  • Thanks for the advice Heybales.
  • Fish oil isn't something I've heard about but I'll definitely research it. Thanks.
  • Hi there. I am on Levothyroxine due to acquired Hypothyroidism caused by radiation treatment on my thyroid. Being Hypothroid makes weight loss a little slower if the medication is not the exact correct dose. I also have Peripheral Neuropathy and am on high doses of Gabapentin, Cymbalta and Nortriptyline, all of which have…
  • I've used SW before but the one thing it doesn't teach you is portion control. MFP is not only free but allows you to take control of portion size, calorie intake, calories burned, macro nutrients, water consumption etc. And if its the social aspect you like, then get some friendly, supportive friends on here and use the…
  • Hi Chris, I'm at home all the time because I care for my disabled wife. Giving up a stressful but rewarding career to be at home 24/7 was a huge culture shock and the main reason for my weight gain. But now I've taken charge of my life, given myself a huge boot up the backside and am rebuilding my body into the size and…
  • As a newbie lifter I am by no means an expert but I will tell you this: If it wasn't for my layer of fat I would be a 7 stone weak weakling. I decided to try lifting to help lose the fat, change my body composition and get stronger. I didn't have any equipment at home so I had to go to the gym and I felt like a right sissy…
  • I enjoy a glass of wine, a lager and vodka (I'm not an alcoholic ............ Honest!!) but I have cut right back and now only have a drink at a social event or on an occasional Saturday night. I don't believe that denying yourself something completely is a very healthy way of dealing with weight loss (unless it is…
  • I lived in Colchester for 18 years but now reside near sunny Southampton. I do Stronglifts 5x5 on 3 days of the week and try and get in a light walk on the other days. I don't eat clean (being a full time Carer for my disabled wife and full time Dad/cleaner/taxi/cook/chief bottle washer for 3 teenagers limits my time and…
  • I haven't seen the tubs of ice cream anymore but we buy the Skinny Cow Icecream lollies from Tesco. They do the Mint Choc Chip and Double Choc ones. Hope that helps.
  • I went to buy a new suit today, for a wedding I'm attending next weekend, and I've gone down a size in both the trousers (38inch down to 36 inch) and the jacket (42 inch down to 40 inch) and they both fit really nice. I'm well chuffed! :-)
  • Nah! Who needs to lift when you can just sit on the bench in the power cage and play on your phone?
  • I couldn't afford to join even if I wanted to. I get all the support, information and motivation I need from the forums and groups on MFP.
  • I stalled on the OHP for the first time today, too. Although stalling on 42.5kg/94 lbs probably seems a bit puny to some of you guys, I'm actually amazed I made it this far before stalling. I'm a really small guy at 5ft 8inches with wrists of only 6.5inches (all my excess weight is around my gut and moobs!) and when I…
  • Guilty as charged!

  • I'm new to EM2WL .............. Just started today so an invite to the support group would be much appreciated. Many thanks.
  • A few weeks ago (7) I was a complete gym/lifting novice ......... I'd never stepped foot in a gym and had certainly never lifted any weights. I did loads of research online and decided to do StrongLifts 5x5 and I am so glad I did! When I first started the empty bar seemed really heavy to me (i was a complete weakling)and…
  • Another fat git here on the south coast! Friend request sent
  • We live in the New Forset but have also camped there too. Ashurst Campsite is very clean and tidy, spotlessly clean toilet facilities and is a regular walkway for cattle and ponies. You can pitch where you like as there are no set pitches (except for a handful of hardstanding pitches). There is no electric hookup but…
  • I like nothing better than an ice cold pint of lager but I've knocked that on the head and now plump for vodka and diet coke or white wine with diet lemonade.
  • Hi there. I had NEVER lifted in my life. In fact I had NEVER been in a gym I my life before I started SL5x5. I'm now on Session 18 tomorrow so the equivalent of week 6 ( I can't always fit in 3 sessions a week so for a couple of weeks I only did 2 sessions). I haven't suffered any soreness yet and am starting to struggle…
in Hello Comment by nykdem April 2013
  • I'm on Week 6/Session 17 and my current weights are: Squat 57.5kg/127lb BP 40kg/88lb Row 50kg/110lb OHP 37.5kg/83lb DL 75kg/165lb I'm only having to take 60second breaks between sets except on OHP and I'm having to take a full 90 second rest. Although the weights I'm lifting are not yet impressive compared to where other…
  • Our weight loss journeys and the methods that work for us to reach our goals are as unique as our DNA. Yes, follow the same basic principles of eating at a calorific deficit and exercising regularly, but beyond that it is a matter of working out what works best for you. Some "experts" will tell you that you HAVE to do A or…
  • Hi there. My wife is disabled. She has Primary Lateral Sclerosis which is a form of Motor Neuron Disease. She uses a wheelchair all the time outdoors and a gutter walker indoors. Both her upper and lower body are affected so she is unable to do any exercise. She also has seizures, blackouts and is in extreme pain all the…
  • Hi. I'm 45, fat and unfit. Live in Hampshire with my wife and 3 hormonal teenagers, hence my love for copious amounts of vodka! :-) Anyone feel free to add me if you don't mind the odd butt kicking when you fall off the MFP wagon :-)
  • I am on thyroid meds due to having radiation treatment on my thyroid. I also have Peripheral Neuropathy (sensory and autonomic) and take Gabapentin, Cymbalta and Nortriptyline All of these meds are renowned for contributing to weight gain and I have gained nearly 3 stone (42pounds) since being on the meds. Also the…
  • Thanks for that. What you're saying makes sense and, like you, I don't want to jeopardise my SL progress.
  • I've only recently begun and I started with just the bar and increase in small increments because I have NO weightlifting experience. Starting weights:- Squat 20kg Bench 20kg Row 30kg OHP 20kg DL 40kg I've just completed Session 7 and my weights are:- Squat 32.5kg Bench 27.5kg Row 37.5kg OHP 25kg DL 50kg I know those…
  • Hi there. I'm from the UK but I'm a softie southerner. Plenty of *virtual* kicks up the *kitten* available from me. I may not be the most tactful person on the planet but I do say it how it is and offer support, motivation and the occasional telling off. Feel free to add me :-)

  • MFP is a great site with loads of great information resources on the forums. Having friends on here is a real help in keeping you motivated. I have about 40lbs to lose and I log in every day to keep myself focused. Feel free to add me.
  • We've had ours for about a year and love it. We use it to cook all manner of things. There is a Facebook Actifry Recipe page and we have got some recipes off there.
