1 chest straps are still better. 2 a FR610 is better than anything you can put on a phone. Maybe you want to upgrade to a newer watch for other reasons, but the only two major advancements since the 610 are hr that's don't work great and music onboard

Run more more often. Add miles slowly
-
Recovery is zone 1. It's "active recovery" during a workout. If you aren't working out by HR, it's useless. There is no good or bad. It just is.

The law says if there is a adequate adjacent pedestrian way, you have to use it. But case law says that common law is still in effect, all roads are legal for pedestrian. Pedestrian use in the road is legal even when there is a adjacent way

If you want to PR, I'd shoot for 4:45. According to RW's calculator, if your doing 30 mpw, a 4:31 is possible with your recent races. At 20 mpw, 4:33 At 15 mpw, 4:35 (not that I would run a marathon at only 15 mpw, that's not enough for a good 5k ;) ) https://www.runnersworld.com/uk/training/a761681/rws-race-time-predictor/

No, this is wrong. KCal = 0.62 x lbs x distance (mi) HR makes no difference. Drag makes very little difference. Mass and distance are the only things that make any difference. Any and every 200lb person will burn 370 or so KCal over a 5k weather that takes 35 minutes or 19 minutes. If you could, you could burn Calories for…

+1 I'm fine with most shirts, but last year I bought a nice looking shirt that tore me up!

Pulse Ox is almost useless. The way it's measured makes it bad. It is useful when you are at higher elevations but otherwise it isn't
-
Running 200-250 miles. Walking? Don't track, until they fall apart basically
-
Topo is based about 20 miles from me in eastern Mass (Framingham specifically). I know my LRS carries them but that doesn't help you 😉
-
Wattbike. But last I saw it was more than your budget
-
There is no way you burned 750 KCal walking for an hour. That is unless you walked 4 mph and weigh 650 lbs
-
Nike destroy my feet. Go to a LRS and get fitted

Virginia Tech published their helmet tests on it: https://www.helmet.beam.vt.edu/bicycle-helmet-ratings.html Best helmet they've ever tested. HOWEVER a Ballista MIPS is better than all but 1 WaveCel helmet. Doesn't look substantially better than MIPS
-
Run. I'd get in about 12-15 miles per week that way
-
Certain plastics get brittle with lots of UV. But my helmet is 9 or 10 years old - it's my replacement for the broken one above ;)
-
I thought MIPS was supposed to be great? I still want to get a Ballista MIPS before my next race. It's all fun and games until a Ford Escape right crosses you and you demolish their fender with your shoulder and head. I broke my collar bone that way and ended with a helmet cracked in half.

The only things that I think will make it to a next generation watch is the Sony chipset and maybe the face. It's mostly a Fenix 5 (Descent, Approach, whatever the flight watch is) with better materials. But I do like the idea of 2 week-while-hiking-GPS battery life
-
In high school I ran cross country, which are all trail races. Wore spikes, between 1/2" and 1" depending on the terrain. There are some trail races out here that take place on conservation land. I use my everyday running shoes now a days

+1 65lbs is insane. Even 40 lbs people are throwing around is crazy to me! My summer base weight for trips in the White mtns is 5kg (12.2). Skin out is 7.4kg (gear + clothes worn, no food). I splurge on a comfy 1kg hammock ;) OP: I've got no magic bullets for you. I don't do anything unusual specifically for hiking. I run,…

Your absolute best bet would be buy power meter pedals and a computer (Garmin, Wahoo, Lezyne). You'll get accurate power figures and thus accurate calorie figures. However, this is a $600+ option ;)
-
Gravel or adventure bike. Go to your local shop, they'll have lots of options, and know much more about what people use on the race. They should know she used options too

I have a partial deviation. My ENT says don't worry about it. I have to mouth breathe while running and I spit constantly. I think it slows me down 15-30 seconds a mile.
-
More miles. Almost all of it slow
-
Almost 41 year old man here. Your HR isn't out of the ordinary. Most of my runs are in the high 160s to low 170s. But slow down. If you can't finish 1 minute run, your going too fast.

VA3 was supposed to have Spotify by now. No online capability though, so you've got to download playlists onto the watch and have Spotify premium
-
Simple? Yes, but you'll need a chest strap either way. It's also the point which your breathing changes to much shallower. That way it's much easier with help though
-
I don't know performance condition. Mine doesn't do it. But I assume it's like fitness/freshness from training peaks. It's useless of your HR zones aren't set up. You don't need to know your max HR to set zones. The transition from z4 to z5 is your lactic threshold. That's easy to find. You could also find your max HR…
-
FR 230 or Vivoactive 3. Sounds like anything more would be a waste of features. VA3 actually has some weight training features. No reason to get a 735 or 935 unless you are going to do some triathlons

I'm enjoying my Fitbit Aria (original). Pretty cheap if you can find one. WiFi takes all the fiddly issues out too.
