  • Have you considered ramping up your exercise for more calories? Sometimes, I walk an extra mile or two if I know I'm going to have a treat later. (I burn 320 calories for half an hour of walking and try not to eat more than 160 of that back, but if I walk for a full hour, I can eat up to 320 calories back.)
  • Smoking. I was sharing an apartment with a friend who didn't want me to smoke inside. So, I smoked out on the porch until winter came around. We had plastic up over the door to the porch, so that meant I had to walk down the stairs to the entryway, to smoke in the cold. Wasn't worth it.
  • Google "vegan meal ideas + protein". That way, you can make sure you're getting sufficient protein while you're meat-free. Is there a reason you want to go meat free? I'm not seeing how it's connected to weight loss. As long as you're eating fewer calories than you burn, you'll lose weight. Though it would make me…
  • IKR? I'm having 6 chocolate chip cookies tonight in exchange for 2 miles on the treadmill at a 15% incline.
  • However you want to do it, just walk. We all differ on what works best for us. When I started losing weight the first time (I've fallen off the wagon before), my children were too young for me to take them with me outside, so I invested in a treadmill. Now that I've walked on it so long, it's what I prefer. I can walk at a…
  • MFP uses the Mifflin-St. Jeor formula to give you a calorie number for your weight loss goal. Most of us use their calorie recommendations as a starting point. Say MFP tells you you'll lose a pound a week by cutting your calories to 1500 a day, and you follow their recommendations for a month. After the month is over, if…
  • Start recomp now and reassess your weight goal after you see what it does to how you look. I was 125# all my adult life until I had a really bad accident when I was 29. Though I weighed 118# when I got out of the hospital months later, I didn't look healthy at all. Because I wasn't. I was hypothyroid and no one had figured…
  • I had some issues with MFP's calorie estimates. The solution for me was that I just stopped eating back all my exercise calories (on most days), and using the Harris-Benedict equation to calculate my calorie needs, rather than the Mifflin-St. Jeor equation MFP uses. You've got to experiment with what works for you, because…
  • Thrift stores are good, but taking in clothes you already own in is better. There will, of course, be a point where you just can't take make something any smaller without spoiling its shape, but there are all kinds of tutorials on YouTube on taking in clothes or making your own pattern for some things.
  • I've been saying that for years. I even have changed the names of my meals on MFP to: Breakfast, Second Breakfast, Dinner, Tea, and Soupsies. I left a couple of Hobbit meals out, but that's me for the most part.
  • If it helps you keep from overindulging and you make sure to meet all your nutritional goal, OMAD is great. If you find you constantly struggle to do it, it's not good for you. The secret to dieting is meeting your nutritional needs at a calorie deficit without struggling. Exercise helps me, because it makes room for my…
  • Download a white noise app on your phone, see if that helps.
  • I can't run because of an orthopedic injury, and that makes me very happy. I hate running. Even if I could run, I would prefer to walk for exercise. I'd probably walk, even if it didn't burn calories, but you can be sure of the fact that there are days I only walk so I can have a cookie. As for running, it's like anything…

  • I use Kirkland brand, more than they recommend (2 pills instead of just 1). I don't know what's causing my inability to fall asleep, there are too many things it *could* be (hypothyroidism, TBI, gout, etc.), but I don't want to take prescription sleep medication, because of the danger of dependency. It works okay, but I…
  • I don't lie; they just don't know I'm trying. But I've got a great out. I cannot eat sugary stuff because I've got gout.
  • Actual video I've seen. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Odg2K25sLGg
  • I get swollen lymph nodes all the time, sometimes when my body is fighting the virus that causes my cold sores. (I and every one of my siblings got them from our mom. Thanks, Mom!) Your body is likely ramping up its production of white blood cells to fight something off. Probably a cold or a sinus or ear infection. Take a…
  • As long as you're quiet when you lift. Make any noise, and they'll blast an alarm, bringing the attention of anyone on the premises on you. I forget what they call it, but the concept has always annoyed me. I know it's aimed at getting the super-irritating guys who make excessive noise to settle down, but, sheesh, anyone…
  • Rock climbing? If you know the amount of time it took, this calculator might be able to help: https://captaincalculator.com/health/calorie/calories-burned-rock-climbing-calculator/.
  • I've cut myself down to only weighing once a month, and, honestly, I like things this way. My focus has kind of changed from centering around a number on the scale to worrying about changing things I don't like about my body. I know that my batwings won't be disappearing unless I lose fat, so I'm still determined to keep…
  • Just throwing this out there, in case it works for you. It's a Quick TDEE calculator that heybales (Mike Bales) put together, and it's been pretty accurate for me. Follow the instructions in the upper right corner for saving it to your own computer, and you can play with your calorie requirements for different goals.…
  • Also, I just want to put a word in for Coke Zero. One of my friends who drank sugary sodas for years switched to it when he decided to lose weight. And he really likes it. I hate it; it's too sweet for me. But I adore unsweet tea and good ol' Diet Coke, so my taste buds are suspect, anyway.
  • I am so happy for you that you have figured out how to get yourself healthy again! Such awesome news! TFS.
  • The package on the stuff I buy says 25 calories per popped cup, and I generally eat an entire bag by myself. I just measure the number of popped cups and multiply by 25. I have no idea if I'm measuring correctly or not, but I haven't got a Phd in Mathematics, so it's the best I can do.
  • I'm in agreement with ipmac. Call you doctor to see what he or she would advise. She might say light exercise, like walking or swimming is okay before your appointment or she might want to exercise some caution if she thinks some tests are needed before giving you the okay. GOT_Obesessed - It may seem like a lot, but for…
  • The way I look at it, your body doesn't work on a 24 hour cycle, so don't sweat it if you eat over your calorie limit on a given day if you eat under on another day. For example, today after exercise, if I eat nothing more today (which I absolutely will do, don't worry), I'd have a 1,500 calorie deficit. But, if I'm…
  • I don't call my WOE intermittent fasting, because I'm just doing me. I have never eaten breakfast, ever. I'm just not hungry, and I often skip lunch for the same reason. But I have my coffee! With cream. Other than that, though, I don't eat until I'm hungry, and it works out the same as intermittent fasting most days --…
  • It must be concerns about sugar. When I was a kid, if you were to get me to drink milk, it would have to be chocolate. Since most kids were skinny at the time, no one was concerned about that. I don't know what's behind the skyrocketing obesity in kids, but it's going to take a lot more than getting chocolate milk off the…
  • Whey protein is lower fat (about 1 g per serving) and has about 24 g protein. A 4 tbsp serving of hemp powder has 13 g of protein and only 3 grams of fat. These two make good options, depending on your exact needs.
  • I accidentally do OMAD on occasion, but not on purpose. That's just how God made me. Recently, though, I realized that working out in the afternoons with no fuel is what was making me sick to my stomach after exercising, so I've started having a few hundred calories with my coffee. You can give it a try. But if you find…
