  • Most likely water retention. If you consume more sodium that you typically do, your body will hold onto extra water. For me this happens with even a small increase in sodium intake because I typically consumer very little sodium. I wouldn't fret over it too much, just stick with it and the weight will come off.
  • Are you logging everything that you consume? Watch the serving size, you may be consuming more calories than you think you are. Do you have an exercise routine? Just don't give up and stick with it. I have gone through periods where I only lose 2 pounds in a month, just keep logging.
  • I go to the gym 5 days a week and burn about 900 or so calories with each visit, I almost never eat them back. I have my MFP Settings for sedentary which gives me about 1500 calories a day. Sometimes on the weekend I will eat a portion of my exercise calories back but I do not make a habit of it.
  • I think it is personal preference. I prefer the treadmill and find I burn more on that than on an elliptical. Typically 40 minutes on the treadmill at 4.5 mph and a 15% incline is about 750 calories for me. It seems like the key to burning more on the treadmill is increasing the incline. You can compare calories burned by…
  • Muscle does not weight more than fat, this is like saying a pound of features weighs more than a pound of stone. Muscle is more dense than fat! On the other topic, I typically weigh first thing in the morning before eating anything. Your weight will fluctuate throughout the day so the main thing is to be consistent with…
  • Excellent job and congratulation!
  • Age: 38 Heaviest: 387 Current: 198 Goal: 175 So far my journey has taken two years and I am now starting to build some muscle and finding that the scale has been stuck in the same place for the last month. Trying not to get discouraged though.
  • I only have two complaints about losing weight. First it gets expensive on a couple of different levels, buying new clothes every 6 weeks or so and buying healthier foods ...... I totally understand why people end up overweight in this country and part of it is because it is very expensive to eat in a healthy way. My…
  • I tend to go up and down between 900 and 1300 calories a day and have lost about 165lbs or so in about 17 months, it is totally possible to eat less than 1200 and not go into starvation mode. Perhaps eating less that 1200 a day for long stretches will do it though.
  • We do 3% of annual salary for hourly and 6% for salaried plus a minimum of 3%(of annual salary) profit sharing on December 31st, which is deposited into each persons 401k accounts
  • Last year at this time the waist on my jeans were 54 and tight at that, I just bought my first pair of 36 waist and they seem a little loose.
  • I totally understand how you feel. Sometimes I don't feel like I haven't changed much at all. Maybe because I still have a ways to go ..... dunno. I do have say that I feel better but as for how thing looks, I don't have any before pics so I have nothing to compare it to. I think someone said it best when they said we are…
  • I have lost over 140 in 13 months. I think I have done quite well.
  • I started out at 389 a year ago and I am now down to 258 and I feel great about it. Still more to lose, I want to get to about 160.
  • I drink pots of coffee every day, why give it up? The coffee itself doesn't really have calories in it, it is typically everything you add to it. Of course there is a downside to drinking both a lot of water and a lot of coffee ....... you will find yourself in the bathroom a lot.
  • I broke down and bought new clothes because they were all so big on me. I waited until I had lost about 80 pounds but even now the new clothes are getting too big. It is getting expensive to keep buying new clothes so every now and then I buy a new pair of pants or two.
  • Thanks, I will just use a percentage of what the HRM tells me.
  • My jeans have gone from a 54 waist to a 42 waist. I would like to get down to a 32 if I can.
  • Sometimes I will hop on the scale during the week but I usually do it once a week on the same day and time. I think this gives you the read of how things are going. If I check everyday I would just drive myself insane because my body weight is all over the place each day. When I weigh myself each week I just look for some…
  • I will weigh sporadically during the week but only record my weight first thing on Saturday mornings.
  • Just give it a little time. You can do it! The key is to track everything you put in your mouth. You dont have to exercise as long as your intake is less than what you burn.
  • you are scrambling to find dress pants to fit you because you don't wear them very often and instead of them being too small now they are way too big.
  • Once I hit my goal I am planning a trip to Australia. I have always wanted to go but wouldnt spend the money.
  • For me, I refused to by the next size pants. I just decided that was it. I have tried in the past to lose weight and never had great luck but with MFP I am finding it easy. It is a long process tho
  • Lima beans Lamb fries & rocky mountain oysters (just thinking of these makes me want to puke) liver anchovies escargot
  • i drink a lot of coffee, so much that it is probably easier to count pots instead of cups. Coffee itself, calorie wise, is not bad for you but everything people add to it adds to the calories. One cup of black coffee has something like 1 calorie in it. try to slowly cut back on sugar or go to something like splenda until…
  • I started at 389 and have been using MFP for about a month. I have lost 23 pounds so far. I think this is one is the easier ways to lose weight, I don't really feel like I am dieting. I have been sticking to around 1400 calories a day and things have been going well. I have been staying away from processed foods and it is…
  • Here is a good article regarding water. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/water/NU00283
  • Those are some great tips. I am big fruit eater so I tend to have a couple bananas for breakfast and a couple apple or other kind of fruit for lunch. for snacks I usually have fruit too. The fruit tends to help keep my calorie count down during the day and leaves me around 800 to 1,000 for dinner. So far it hasn't been as…
