  • I've been in maintenance for about 8 months now, and I no longer log my calories although I do weigh daily. I eat when I'm hungry regardless of what the clock says, and that usually ends up being 5 or 6 times a day. I don't eat a lot at any given time, and that seems to be the key for me. It's only when I get really hungry…
  • I love the Smuckers PB, and eat a lot of it! I was making my own for a while but this is just as good. It is just peanuts and a little added salt, but I add a little salt when I make it, too, so no big deal for me. When I buy a new jar I put it in the cabinet upside down until I'm ready to open it. That makes it a bit…
  • I guess my approach is a little different than the one some of you have taken, because although I haven't logged calories since July, I still weigh every morning. That just seems to work best for me. And maybe someday it won't work anymore and I'll have to pay attention and log again, but at least it won't sneak up on me…
  • Well, I made it through a very busy holiday season without gaining! I've had a few family emergencies in the past couple of weeks, and combined with very cold mornings it has hampered my early morning walks. As of this morning, though, I'm still on track and still motivated to keep it up. It felt SO good during the…
  • Hmm. I just noticed something interesting. After weighing this morning and finding myself a lb lower than I've been at all (131, when my supposed maintenance weight is 135), I decided to actually log my calories for yesterday and see where I stand. I stopped logging when I reached maintenance because I felt pretty…
  • I just bought a new scale and it says that if you move the scale at all and step on it again, it adds in the weight of the scale. It says to recalibrate you need to tap it until a zero appears then wait for it to shut off. Then you step on again for an accurate weight without moving the scale.
  • :snicker: When I pulled up my jeans after coming out of the bathroom a few minutes ago (TMI, I know!), I couldn't find the zipper pull and had a momentary panic that it had broken. Then I realized that I had pulled down my jeans WITHOUT UNZIPPING THEM. Yes, I've lost more weight since starting maintenance, and I really…
  • Thanks for posting this! I eat lots of Smuckers PB, but I've got the creamy kind. I think I'll check it against the code just to make sure, though. And still, it makes me a little nervous...
  • Ditto on almost all of this. I could have written this post.
  • It's a good thing I allow myself to be in a range, lol, because I went to an Indian buffet yesterday and sampled a little bit of everything and drank a mango lassi! Totally enjoyed it, but this morning I STILL feel bloated and full, and my weight's up a lb or two. I'll drink a lot of water today to get rid of the bloat,…
  • Okay, I'm here -- moved over from the other thread!
  • I often have trouble going to sleep or staying asleep, and have for years. The best solution I've found is to keep an audiobook on my Ipod, preferably a book that I've already read "in real life" so it won't matter to me if I go to sleep while listening. I keep the Ipod under my pillow, and if I wake up at night and feel…

  • We're here, over on the maintenance thread! http://www.myfitnesspal.com/topics/show/191617-maintenance-thread?page=18 Come join us. Lots of good discussion about to handle maintenance. Congrats on getting there!
  • Yes, I'm definitely happier now. It had a snowball effect for me -- first I was just trying to lose weight. Then I figured out that not only did I feel better if I ate healthier food, I was able to eat more of it. I gradually lost my taste for junk food, and as my weight dropped I felt more like exercising. And that part…
  • Hey, that's exactly what I do too! I usually pick an audiobook that I've already read "in real life", so it doesn't matter if I lose the thread of the story. (Right now I'm listening to Lonesome Dove at night, for the umpteenth time!) It just relaxes me to hear someone reading out loud, I guess. I also wake up very early…
  • It is! That's the beauty of using the calorie counting and food database here, in my opinion -- it's actually a good thing to be thinking about the next meal. I'm just maintaining now, but when I was actively losing weight I would plan my meals for the day and most of the time I would go ahead and log them. I could always…
  • Have you just begun an exercise program too? I know that when I start anything new that I'm not used to, even walking further, or hiking in a more hilly terrain, I tend to weigh more for a couple of days. I've always assumed that it's water retention due to the healing process in my muscles.
  • I buy rotisserie chicken at Costco. They are huge there compared to the other stores in my area, and only cost $4.99. Maybe I've just been lucky, but they've always been good so far and I've never gotten sick from them.
  • I really just changed my eating habits while tracking my calories, in an effort to both lose weight and get healthier. I'm eating far less processed food now than I did before, and my tastes have really changed. Now I love fresh fruit, for instance, and before I was just so-so about it. Once I hit my goal weight (back in…
  • I've eaten greek yogurt every night for months. I never knew until joining MFP how much fuller a protein snack leaves me -- the difference is really noticeable. Eating one last snack before bedtime didn't get in the way of my weight loss, and even now, in maintenance, I look forward to my Chobani or Fage before bedtime.
  • Me, too. Once I lost the extra weight, I had no more trouble with it. I had a terrible time with it before, though. I carried my fat right around my midsection -- I wonder if that makes a difference.
  • I don't know the answer, but I've wondered that, too. I have a thyroid nodule and take methimazole to control my (slight) hyperthyroidism. I've notice that on some mornings lately I've felt "shaky," and it doesn't seem to be related to how much I've eaten or to exercise. I was wondering if my weight loss, or the fact that…
  • Interesting. "Your data suggest a slight automatic preference for Fat People compared to Thin People." Only in the past couple of years did I put on enough weight that I would have been labelled "fat," and I was actually probably labelled "thin" until I hit age 40 or so. I wonder if that makes a difference -- the fact that…
  • My initial goal was 140, but when I got there I still had my belly fat so I reset my goal to 135. That's what I'm maintaining at right now -- I still have a bit of a belly, but I'm 54 years old and unfortunately that's where the last bit of fat likes to hang on at this point in my life! When I was younger I weighed quite a…
  • I've never been in a tanning bed in my life, and I'm as pale as a ghost. A good friend of mine, though, makes sure to have a good tan all year round because she says that "tan fat looks better than pale fat!" :-)
  • I know there are different ranges for what is "normal" depending on what lab is being used, but my TSH is usually kept between 2.5 and 3.0. Your reading seems kind of low to me -- maybe there are other factors the endo is looking at for you? Sometimes the other thyroid readings (T4, etc.) have to be taken into account,…
  • I've lost a LOT of hair in the past few months. I did go to the doctor about it -- as a matter of fact I went to both my endocrinologist and my gyn. They both agreed that it was a combination of "shocks" to my body that happened at approximately the same time -- 30 lb weight loss, major surgery, and surgical menopause. I'm…
  • I was weaned off of nadalol about a month ago after being on it for 20 plus years. I can honestly say that some things are easier -- it takes my leg muscles much less time to "warm up" when I start my walk, and I haven't noticed that dead feeling in my muscles as much when I push hard. I took beta blockers for mitral valve…
  • I take Centrum Silver (yes, I'm old, lol!) at bedtime with no problems.
