  • I have done both, and here is what worked for me. I love working out at home. I have an elliptical and an exercise bike. Also have a treadmill that I borrowed from my parents, but I really don't use it, because it bores me. I have a driveway that I walk up and down. 12 laps around my driveway is a mile. I have adjustable…
  • I tried the Dukan diet a few years ago...it is basically very similar. You eat nothing but basically protein and low carb veggies. I lost weight, but I felt like total crap in the process. No energy for working out. Not enough fiber...and I will let your imagination figure out what went wrong there..lol, and to top it all…
  • I am 39, from the south, and am 6 months into my weight loss journey and have lost a little over 60 pounds. I have a long way to go and do not really know what I want my goal weight to be at this point, but I believe I will know it when I hit it. Feel free to add me. I am on here everyday, and am glad to help with anything…
  • Hi, Kevin! You have a great attitude, and you will succeed. You have a good motivator--getting off of meds, and you are in a great place with a lot of knowledgeable, encouraging people who will help. I have been on here for a little over 6 months, and I have lost 60 pounds. I have quite a ways to go, but I am a lot closer…
  • I will workout throughout the holidays, even though it will include traveling out of state for a few days. As long as I have my running shoes, my laptop so I can find workout videos on the internet, and my dumbells, I am good to go to do about anything. I can still give 45 minutes to an hour a day for myself to exercise to…
  • This time is different for me because I have owned the mess I created and decided to change it. I used what typically would have been self hate, and turned it into a focus to be fit and healthy. I wrote down my goals, my former excuses and how I was going to overcome them, and I made a pact with myself to be honest with…
  • I am planning on working out. I have no excuse, since I have an elliptical, an exercise bike and a library of workout dvd's at home. Actually, this thanksgiving, I am thankful to workout--because last year I was too busy being fat and lacked the confidence and self -esteem to do a lot of the things I do now. Thankful I am…
  • So incredibly happy for you!!! I pray that all will go well and that you will have a very speedy recovery! Thanks for sharing your great news!!
  • Thanks for the comments and suggestions. I am proud of what I have accomplished, and love how I feel now. I probably need to pull out some old pics to get a grip on what i have done...and a few new clothes could be a great thing. Thanks for the ideas.
  • My plan this year is to savor how much better I feel being over 50 pounds lighter than I was last year. Our family usually goes out to a restaurant for Thanksgiving, since everyone works and no one has time to bake a turkey. The good thing about that is I know what will be offered on the buffet and can plan ahead, and…
  • Nothing works unless you add cardio and eating healthy and within calories. If you are not doing that, nothing will work and /or you will gain what you lost back as soon as you stop. There is no magic pill...and even if something helps with appetite, you still have to work out and eat healthy.
  • Congrats!!! So happy fot you and celebrating with you!!
  • Congrats and I know it is coming soon, but it is so hard to wait...at least for me!! I am cheering for you and can not wait to share in your joy when you reach your goal. I too, feel my weightloss as a faith journey and the fact that I just got off my 40th seems like a miracle in itself. I have so much to go, but everyday,…
  • My podiatrist had me stretching my achiles tendon by sitting in a chair, rolling up a towel, and placing it under the arch of my foot. Then take the ends of the towel and lift your leg with it extended straight out in front of you. Pull on the ends of the towel until you feel a good stretch (yes, this hurts, but it will…
  • I have the polar FT4, and love it. I have found that my calorie burn is really elevated with the mfp database. I did not eat back exercise calories and just logged them as 1 calorie--and eventually, my weightloss came to a halt for a couple of weeks because I was not eating enough due to exercise. The HRM keps me honest…
  • Coffee, and drink plenty of water. Water helps flush the sodium and will flush out the water along with it. I would go for 10-12 glasses of water throughout the day until it normalizes. Might take a week or so. I also work out because sweat will flush out some of the salt.
  • I went through the same thing about a week or two ago. Honestly, I had cut my calories too much, and did not have energy to exercise. When I did exercise, I logged them as 1 calorie because I did not want to eat back all my exercise calories. Anyway, I dropped too low, and had to eat more. Purchased a polar FT4 heart rate…
  • It has been around 9 weeks or so since I have had a diet soda. It feels so good to be free from all of those chemicals and it is so much easier to get in water when you are not drinking sodas. So happy for your accomplishment. You will be amazed at how quickly you will feel the benefits of this decision. Congrats on your…
  • I am so sorry for your loss. All you can do is the best that you can do and take care of yourself. I agree that counseling could give you some perspective in what you are going through. Sometimes we all need someone to listen and give us wise advise on how to cope with everything life is throwing at us. If you want to add…
  • To be honest, I work at school, so I have been back to work for a couple of weeks and have been struggling with exercise. Just the new schedule, along with getting in my exercise has been a bit of a challenge. I am having to get creative, since I am so busy when I get home, and struggle getting up early enough to work out…
  • That is just symantics---Calorie wise it may not make you gain...but the chemical combo that is in it will make your body crave sweets until you finally eat something with sugar. Best thing is to cut out as much artifical sweetner that you can. I do no diet sodas, sugar free deserts, or anything with nutrasweet, equal, or…
  • I used to drink SEVERAL diet sodas a day. When I started my weight loss journey 6 weeks ago, I cut them out cold turkey, along with many of the guilty pleasures that I tended to overdo. Basically I wanted to cut out anything my body was addicted to. Now, I can honestly say that I feel so much better and am down 24.4…
  • This is just me, but if the person seems happy about their day, I find something nice to say. People have different situations regarding what they eat. One of my friends has a condition where she can NOT drink 8 glasses of water a day. I am not going to be commenting on how low her water intake is, because a doctor has…
  • Regardless of whether it is a true gain or not, do what you know you need to do. Eat right, exercise hard, drink lots and lots of water, and it will come off. If it is water weight, it will come off and you will have a nice little loss on top of it. If not, then you are closer to getting rid of the gained weight and have…
  • If possible, I preplan and get in a good long workout when I know I have something special where I need calories coming up. I have also lowered calories on the other days to make up for what I will be over. I usually eat under--just in case the unforseen happens. Special occasions are going to happen. Just plan and do the…
  • For me, it all boils down to this one thing. I am in this for me. If I succeed or fail, it is all on me. I know what I ate that made me fat. I know the workouts that I did not do that kept me fat. It is all on me. We as a society want to blame someone, anyone but ourselves, and maybe that is why so many of us are on this…
  • I got a digital food scale at Wal-Mart and love it. I weigh everything, and it keeps me honest. It was one of the best purchases I have made for my weight loss journey.
  • I see my lifestyle change as MY CHOICE. It is not inflicted on everyone who is around me. I CHOOSE what I eat and don't eat. I make the choices and it is my responsibility to stay the course even though people around me may not choose the eating and exercise lifestyle that I have adopted. I live in a world where there will…
  • My body loves to retain water. I am just learning my patterns , so it does not throw me off my gameplan. I know I am going to have a higher number on the scale--or a smaller loss if I have too much salt, eat too many carbs, that glorious week and a half when my hormones are screwed up from TOM, and if I do a really tough…

  • Never heard that, but for me--who cares if I look a little older as long as I feel younger and can do all of the stuff that I want to do!!
