Whey Protein

Hi, I am a yo yo dieter and recently lost 80 lbs and gained most of it back so here we go again. I have 12 children, 8 are adopted and have varying degrees of special needs... FAS, SBS, Epilepsy, CP, blindness, tube fed, 1/2 a heart, etc etc etc... Since school started back 8/6 I have committed to going back to the gym a minimum of 5 days a week (cardio & I lift heavy weights)... so far so good. I am EXTREMELY busy... What I used to do was run through the drive thru sometimes twice a day (shocking I gained the weight back, I know.) So, now I am not, but I am finding it hard to find the time to eat right, so I am just not eating. Some days I will only eat 400 calories or so. Soooo, today I lifted heavy and (for the first time ever) bought a Body Fortress Super Advanced Whey Protein drink and I liked it! I am just wondering what peoples opinions are on protein drinks and what your favorites are... Preferably ones with lower carbs, sugar etc. Thanks! Jenna

I've used many different protein powders and flavors and I liked all of them. Body Fortress is good, cheap, and can be found at places like Target and Walmart. I also like the brand Allmax, their Isoflex Isolates are very good.
As far as eating healthy on a regular basis, it all comes down to organization and planning. Since you have 12 children, some who have special needs, I'm guessing you aren't new to organization! Plan meals in advance and get everything you need at the grocery store so you aren't going back constantly. Also, pay attention to the ads...when lean meats and other things you use are on sale, stock up! Also, what has saved me in the past is taking a day and preparing meals and then putting them in the freezer so that on a day where I don't have time to stop at the store or cook anything all I have to do is reach in the freezer and put it in the crockpot or oven. Always keep some healthy snacks on hand as well; such as cottage cheese, hard boiled eggs, protein bars, fresh fruit and veggies, hummus, etc. Hope that helps!0 -
My current favorite, though pricey: Optimum Turno Chocolate Whey. Mmm. I use it on Protein shakes and also a recipe I snagged from Youtubes LeanBodyLifestyle.
Shake:
1 Scoop Optimum Turbo Chocolate Whey
1 Cup Almond Molk, unsweetened OR Skim/1% (honestly whatever is in my fridge).
1/2 Previously frozen banana
7-8 Ice-Cubes.
So good.
Peanut Butter Protein Balls
(my take on LeanBodyLifeStyles with ingredients I had).
What I do (In quarter it, his in full vs my variation)
1/3 Cup Peanut Butter, Adams (His is 1 Cup Peanut Butter)
1 Scoop Turbo Chocolate Protein Powder(His 4 Scoops of Protein Powder)
1TB Organic Honey (He uses Stevia, I can't find that)
1-2 TB Shredded Sweetened Coconut(He uses Cocoa Powder)
1 tsp Maple Extract (he uses vanilla, I had none. *tear* lol)
Mix, roll into balls and freeze unt desired temp. I keep mine personally in the freezer in a container. I use my food scale and weigh out portions of 20g per ball. Averages 87 cals, and 5g protein.0 -
Wow! Thanks for all the awesome suggestions!0

The thing I hate most about restaurants is how long it takes them to cook my food. Badly.0
