  • Okay, so. I tend to eat 1150-1500 depending on my activity. I am a 5'0 female though and I sit on my *kitten* other than forcing myself to go for walks (school is great, hah). I tend to log my anticipated dinner plans when I'm eating breakfast. From there, I figure out lunch and whether I should build in a second walk to…
  • A lot of my friends are either super into it or really against it. But, really, whatever gets you moving. I personally enjoy listening to music and enjoying the sights of the city, rather than looking at a screen, but that's a matter of preference. I mean, you know what I listen to music on? My phone. I don't like walking…
  • I gained about 20 pounds while on Mirena, lost 30, gained back the 20. I mean, the initial gain did line up with having it put in. But, whether that caused increased appetite or perhaps the initial cramping reduced my will to exercise... I don't know. All I know is that, regardless of the impact of the Mirena on me, I've…
  • Seconding the quicker drunk thing! My hangovers are less brutal because I drink more water throughout the day instead of other things.
  • It's not even that simple. I have some concurrent beliefs with them, but they don't care because I don't love the right gender. It makes me so uncomfortable passing by the little stands on the street where they hand out pamphlets because I am... privileged (?) enough to pass as straight and they smile at me- but I know…
  • I've only found weight gain STARTING a new form. But, realistically, it was my own eating. I didn't lose/gain after stopping the nuvaring. The IUD (Mirena) has been fantastic for me. I gained a little when I started from drinking too much beer. I've lost on it too though when I decided I'd had enough of poor dietary…
  • I had my first "way out of my calorie goal binge" last night. Other than the slight hangover, I have no regrets about it. I feel like I should feel guilty, but I feel like I really needed that.
  • I'm 5'0. I can be happy on 1200 if I eat the right things. The second I add some wine or pop in there, I can feel the lack of food. But, I use 1200 as a base and rarely eat below 1400 with my fitbit adjustment. 1200 is low, but for shorter women, it's somewhat easier.
  • Stretch marks suck. I have them and I'm 22. However, there's a certain power in learning not to care about them. I know it sounds dumb, but once you accept them as a part of you- it's easier not to care. I have this "oh, hi, I forgot about you" relationship with mine. I think I once had a guy point them out to me and I…
  • I recommend walking. I go for hour+ walks several times a week. I get to relax, explore, and listen to music while burning calories. It's also easily adjusted for difficulty (hills and speed) and I can feel my muscles sore the next day when I push myself.
  • Why don't you just eat back the exercise calories?
  • Technically not a NSV because it's related, but I'm not excited about the number itself, so.... I finally got back down to a healthy BMI. I was there last summer and happy. Then I had a break up and a rough semester which led into a bad winter where I stopped walking as often and gained back a lot of weight. I started this…
  • I don't trust MFP for that. It's fun to think about (like horoscopes), but nothing I take as fact. Especially when I have my FitBit set to lose 1lb/week and I make that calorie goal and MFP tells me that I'll only lose 2.5lbs in 5 weeks. I've "beat" the 5 week average and "failed" it eating the same amounts last summer. It…
  • Confession: I drank an entire bottle of wine last night and forced it to fit my calories by putting half into today.
  • 1200 actually isn't too bad for a short woman. At 5'0, I can EASILY do 1200 daily. I have to disagree with many of those here. When you're close to a healthy weight and short, sometimes you don't have as much calories to play with. However, I never WANT to do 1200. The advice I would give is: - aim for a realistic weekly…
  • Switch to wine. Rum and diet coke. Go for side salads and eat before. It's totally possible to eat/drink low calorie while participating socially. Trust me.
  • I can't say I've had the experience of weight gain solely due to birth control. I've been on several types of pill, the ring, and, now, the Mirena IUD. Though several of the pills coincide with me gaining weight, it was less to do with them specifically and my own eating. They effected me poorly emotionally and I chose to…
  • Pinot Noir for a good red :)
  • Yeah. Last summer I was aiming for 120lbs and then decided to lower my goal to 105lbs once I reached my initial goal. When I got to 115lbs, I realized I didn't want to go that low. (I'm starting again from a higher weight, but I'm using 110lbs as a placeholder.)
  • Wasn't why I was asking, trust me. I was just curious about the rationale behind it and how such a general thing could apply to the broad population. It's a merely scientific curiosity. I'm sorry if this whole thing got out of control. I just was thinking about how people have different goals and body compositions. Like,…
  • One note: B-Vitamins make your pee florescent yellow too. Doesn't necessarily mean that you're dehydrated.
  • Confession: I'm setting a goal date slightly earlier than my back-to-school one because of a girl. (It's not my reason for losing, just the reason for setting a goal two weeks earlier.) I won't see her for almost two months and then we're spending a week together on vacation before I move across the country. I want to look…
  • Unfortunately, I really don't think it's possibly with your stats. You may be able to do 1kg/week (~2lb) for a little while, but you want to get down to ~50kg and at that point it will be hard and likely unsafe. To lose 4lbs in a week, like you desire, you need a deficit of 2000 calories a day over the week. At your…
  • That's about 3.7lbs/a week. Unless you're really heavy to start with, I don't think that you'll be able to maintain the deficit required. Half that /might/ be doable though. What's your current height/weight?
  • I have fibro. I recommend walking. I have a fitbit and it counts my steps and adjusts my calories to match. Walking and drinking water (and reducing alcohol) helps me a lot. I eat 1200-1500 calories a day (I'm also short and within 0.1lb of my healthy weight range) and aim for 10,000 steps a day. It's about learning to…
  • Some interesting answers here. I do agree with the rationale that its better to advise others on the side of caution. That is likely where the chart arose from, I assume, a safe-for-everyone guideline that is useful to newcomers and those seeking guidance. I don't mean to instigate fighting or to say the recommendations…
  • Oh, fair point. But when the alternative is drinking 5+ drinks to keep pace with others, both mornings after tend to suck.
  • Saves money AND calories because I get drunk on less. Just need to avoid eating while drunk.
  • My confession is that sometimes I have skipped breakfast or lunch on days where I know that I'll be having alcohol. It's terrible and I know it, but it feels so good to have a couple of glasses of wine and still be within my calories.
  • Careful. That can be a huge goal if you don't have a lot to lose. Your profile says you have 12lbs total... so be healthy about it :)
