetables (not starches.)

I just started week 6 this morning. I found that at first I had to take more than one week to do the "weeks". But once I got to about week three, that amount of time shortened. Now I am doing it three days a week and moving up along with the program as written. The first two times I tried it I got really sick. I may have…

It can take a long time. Don't be seduced by the thirty million internet stories about people who "lost 100+ pounds in six months". They probably are fake stories or are people who will put the same amount of weight back on just as fast. Don't give up! Remember, you're making lifestyle changes, so make changes you can live…

I hope I never go off my meds personally. I had PCOS when I was skinny, so if they take me off the meds after I lose weight I will just gain it all back again.

Metformin + sugar will make you very sick. If this is not a wetformin issue and you have cut out sugar then suddenly eat some, you probably spiked your blood sugar and made yourself sick. This used to happen to me a lot when I was a little girl. It's kind of interesting in retrospect that I had trouble handling sugar even…

I have doubts, serious ones, over the use of "paleo" or other low carb diets as "reatment" for PCOS> There is not actually much in the way of studies to support it, only one small one I ever found that suggests women with PCOS lose a tiny amount more weight on a low carb diet than on a typical low calorie diet. I also had…

MFP's calculator re what you burn is a joke for older women in particular. If I ate what it told me to plus exercise calories, I would gain until I turned into a gigantic whale.

Yes.

Mostly what others are saying here: diet soda, green tea, fake sugar packets, sugarless gum, vitamins, medicine, spices like basil. At the very most those could possibly add up to 20-30 calories a day and that isn't going to make or break a day and would just be annoying filler.

Is this one of these cases of "I'm asking for advice and will only listen to the answers I want to hear"? Okay then.
-
Don't put a date on it. Just focus on the end goal and let it happen in the time it can happen according to your body's capabilities.
-
You can lose weight quickly or you can lose a lot of weight long term, you can't do both. Pick one.
-
Hmm, "my licensed practitioner, whom I pay, gave me a plan and I don't like it so I went to the internet for advice so they could tell me what I wanted to hear". Okay.

She is not changing my PCOS dx, I'm just confused about it when I read all these things that are supposedly associated with it bloodwork wise that I don't have. I've had more protein and less carbs in my diet in recent years, although I can't hack a real ketogenic diet, it makes me feel sick.
-
Yeah I have super low Vitamin D levels and have to take supplements.
-
idk what a WOE or a SAD WOE is, heh

MFP counts way too high for some people. If I ate what it told me to eat to lose 1 pound a week, I would gain weight. Trial and error.
-
tl:dr: MFP tells you to eat too much if you are an older woman. I only ever lose if I eat less than what it claims I should eat.

Salads do terrible, awful, horrible things to me. Heh. I totally hear ya.
-
Yeah, it says that on the info for my blood pressure meds (spiro). It's probably part of why keto made me sick and I won't do it, my heart rate dropped really low. So I just avoid sugars.

The whole "drinking 8 glasses of water a day" thing is a complete myth. Understand this - a TOTAL FABRICATION. It is based on a common misunderstanding of a much older report based on the TOTAL amount of water human beings need in a day. This amount of water includes the water you get from all food sources and beverages.…

I have no idea what to tell you I'm Jewish Tell me what to do with these four cups of wine and multiple course meals over several nights though :D :D :D

Changing your diet dramatically will change your periods... when I was young I became vegetarian for a while (terrible idea but I didn't know any better, oops) and I had a lot of changes then too. I can't do keto because it seems to mess up my heart rate, not sure why. It goes really low. Not sure what I'm doing wrong or…

I lost about 60-70 pounds out of desperation and accidentally falling into an IF style eating pattern before ever hearing about IF. I was SO overweight that this didn't even bring me close to a goal weight, but was enough to get my regular cycles started again - mixed blessing, haha. It's been a real struggle since then…

I tried pretty much everything including a lot of different diet restrictions, you don't mention are you seeing a doctor? I've recently been put on metformin and I had to fight to be put on it and now I'm wondering why I wasn't before. I'm still having to diet as I was before but now dieting is ACTUALLY WORKING. She gave…

This is the perfect comment on these terrible forums, haha
