I just posted before I saw this. I didn't remember what they were called.

Jockey has some great, very thin shorts to wear under dresses and such. I love them.

Agree with that. Or use lemon juice as a base to make your own: little bit of olive oil, fresh garlic and herbs or dijon mustard. Edited to add: If you want a creamier dressing, you can also whip in some tahini (sesame paste).

Tracking on here and realizing my problem was quantities.

I like both, but I will use a lot less mayo in a sandwich than I would peanut butter. I think both are ok in moderation. Now, making your own mayo - or even better aioli (garlic mayo) - that is sooo good!!

Hello all! New here, living in Toronto. Real age 40 something, but still go by my pretend age of 35 (picture my 10 year old daughter's eye roll right here). Still cool right? ;-)

Same here! Although i only record my weight once a week. I find it interesting - sometimes mind boggling! - to see the daily fluctuations.
-
I weigh every morning - just because I like to see! - but record weekly.

Research about this is interesting. I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes when pregnant with my daughter. My hospital - which also has a diabetes clinic - was doing a research on people with gestational diabetes over 10 years postpartum. The intent was to see if gestational diabetes may be an indication of a higher…

Sometime you need a wake-up call to get things done.

I saw this post as sitting back to watch both sides hotly debate the issue. Not about finding amusement in people's medical condition.

Just larger quantities. I didn't eat junk food or drink cola. No white bread/pasta/processed foods. Whole grains, lots of fruits and veggies but I did and still do love a nice fresh bagel or french bread. Home cooked meals mostly. Coffee in the morning - no sugar - and water during the day. A glass of wine a few times a…

Does insulin resistance cause obesity or does obesity result in insulin resistance?

Just read the thread, now i get it :-)

I used to think Tonic water was great until I realized how much calories it contains. Whoa!

Carbs is what I crave! Bagel, crusty bread, yum. I try to indulge - a little - because if i deprive myself completely or feel too hungry I will never keep this up. Crazy how different that time of the month gets!

I don't believe it's because they don't care about us or our kids, i believe it's because they don't care enough about themselves.

Scary thought isn't it? I used to try to tell my husband he needed to change his habits before it was too late. Then I tried to tell him that it would be easier to change gradually by choice then to have to make a sudden change because of a health crisis. Now I just let him make his own choices. He's an adult and I can't…

You can't make him change his eating habits, he has to decide to do so himself. I have the same thing in my house. My husband eats junk, drinks cola and doesn't exercise. I cook healthy and he can do what he wants. If he doesn't want to eat what I make he can make his own. I am not his mother or his coach. Our daughter is…

That is a great post. Thank you.

I personally cannot run or do high intensity exercise after eating. Walking is fine. I do need some fuel so I will have a light snack an hour before a workout.
-
Thanks all with the comments! Very helpful.
-
Same. I will not eat much before an intense workout or run. A light snack a hour before if needed (some nuts, a banana). When I play golf I will bring a granola bar or Cliff bar.
-
 I would be more concerned about spilling my coffee.

So, I shouldn't overly worry about whether I have a higher calorie deficit on a high calorie burn day just because I am not that hungry afterwards and not worry about eating a little more the next day if I feel really hungry? I guess I shouldn't look at my calorie deficit only on a daily basis.

If it's really ripe, I mash it with some lemon juice make a spread. Otherwise, in salads, wether it tomato/avocado/boconcini with balsamic vinegar and fresh basil (my daughter's favourite!) or lately on top of a kale salad.

I think there is a big difference between low-carb and low glycemic index (GI). Your body needs some level of carbs but some are better than others. Low GI foods does not mean they have no carbs it means they don't convert into sugar as quickly which would cause a spike in blood sugar. I started going to low GI foods when…

Well said.

Ok. it's still all a little confusing to me but I understand better. I am going to look at 2 things: 1. The 1,554 dally calories as calculated by the TDEE calculation website, which assumes 3x per week exercise and a 20% reduction in calories. 2. Will lower my calorie goal on MFP to 1,416 which is "couch potato" mode on…
