  • It should go low enough if you're doing them using the bench; is that how you're trying them?
  • Why resurrect a thread like this to comment on as your first post? :# I don't mind slim fast, but I'd think any sort of 'real' food would help someone stay full longer. My thought for supplementing this meal: steak. That said, I like a good shake made with protein powder, frozen fruit, a couple handfuls of leafy greens,…
  • I had sweet potatoes with dinner last night  Stabbed three of them with a fork, rubbed with a little EVOO and some garlic salt, and nuked them for 9 minutes, turning after every three. They came out perfect!
  • Lifting heavy in and of itself never particularly appealed to me, until I realized just how dramatically it improved my performance in all other aspects of life. ;) As a fellow tall gal (I'm also 5'11") I totally understand wanting to be on the shorter side of the spectrum, but you need to learn to love yourself regardless…
  • I pay $62/mo for a membership to the YMCA and that covers our entire family (me, the hubs, and our two girls). That gives us access to the pool, all classes, and the childcare center.
  • I'm so glad to hear that you had a great experience! Core stability for me has been vastly improved thanks to Pilates; might be worth checking out. It really does make a difference being in a group setting like that!
  • Expect your butt to hurt <~ and that's coming from someone with plenty to spare! :D Definitely get there early; depending on your gym, you may want to see if you can pre-register for the class. Spin tends to fill up very, very quickly. Make sure to tell the instructor that you're new, and he'll help you get your bike…
  • What cruise line are you taking? We were on Celebrity in December, and the ship had a breakfast/lunch restaurant geared specifically towards healthy dining - fresh fruit smoothies, poached salmon, etc. It really made a difference in helping avoid the bloat typically associated with cruising. If you have traditional dining,…
  • Yum!! I have no idea about a low cal version. When the craving hits I try to get it as a side after a big workout. I figure that way it's a smaller serving and I'm offsetting some of the calories, right? :D
  • One of the issues people face when starting out is going way, way too fast. Your run needs to be an easy enough pace that you can still carry on a conversation. If you can't, then you need to slow down. The speed comes later; right now you want to work on building up your endurance. There's a great c25k group here too…
  • I did. Now they're all 400 years old and fully clothed. Thank God!
  • :D Haha I love this and you're so right! It was much easier for me to eat heavy cakes than when I lifted heavy weights though, so that may be part of the issue. Plus, there aren't usually a ton of half-naked intimidating looking muscle heads hanging around in bakeries. :p
  • At a beer tasting, the words "leather" and "wet dog" to describe one of the samples. Some of the people really liked that one too  lol
  • I've ran and walked multiple half marathons. As a back-of-the-packer, I'd suggest that you ask around before signing up for a race. Some of them are notorious for packing up long before the posted cut off times. Others (like the Honolulu Marathon) will stay open and fully staffed until literally the very last person…
  • I went onto the website for AF and they link to a pretty interactive page called Anytime Health. It has virtual coaching, a workout planner with videos of how to use the different equipment, etc etc. http://www.anytimehealth.com/ It looks like it should have a lot of the information you're asking about  Be sure to…
  • Hello all! I'm checking in here at age 41, 5'11.5" and 186#, with an ultimate goal of 150#. I was sidelined with an injury last year after completing my first full marathon, and that (coupled with a change in medications, two young foster children, and a newly developed sweet tooth) helped me gain an extra 30#, a lack of…
  • How??? How do you do those things and not die with the little amount you're eating? If your metabolism was functioning properly you should probably be closer to 2000 calories at the very least with that kind of activity level - probably even more than that. Eat Moar! Your sports will improve dramatically, and you'll feel…
  • My go-to meal is the Panera You-Pick-Two: Garden Vegetable Soup w/ Pesto, Half Smoked Turkey Breast on Country Bread, Apple. Ends up at 400kcal, 6g fat, 20g protein, and 14g of fiber. Definitely helps keep me full when I'm out and about! :-)
  • Best. Show. Ever. :glasses: I also didn't realize Craigslist had a forum section. If you have a bunch of dog-related questions, why wouldn't you go to a forum about dogs? It seems like you'd get far more pertinent answers and way fewer crazies doing it that way.
  • I like using it as my liquid in green smoothies. :-)
  • We were expecting a token vegan at our Thanksgiving dinner last year; she didn't end up coming, but some of the options I'd been considering were: Gluten-Free Butternut Squash Baked Risotto - http://vegnews.com/articles/page.do?pageId=3865&catId=11 Quinoa Stuffed Portobello Mushrooms Butternut Squash (or Pumpkin) Ravioli…
  • DH has class, so I'll be hiding indoors pretending I'm not home. We get waaay too many creepers on our street Halloween night.
  • Almost 6' even! My DH said our relationship would have started far earlier on if he'd ever seen me standing. As it was it took awhile before we actually met - eye to eye as it were (glad I was wearing my heels that day!). :-) ETA: I always wondered about the sports thing too...do people insist on asking the shorties if…
  • I have quite a few gym apps, but the ones I use most frequently are: MFP (of course!) Nike+ Running YAYOG Blogilates RoadID Cardiio Pandora :-)
  • My introduction to Anime was Neo Tokyo, a series of 3 anime shorts that I would highly recommend to everyone. The one I love that just got destroyed by the live-action version: Avatar: The Last Airbender  Some of my other favorites include: Full Metal Alchemist Bleach Naruto
  • Foam roller for sure! I have a medium weight as well as a dense one, and typically prefer the denser of the two; it's awesome in a hurt-so-good kind of a way. I also keep the ubiquitous tennis ball in both my work desk and my gear bag. You never know when there's going to be a free minute for getting in a mini…
  • I use an app called Simply Being (guided relaxation app) and have found it to be amazing at helping me relax and release the stress and worries of the day. Of course, I'm usually taking a bubble bath at the same time, so that might have something to do with it as well. I agree with going to yoga as well.…
  • Aha! No I did not; thank you for that!
  • Would you be willing to give a brief rundown of what all is on the spreadsheet, and how to best utilize it? I opened it up last night after a long day at work, and I'm fairly certain part of my brain exploded.
