  • For me, the "best" results depend on what I want for that day. Hands down I tend to lose weight faster on the elliptical trainer. But, for a good workout, I need to do both and add in some free weights. I have found that cardio exercise helps me to lose the fastest. But the fastest isn't always the best. If I don't so some…
  • I found gardening in the data base, and I don't think the calorie burn is high at all. But then, I was digging new beds in our heavy clay soil using a shove. and also reparing a rabbit fence around my raised beds. ( Oh-and pruning Roses. That wasn't many calories, but since I didn't have the right equipment it was tricky…
  • I doubly agree, especially with the just after a bath part. That's even more of a problem if you dry off well. I've learnedit can help a little to sprinkle bath powder-s (or even corn starch) on your wet skin. But how many calories would you count for this?
  • Have you ever done gardening? Serious gardening can burn some calories! Digging in clay soil; making new beds. I just thought of another funny exercise--using an old weed eater that's much heavier than they make them now, and keeps breaking down so I have to stop & repair it.
  • I had a surprising amount of trouble opening my cheese this morning.
  • Wow! Congratulations! I need the inspiration! Your 'before' picture is just about my size. I'm just getting started again and I need something to help me stick with it. Thanks!
  • I had never heard the term "skinny-fat" before I read this message board. I don't know what it refers too. But, I do know that if a person loses a lot of weight and doesn't build up their muscle at some time while doing it, they have a harder time losing the next time around. The person may look skinny, but they don't have…
  • Several different times I ate a pint of Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream in one setting. Once I ate a half a package of Oreo's just after coming in from a workour and then passed out. Thankfully I woke up. When I did, I realized that I had to stop doing things that way.
  • I can't wait until Spring to get started again! I wonder how many calories are burned just thinking about it and planning?
  • Thanks so much for the site!
  • I have much the same question. I just got back from the gym, and part of my exercise regimen always includes either lifting weights or using the Nautilis machines and neither of these is in the database. I can't find any strength training exercise in there, as a matter of fact. However, I KNOW they do burn calories. I just…
  • Tea and coffee are mild diuretics, so if you drink much of it, you should probably drink more water.
  • First of all, CONGRATULATIONS!! WOW!! I don't know about the actual amount of muscle you've gained. I'm not an expert at that. But I do know that a good muscle mass helps you to get muscle back. That's one thing that's saved me over the years and helped me to continue to take a tendency to fat in hand and stop it. I would…
  • I have noticed over the years that afterabout3 weeks to a month that mine is adjusted. It's probably good to be going that often because it indicates your kidneys are healthy. I actually read that if a person doesn't get enough water, that can make their tissues hold onto water and swell.
  • I can understand how it is to feel like you need a REAL change. NO MORE MESSING AROUND! I guess we're just not as young as we used to be,so we've got to just take things in hand and be serious about it. Congratulations on what you're doing!

  • I've always liked about.com.They have some common sense answers to things I need to know. Unfortunately in this case some of their quiz questions were confusing. They asked the reader to calculate information based on two servings but only gave the answer for one serving in one instance. (On another one, I was wrong with…
  • I agree with slow walking on the tredmill. But, you should just tell your boyfriend that you need to start slow. Hopefully, he's just trying to help you to get active by inviting you to the gym. But, DON'T OVER DO IT! THAT CAN BE DANGEROUS! If he's been exercising a while, he should know that.
  • You can verify it yourself! Seriously, I know what you mean, because I was thinking that way myself. However, I've been using the site a little while, and so far everything I've looked up has been correct as far as I can tell. But, you probably do want to be careful. .
  • Welcome! Congratulations on climbing the steps and going to Ireland! I hope one of these days I can do something like that. My brother told me about kissing the Blarney Stone. The way he described it, when you do get to the top, some men hold your feet and you lean back over a rail to kiss the stone. I told him I'd be…
  • I have heard if you sleep more you lose weight. But I would have thought that it would be the other way! I mean, if you're up, aren't you burning more calories. I'm wondering if the article I read wasn't just saying that you would lose weight because you wouldn't be eating if you were asleep??
  • I know, I'm replying to myself, but I'm excited! I just did my BMI and I'm only overweight now! My doctor told me 10 lbs. would make a difference. By the way, the things I told you about are under tools in the toolbar at the top of the page. And, if you burn 600 calories in your exercise, you should subtract it, so you…
  • Unless I'm dreaming, MFP can and will compute your recommended calorie intake and weight loss amount. Of course, they want you to lose the healthy way--not too fast. There's a good BMI calculator on this site too. From what I know about it, it's pretty accurate. It calculated my BMI close to what my insurance company said.…
  • I LIKE YOUR PHILOSOPHY!! And I like your weight loss too! You're encouraging the rest of us. Thank you! Uh-Oh! I posted twice again--How do I do these things? Maybe I hit enter too hard because I was excited.
  • I LIKE YOUR PHILOSOPHY!! And I like your weight loss too! You're encouraging the rest of us. Thank you!
  • I want to echo everyone else on here and say Thanks! Another interesting thing along those lines is that when we were young we didn't think of exercise as something we had to do, or sweating as work (as in work up a sweat), but both were something we wanted to do because it was fun!
  • I'm 5'6 1/2. I was 5'7, but I lost half an inch. But I don't think I fit in here. I've been BIG--and I do mean big-for so long that if I ever get to 160 lbs., I'll feel skinny! People on here are talking about size 4--I think I must have been bigger than that when I was born! (I was a big baby they say!) My goal is to just…
  • NO! You're not the only one! I know misery loves company-so you've got some. I used to play sports, basketball and track and field, and I wasn't too bad. Now I'm getting out of breath walking down the street! That's about my speed now. Hopefully before long I'll be able to jog. LOL! :embarassed:
  • Please be sure to get the holes even! You'll be sorry later if you don't. I did my own when I was 14 and they're slightly different. You only notice it when I wear dangle earrings. I've been told it's hard to notice, but I'm self conscious about it and don't wear dangles often.
  • Also, sometimes you just gain-for no obvious reason! I didn't even record my weight last week, but if I had, I would have gained two pounds.I gained one pound the week before. But, finally, I lost two this week. I'm either ahead or behind. It depends on how you look at it. I didn't do much different any of those…

  • I like Subway. You can find low calorie alternatives at Ruby Tuesday's. McDonald's has good salads and dressing that isn't too high in calories. It's easier if you can eat fish or chicken. Then you can find things at more places.
