  • Just sent you a FR :)
  • Kasaflyer - good for you!! Congrats and welcome! I've been on MFP for about a year and a half and it's an awesome tool for diabetes carb tracking and weight loss. I wish you continued success!!
  • I have tried the Low carb diet - and by low carb, I mean 90 or less per day - maybe that's not truly low by the LCHF standards, but I personally don't enjoy it. I like to have carbs, I feel healthy carbs are a good thing to have in your body - including fiber rich foods, that by nature - have carbs. I have found that I can…
  • I wish it would alert you when someone posts in a group - I seldom just go on here to check it out because posts are infrequent but would be on here if mfp alerted me to responses to my posts or posts to groups I'm part of :/

  • I had the minimed cgm, I forget the name - it was back in like 2009 maybe? and I did not like it - it was the kind that you had to secure down with a big tegraderm patch or it would flap up. I did not find it to be very accurate. I also would start itching 2-3 days after inserting it. Water would build up under the…
  • I am so confused by this site. I enter in my info and it tells me my TDEE is 2149 and for my workout day I should eat 2479 and rest days 1290 and it only lets me say I'm working out 4 days a week - if I go up to 5 days a week, it puts me at weight gain??? Doing 4 days per week with these calories puts me at losing 15 lbs…
  • Have those of you on Dexcom CGM heard of the NightScout app? I heard it's an app that you can synch with the dexcom and get the readings on your phone. i.e. if a parent wants to send their kid to a friend's house to spend the night, they can see the readings on this app and call the parent or go to the house if there's a…
  • I have been on the medtronic minimed, animas ping and Insulet Omnipod and I prefer the Omnipod far and away above the others. I think key features are the same from one pump to the next, but the tubeless feature of the omnipod is what Iove and I would never want to go back to being tubed and having to clip something on my…
  • Also I should say that I cannot find my med alert bracelet but I have a necklace that I've had since I was in grade school and will be wearing it (if it's not too bothersome when I test it on the swim tomorrow). Otherwise, I was just going to write on myself with permanent marker 'type I diabetic' on one arm and maybe IDDM…
  • Definitely understand where you're coming from with that. For me, I am worried about scar tissue from all the 'insertions' required for the pumps as long as I've been wearing them and the rest of my life (presuming a cure is not found :)) and to basically double that worries me because I was having a problem with site…
  • I had not looked at this since I made a lot of changes to my insulin rates after starting on MFP - I'm now at an average of 27u per day and used to be at 34-37 so that's good to know I've gone down thanks to my exercise. In the past 60 days, my lowest has been 17 and my highest was 34. I too am sensitive to insulin and…
  • Wow - I had no idea! When I had the CGM, I was definitely testing more than 3-4 times per day so I probably was messing it up. I had 'trust' issues with it ;) hence why I was testing so much and therefore probably messing it up which was causing the trust issues. Great to know if I ever decide to go back on one, but it's…
  • Ahh, I forgot about your 'ruralness' ;) That does make it a lot more difficult I'm sure. They should have online doctor consults - it's not like you really NEED to be in front of them. Stick with it - you'll get there and you'll be stronger for it.
  • 2hobbit1 - thanks for the link! I have been meaning to read his stuff for some time now and just never do it. Am watching the video right now!! :) As far as jealousy goes, I figure everyone has their own unique challenges and/or conditions - dieting is different if you have to eat gluten or dairy free or if you have a…
  • Nice - thank you! Seems more customizable and likely cheaper than tegraderm which is what I have used before.
  • Totally agree!! I put it on meat and cooked veggies - yummy!!!
  • Deezy - you're welcome! I hope the insurance works out for you!!
  • Hi there - I have not been on that one, but controlling the pump from the meter is a common feature of most pumps. I've been on medtronic minimed, animas ping and omnipod so I can give you feedback about any of those. Here is a website where you can compare models…
  • i used the mio's when I had the medtronic and i liked them. I had issues too with the quick sets getting occlusions too frequently. I think the mios go in at a different angle and that helped. Hope it works for you. Tubeless is awesome! There have been some issues with the omniopod pods, but no pump brand is issue free…
  • abatonfan - will be curious to hear what you think of the tslim. Congrats! That's an exciting transition!
  • Hi there - welcome to the club no one wants to be a part of. ;) I'm not sure what advice to give you, it sounds like a really difficult phase of the disease to be in. I have not heard of this before so thank you for the education on it. I think I'd feel the same as you, just let it progress and then at least you could…
  • Don't think of it as you're eating back everything you just worked off. As you exercise, your body starts burning more calories throughout the day when you're not even exercising. You should have a net calorie goal that you're shooting for. MFP can help you calculate it and you may need to adjust it based on your needs…
  • I have had some issues with this as well, but have found this tool really helpful in managing them. So I now know that when I take my dog on a walk, I burn about 200 calories. If I'm a little high before I leave, I won't have a snack. If I'm normal, I'll have a snack about 1/2 the calories of what I'm about to burn off. It…
  • I have, but like what it sounds like you're trying to do, it works for me to have a little something or turn off my pump before I start to exercise, depending on what i'm doing and my blood sugar at that time I start. I'm certainly no doctor, but I would say that you are having successes at lowering you weight and likely…
  • Any Core Exercises will help. This video does a good job of working your core and it's not exhausting but you totally feel it the next day. Start doing 1 video (only 10 mins) and work up to repeating it for a total of 3 times. It will work your back, obliques and waist http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r_J8btnIEKQ

  • ^^ I'm going to be trying that cocoa and yogurt recipe soon! :)
  • This is kind of long so I apologize, but I had posted this awhile back and thought I would share: Yesterday I had 1/2 of a dark chocolate w/ caramel and coconut bar from TJ's. After I finished, it was disheartening that the treat consisting of (Calories: 220, carbs: 24g (11sugar/2g fiber), fat: 13 protein: 2) really gave…
