  • I did one last year and I'm signed up for another one next month :) It's fun and challenging. You need to train well enough to be able to pull your own body weight over obstacles and be able to run at least 12 miles. I didn't do any of the little 5Ks before doing the Tough Mudder, and honestly since I've done the mudder…
  • I just finished my NASM certification. I did my research before deciding to go with NASM and found that it is accepted pretty much everywhere and is a very well respected program. This was my first certification and I didn't have any degrees related to the fitness, so it is doable even without any previous experience or…
  • I'm 5'5" and weigh 134. I wear a size 2-4 and have 19% body fat. Everyone is different, but I'm surprised at how low some of the goal weights are! You might want to set a goal for body fat instead. Good luck!
  • Feel free to add me! I'm 25 and log daily with an open diary. I usually eat between 1300-1600 per day :)
  • I've tried a few of them, and none of them are all that great. I love Allmax Isoflex...all the flavors rock! It is low in carbs, sugar and sodium. Only 110-120 cals per scoop and about 27 grams protein. For the money I would go with a different brand that tastes good and has similar nutrition.
  • I just finished my first one last weekend! I'm already signed up for another one in april ;) You will love it! Do weight training and running for sure, that's mostly what I did and didn't have a problem throughout the course. Make sure you get a team together, it's super fun with friends/family! Good luck!
  • Congrats! I did it in Austin too! Loved it! The artic enema was almost the worst for me too, I didn't realize it was that obstacle until I got in the water. My body went into shock and I couldn't breathe for a few min. I also got shocked pretty bad on the first electroshock therapy. I have a huge bruise on my calf and I'm…
  • Chicken, lean ground turkey/beef, lean pork, shrimp, cottage cheese, egg whites, greek yogurt, protein bars, and when protein.
  • Very interesting. Do you know about sugar alcohol? Some of the foods I buy have claims that it only has * amount of net carbs, but when you look at the nutition info, some of them have gotten their number from just subtracting fiber, and some subtract fiber and sugar alcohol. Since I am so close to my goal and only have a…
  • It looks like you are pretty close to your goal, so you probably won't be losing as fast as others at a higher weight. Also, are you sure you are getting an accurate reading from the caliper? I am also 5'5" and I weigh 7-10 lbs more than you do, but my body fat is 20%. I used some fancy scale thing from a dr's office. It's…
  • I've used many different protein powders and flavors and I liked all of them. Body Fortress is good, cheap, and can be found at places like Target and Walmart. I also like the brand Allmax, their Isoflex Isolates are very good. As far as eating healthy on a regular basis, it all comes down to organization and planning.…
  • I agree, take out the yogurt and the lunch meat. The yogurt is full of sugar and lunch meat is very high in sodium. Instead opt for plain greek yogurt and add in your own fresh fruit. It's much lower in sugar and a lot higher in protein. Also, if you are a wrap/sandwhich kind cook a whole turkey or chicken breast in the…
  • Do you have before summer/after summer pics? Maybe you should let us be the judge. I thought the same thing too. I'm a teacher and I actually gained a few pounds over the summer, but when I went back to my first conference a few days ago everyone was telling me how great I looked and that it looked like I had lost more…

  • I'm signed up for the one in Austin in October...less than 2 months! I have been doing a lot of strength training and I can currently run 8 miles. The one thing I'm trying to focus on now is running hills outside or on a incline on the tredmill. I'm not too worried about the distance of the race since there will be many…
  • Yes! I do it all the time! It's a complete waste of time to go home, shower, and then go back out to run errands. I EARNED that sweat!
  • Bump...can anyone offer advice?
  • The shakes and bars are pretty high in sugar and sodium. Just eat right and be active!
  • I finished NROLFW about a month ago, but I still squat and deadlift on a regular basis. I am 5'5" and weigh 135 lbs. Deadlift: 145lbs; 3 sets of 8 Squat: 190lbs; 3 sets of 8 --- the other day I did do 1 set of 3 reps at 225 lbs!!!
  • Exactly! Although 1700 calories is not that high. My goal is 1800 calories BEFORE exercise and I'm a 5'5" female at 135 lbs. And I'm still making progress :) Back to the original post. You need to eat more whole foods such as fresh fruits and veggies, lean protein, and complex carbs. Prepackaged stuff is convenient but…
  • The best way is to get a heart rate monitor. Every person, trainer, and workout is different and the best way to get an accurate reading is from a heart rate monitor. I have had a Polar FT4 for over a year now and I love it. It's fairly inexpensive and from what I've read, Polar is one of the best brands.
  • That shake is awesome! Google Jaime Eason's protein bar recipes. She has a lot of good ones, my favorite is her cinnamon swirl protein bars (my husband thinks they taste like his mom's homemade coffee cake) and the chocolate protein bars. Here are a few others that I like: Banana Chocolate Protein Muffins Ingredients: •1…

  • I agree, if you aren't already doing weight training I would add that. Also, head over to the group Eat more to weigh less. This was very helpful for me. I am the same height as you and I was stuck at the same weight for almost 5 months, then I started eating more (1800 cals a day) and I'm starting to see some drops on the…
  • Thanks everyone, I was thinking about doing body weight exercises, it's just going to be a little different from my normal routine! A mix up will be good, though. I will enjoy my vacation, but I still want to be active :)
  • Yes! I was looking for a way to make some low sodium tortillas!
