  • I first did WW back in the 70's and I lost 50 pounds - looked great & felt great. That was the old original program - pretty restrictive and not a lot of choices. Since then I've tried WW two more times - early 2000's and again in 2013. I wasn't successful at all with the newer versions. I really don't think they are…
  • I'm a little older than most who have posted on this thread so here's my take -- I started using MFP to lose weight. I knew that a lot of my medical issues and aches and pain could be solved by eating better. I needed a tool to easily keep track of what I was eating. My goals, thought process: feel better by eating…
  • Wouldn't know it was the same guy!
  • It sounds as though your auto immune system is all messed up. You might start with seeing a good nutritionist for advice about your diet. They should be able to help you design a system with foods you can eat to lose weight and foods that will also help with inflammation. Also, have you asked your doctor about alternative…
  • As for missing the non-sticking properties of teflon - I simply paint a thin coat of olive oil or coconut oil over the cooking surface of the pan and it cleans up in a flash.
  • I've been cooking for a long time and the best pans I have are the set of Faberware Classic Stainless I bought in 1985. Distributes heat evenly; browns nicely; can go in the dishwasher and with a little Bar Keepers Friend have stayed beautiful. I just recently added a new pot to my set. I ordered it from amazon. Just make…
  • I gave up trying and buy pre-cooked AND peeled eggs. I tried every hint I saw -- using older eggs; plunging them in ice water as soon as they are done; did it the way Martha Stewart recommended -- nothing; hence boughtened hard boiled eggs.
  • Sounds like you may be anemic. Desire to chew ice is one of the signs. Are you getting enough iron? Water by itself shouldn't make you more thirsty. My mother and I both fight anemia and eating ice is always a give away for both of us.
  • If you are in it for the long term, in addition to the suggestions above, start taking a fish oil supplement daily. Or you can use flax seed oil (I don't like it so I don't do that one). The fish oil works wonders.
  • "But I had to learn to love that burn because pain is temporary but quitting lasts forever." - Excellent summary! I need to post that on every surface I see. Thanks for your story.
  • I don't know what to say. Is there a staff manager you can talk to and see why things are at a standstill? You've worked hard and are to be congratulated for your progress and persistence. As for the staff only talking about those that were not good patients, that's normal. We tend to remember failures and most of us,…
  • While 2 mph is quite slow to some, for me and a lot of us starting out 2 mph is about our limit. Other ways to walk that I've used is to go to Walmart and get a cart and push it around the store. My back doesn't hurt as bad if I'm holding on to the cart. Only trick to this is not filling up the cart!
  • Log it! I think it will help you decide was that cheat worth it or not. Too easy to delude yourself if you are only logging part of your intake.
  • I'm not to the maintenance phase yet but it looks to me like you have it under control. I agree with @maxit in that actually measuring/weighing periodically just to make sure you are still judging well. It is kind of like my blood sugar, the doctor tell me to test a couple of days a month just to make sure it isn't…
  • Jules you are in the right place then. I'm a type 2 diabetic whose last A1C was 7.9 and my avg bs before meals was running upper 190's or higher. Been doing MFP for a month counting calories and planning and recording meals and my average before meals now is in the 75-85 range. My diary is open if you want to take a look…
  • I had a NSV at noon. I have a pair of pants that are a little long. I happen to pick them out of the closet today. I noticed at noon that I was stepping on them with my heel. Not as much hip to spread over!
  • Great Work! It's that small things like this that I really appreciate. Just being able to easily put on your shoes. One reason I hate flying is having to put my shoes back on. I've finally learned to ask for a shoe horn. That helps.
  • I use an app that does that. It is called Blood Glucose Tracker. I print my reports and fax to my doctor or you could email. I also save them to my google drive. Here is the link for the app. Take a look at what it does. I especially like the graph it does of blood sugars. Unfortunately, they don't have an Apple version,…
  • May be "dodgy" but I'm sure there are a whole lot of us. June 30 I had an A1C done that was 7.9. While that was a minor improvement over the last, my blood sugar readings before meals were not anything to be proud of. Since then I've started using MFP keeping my calories between 1350 and 1500. I do meal planning and am…
  • I'm placing a bookmark on this one so that I can go back and re-read when I need a minute of motivation. Thank you for share in such an honest and articulate manner.
  • Oatmeal. 1/3 cup quick cooking oats, dash of salt, 2/3 c water, 1.5 minutes in my microwave. Take out add some seasoning and 2 Tbsp chopped pecans. Will boil over quickly so watch the microwave. It is quick, delicious and filling. I sweeten with a mixture of apple pie spice, cinnamon and splendid blend.
  • So now that I know what an NSV is, I had one this past Saturday. I had enough energy and strength to assemble a five shelf bookcase. Haven't had that for some time.
  • Thank you. The only thing I could come up with New Standard Version (bible) and that was completely out of context. :o
  • A lot of studies have shown that consuming a little fat like the items you suggest go along way toward making our brain cells feel satisfied.
  • For the situation right now - most of your 1200 is gone - I suggest a big salad of romaine and some crunchy raw vegetables with a hard boiled egg. Use only a tablespoon of a liquid salad dressing. That should be around 250 calories. It has bulk -- all the raw vegetables -- and protein -- for staying power -- and fat -- for…
  • Showing my age and my ignorance -- but what does NSV stand for? I'm assuming it is some type ???? small victory.
  • I try to do something that will keep my hands busy and my mind occupied. I've recently taken up coloring and I can spend all evening and not know where the time went. I'm staying out of the kitchen and I'm not thinking about food. The only down side - my dog feels neglected.
