  • That is a whole heck of a lot of steps for something users need to do frequently throughout the day. This update is quite unfortunate, and continues to degrade the user experience needlessly.
  • I measure it using inches not cm because then it's a lower number. Okay, seriously, best move is to weigh it. Pro tip: - Put the container on a food scale, press "tare" to zero it - Scoop out your ice cream and put in the bowl - Now the amount showing on the scale is how much to log, and you can safely lick the spoon
  • To actually try to answer the question you asked: Don't try to cut out junk treats entirely. You can't keep it up forever, and eventually you will give in and feel guilty, which can lead to feelings of failure, and giving up entirely (and needlessly). Instead, enjoy those treats in moderation so you get your "fix." Also,…
  • This. Who cares what somebody else thinks if you're losing the weight? Just keep losing the weight, never bring it up again, and let the results speak for themselves.
  • Also some helpful info here from a respected source: http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/muscle-gain/whats-my-genetic-muscular-potential.html Bottom line is we all have a maximum genetic muscular potential. The sooner you lift, the sooner you start down the road toward whatever your genetic maximum will be.
  • Yes grasshopper. But it was the right answer. You're overthinking it.
  • Sorry you didn't want me PMing my nether regions pic. I'll post them here instead:

  • Crunchy yuminess, and really good macros!
  • I'm hypothesizing that the strike was for dropping an 'F' bomb, not an editorial statement on the content of OP's post. The 'F' bomb was OP's last post in the thread. I'm not agreeing or disagree with MFP's policy, just pointing out that OP can't respond.
  • I agree. We've all been stuck talking to boors, with some people better than others at bowing out gracefully. Heck I try to stay out of the forums because it's like wading through molasses. But what pulled me into the thread at least was OP's lashing out at people who disagreed with him. This being a public forum, that's…
  • You never even implied you didn't like what anyone had to say?!? Life fail.
  • Hey, if you don't like what we had to say, well you know where the door is. No one forced you to post in a public forum (yet you cared enough to anyway). It's an internet forum in a subsection with the words "chit-chat" in it, so people might respond and you might not like their answer. Deal with it. Or get out. The choice…
  • One exercise? I'd alternate between weighted crunch on stability ball one day: http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/RectusAbdominis/WtBallCrunch.html ...and weighted crunches the next: http://www.exrx.net/WeightExercises/RectusAbdominis/CBKneelingCrunch.html
  • Just break up with him. (Sorry, force of habit around here  )
  • I completely agree. Some parent are so overprotective and ridiculous, not willing to let their kids die so that others might enjoy complete flexibility in their choice of lunchtime condiments.
  •
  • Haven't had time to read the thread, but just responding to the OP, try this link: http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/1080242-a-guide-to-get-you-started-on-your-path-to-sexypants Lots of good stuff in there!
  • Yep, ~25 lbs in ~17 weeks. 9 lbs of water and glycogen in wk 1, and pretty much 1 lb a week after. Have been calibrating TDEE to dial in 1 lb/wk. It's been an average p-ratio of 65%. I figure not too bad considering my age (46). Back in my 20's did a 35 lb gain with p-ratio in the 80-90% range, but this ain't then.…
  • Great stuff gang, many thanks. It seems like cutting 20% back to 10% is a pretty long haul and risks performance loss. I'm thinking instead of continuing the bulk up to 17%, then down to 12% instead of 10%, since my last cut the P-ratio was a lot worse under 12%. For now I'll probably do a couple-few cycles between 12-17%,…
  • Fantastic info SideSteel, many thanks!
  • I vaguely remember wearing tight lycra bike shorts to the gym in LA in the early 90s all the time. Wasn't unusual then. Junk wasn't. that visible, and it was fairly comfortable. Back then we all did isolation exercises and laughed at the old guys still doing compound exercises like from the 50's. Everything is cyclical.…
  • Perfectly normal, happens all the time. Have you had a lot of sodium lately? I usually gain 5 pounds for a couple-few days after eating pizza. The sodium causes your body to retain water. Edited to add: you went to the gym to weigh. Did you eat/drink first? That's an added variable. Best to weigh yourself when first waking…
  • When I hit my target weight, I pretty much had TDEE dialed in, and was eating 500 calorie below per week. I wanted to switch to surplus to add muscle mass. I followed SideSteel's advice from an old post, and went from TDEE-500 to TDEE-250 for a week. Then TDEE for a week. Then TDEE+250 for a week. Then TDEE+500 (and stayed…
  • ^^^^^ This is excellent advice. Check out that link, and completely ignore the horrible advice you've been getting from your friend and cousin.
  • This is really good advice. bodybuilding.com has a pretty good section on taking measurements. It shows you where to measure so that you're consistent, and even has videos to explain. I take measurements too, and it tells me a lot more about what's going on than just a number on the scale. Good luck!
  • 28 lb in one year should be fairly straightforward. I might recommend setting your calorie goals to lose 1 lb per week. 0.5 lb means less margin for error, in case you don't weigh/measure/record food intake properly. Start here, this will map out everything you need to know:…
  • I strongly agree. Surgery is a Big Deal. We take it for granted because it's so commonplace, but your body is about to go through some serious stuff and needs fuel to fix itself. Healthy eating means managing your weight to focus on long-term health. And the very best thing you can do for long-term health is to give your…
  • Lots of people are likely to recommend Quest bars (myself I love 'em). Just a headsup, they have a LOT of fiber, and many people report difficulties after trying them for the first time. Might not be the best idea for an 84 y.o. Pure Protein is another option--decent taste, only 2-3g sugar. Think Thin has 0g sugar. Haven't…
