I'm 46 this year, and looking to lose 20 lbs. I've sent adds to a few of you--in your 40's as well. I just think it's a different game at 40 than it is at 20. I need friends I can relate to. Please feel free to add me anyone who needs/gives support.

Literally can't count how many of those comments (some well-meaning, some just mean),I've gotten in my lifetime. I'm 46 now, and I've gotten to the point that whether they mean well or not, it's nobody's effing business what I weigh or eat for that matter! Society doesn't allow comments on anything else in life, but weight…

it's about -10F here (-40 with windchill). I don't speak F, but that's what the thermometer says.

Weight loss is 70% what you put in your mouth, and 30% exercise. Some even say more like 90/10, so focus on your eating first. Start walking 30 or 45 minutes a day, and work up to the gym. Good luck.

I think it's important to consider that some of those calories are already accounted for too. For example if you burn 400 calories in 40 minutes of exercise, you would have burned x number of calories doing nothing anyway. Plus, you may have already accounted for some extra calories in your activity level, right?

Haven't done it in ages, but loved it when I did.

That's really great. Congratulations.

I've just come through this. Try to remember that they do get older and more independent. Mine are 4 and 6 and they've let me work out for 1 hour now. Also, it's good to let them see you doing it, for role modelling--it's not taking time away from them, it's role modelling! Remember that. Playpen good.

Nice!

I'm a skin sufferer. I get it. It may not snap back. (depending on your skin type). Surgery is the only thing that will work for some people.

To run without injury, keep your knees bent and take quick teeny tiny steps--almost like a shuffle. Do not worry about speed, just form. Repeat week 1 until you can do it--you'll get there. Start slow and work on speed later.

I haven't met too many people who aren't pretty, so give me the body, and more importantly, the health that comes with the body

might try these--would probably be fine cold for travelling too?

check out fitness blender online--every form and level of exercise you could ever want. Or DVD are great too, and pretty cheap now.

Thank you for posting this article. I loved it. It could have been written about me, and it's given me a whole new perspective on myself. Behavioural addiction. Huh. I never really believed that I was addicted to food, because food only serves it purpose for me under certain conditions, so the behavioural aspect of it…

I could have written this myself. It's all about planning. Make a commitment to planning, and go from there.

I just ordered a polar loop. about $120 in Canada. haven't tried it yet though, but have heard great things. tried a fitbit--did not work at all for me.

I was invited to a pool party, and when I didn't say yes right away, the woman said: "there'll be other fat girls there.".

Hi. I'm 45 years old, and after falling hard off the fitness wagon, I'm starting over...again. Ugh. The MFP approach to health and wellness and weight loss, is the ONLY thing that works longterm. Time to do it. Please add me. Trying to lose about 40 lbs.

just bump. truly inspiring.

I work with a personal trainer who has her clients "walk" at 4mph. When I first started my c25k there was very little difference between my walk and my run, so I kept repeating the short intervals, with a focus on increasing my speed. I never did get to 6mph running, but that was my goal.
-
I have to be very careful what kind of shorts I wear so they don't ride up. trial and error there., and wear yoga pants or capris to walk.

Thanks for all those great ideas ladies. To the girl who said I shouldn't limit myself, I agree. And there was a time when I thought I could just wear what I wanted, and I definitely favour comfort, but some things just look silly at a certain point. Unless you've got the attitude to pull it off, and that's not really my…

According the the national weight loss registry, here's what works: exercise about an hour a day--do something you like. watch less tv. eat about 100 grams of protein a day--it fills you up longer, and is more satisfying. real life includes chocolate (or whatever your treat is). eat the smallest amount of it that you need…

check out the "eat well" cookbooks (paleo--very good ideas), and "it all starts with food"--easy excellent recipes. You sure it's gluten?

Really? You're grieving this loss? that makes no sense to me. How much better off are you without that guy in your life? Is that really who you want to spend your time with? So much better off. Give yourself some time, and thank the relationship gods that he's gone.

blend a cup in the magic bullet, with 1/2 tsp vanilla and a sweetener--tastes like greek vanilla yogurt. I'm going to try it savoury for a dip, just haven't yet.

tried it. felt no different than any other shake I've had, and did not feel less hungry. Tastes fine.
