  • well that didn't work. How bout this
  • Actually - muscle does WEIGH more than fat by mass volume - meaning 1 lb of fat has almost twice the mass of 1 lb of muscle. I'm linking a photo, but not sure if it's gonna work. <a href="http://s148.photobucket.com/albums/s24/lapetiteruse/?action=view&current=FatvsMuscle.jpg" target="_blank"><img…
  • 122??? That seems extremely low. Your fat burning heartrate is usually the 20 point range below the cardio range. More like 145 or so. You may want to research that. and yes - even at a higher heartrate, you will start burning STORED fat after 20 minutes in target heartrate.
  • there are different levels of heart rate - one for burning fat and one for cardio training. To burn fat, you only need to be at a moderate exertion for a longer duration. For cardio, higher exertion, lower duration. Your body only begins to burn stored fat after 20 minutes at your fat burning target heartrate. Hope that…
  • THere's multiple ways of finding your % body fat - all with different variations of accuracy. I use the one the Navy uses. All you need is a tape measure to get your hip, waist and neck measurements. Then there is a grid you use based on your height to determine your % body fat. If anyone is interested, message me with…
  • increase the intensity of your workouts. Maybe you're not eating enough. If it's only 3 lbs left, it will take you longer to lose those 3 lbs than it will to lose the first 7.
  • another thing you can do is increase the intensity of your workouts. YOur body only begins to burn stored fat after 20 minutes in your target cardio heartrate. So a 30 minute workout is really only burning stored fat for 5 minutes or so. The other 25 minutes you're burning the energy from the calories you've consumed that…
  • I am also 5'9. Yes, the target weight can be between 130 - 160 - however, your frame determines better what weight you should be. I find that targeting a specific % body weight is a healthier goal. When I got out of boot camp (I used to be in the Navy) I weighed 165, was 22% body fat and had a four pack of abs. ... of…
  • What size where you when you were your smallest? 6 (at age 15) What size when you were at your biggest? (20 - 2 years ago) Size that you are now? (18) Goal Size? (8/10)
  • I don't think they eat all their exercise calories. They probably only consume calories for a highly active person at their weight. And quite frankly, I dont' agree with eating exercise calories in a 1:1 ratio. It's true you'll need the extra fuel as you increase your activity level, but personally, I think you should only…
  • I agree - it's the amout of exercise they did. Just look at Michael Phelps. He eats 12,000 calories a day and we all know the shape of his body. So imagine working out that much, but only eating a normal 1500- 2000 calorie diet of nutritious food... oh - and you're severely overweight. The weight is going to fall off. I…

  • Oh my goodness.... I just found this site!!! It's very inexpensive automated wake up calls.... I think I'm gonna suscribe for a month and see if that gets me in the habit of waking up for the gym. Check it out!!!! http://www.wakeupline.com/a_wiz_step1.aspx?mw=wup
  • another good thing is to get a weight bar - you can use it to do arm curls, tricep curls and also leg lifts, donkey kicks, and plias (squats with legs wide and toes pointed). Your basic floor exerices with weights will really help you tone.
  • if you wanted to do a cereal - try puffed rice .... it's the healthy version of rice krispies and it's really good with some fruit added in - and extremely low in calories :-D
  • one of my fave snacks is lite laughing cow wedge and these flax and wheat crackers from Trader Joe's. One wedge and 4 crackers is only 95 calories!!!!
  • I would love suggestions for this same thing. I used to be in the Navy so I was used to getting up early or get in serious trouble. Now that I'm a civilian again - I dont' have to be at work til 9 and well, I'm quite comfy in my bed til 8!! lol Setting the alarm earlier doesn't do it for me - I just hit snooze for two…
  • ... and I officially lost 2.5 lbs!!!! And I was too busy to even make it to the gym this week. Just by logging my food intake and being more aware of what I'm putting in my body I was able to drop some pounds. I'm so excited!!! Created by MyFitnessPal.com - Online Calorie Counter "Although no one can go back and make a…
  • be sure to make the cookies after you've eaten a meal and have healthy veggie snacks out so when you get the urge to eat cookie dough, you can grab like a carrot, celery stick or jicama instead. Be sure it's something you ENJOY eating - that way you feel like you've treated yourself - but in a healthy way. Good luck!
  • even with fast food places you can choose a salad and get low fat/low cal dressing - either choose an entree salad - or if there isn't one - get the side salad and order a chicken sandwich minus the bun. One creative substitution for bad salad dressing is to just squeeze the juice from a lemon slice and since most places…
  • Stick to tomato based sauces instead of cream based and pick chicken dishes if you want something with a meat. Be sure to eat salad so that your stomach is partially full... good luck!
  • when I say way under, I mean way under. Here is what my tally is for today - and this includes my shake for dinner which I haven't eaten yet, but I already added it in to see my daily total. My food today includes: coffee in the morning. green beans and carrots for breakfast; shrimp louie salad for lunch; laughing cow and…
  • I was wondering if anyone else is finding their calorie intake very low but their protein intake over what MFP suggests. To explain - I'm eating as much low cal low fat high protein foods I can during the day and then instead of eating dinner, I eat a whey protein meal replacement shake that has A LOT of protein (like 18…
  • the rule of thumb is to not eat anything within 3 hours of bedtime. This gives your body the time to burn those calories instead of storing them in sleep.
  • Tomorrow is my official weigh in day, but I peeked this morning - I'm down 1 lb!!! My goal was 1.5 lbs per week, so 1 pound is a great start!!! :-)
  • nevermind - I found it - my virtual model :-)
  • where did you make the graphics of you at your current weight and you at your goal weight?
  • see if there's a high intensity aerobics class listed in the exercise. If not, google how many calories are burned in a typical boot camp class... it's around 600 or more I believe... and create a new entry with your best educated guess
  • LOL if you're into astrology you could always get the animal or sign representing your astrology sign... me personally, I have sunflowers - which respresent my sunshiny personality and a seahorse - which represents my perception of myself as an exotic creature... just make sure whatever you get is representative of…
  • Approximately 50% of women over 25 have decreased thyroid function with no knowledge of it. There are numerous causes - something wrong with your pituitary gland, low iodine (gives you the symptoms while the thryoid hormones are within range), and even more severe conditions. The doctor may prescribe medicine for the t4…
